I spent a lot of time at both those places. Lawrence has better bars.

Sometimes I wonder just how delusional we are about UConn.

Agreed.

Lawrence and I'll add Chapel Hill are two of the great college towns out there. I'm all for wearing National Flag Blue glasses, but at some point it because theatre of the absurd.

Uconn not even referenced..ouch
Any insight into why we completely fell off his radar? Seems before season we had a good shot and we were in the AAC & he talks Memphis so doubt it's the conference. The bad year we had was not a big surprise and we have a good class coming so a little curious what changed.....maybe he got the word we won't pay.

As someone who went to school at KU for three years, it's not remotely boring. It's a really attractive campus set on a hill, in a town of what is now over 80,000 people. It's an hour from KC and Lawrence has a great downtown with tons of bars and live music venues. Bands from colleges all over the Midwest travel through there. Does Storrs have anything like this? Live Music - Unmistakably Lawrence
Pearl Jam played for free on the hill during their Ten tour in 1992 when I was in Law School.

Then there's Allen Field House and the fanbase. I had season tickets the first season at Gampel, it's not close. Allen Field House is incredible. Every game is packed, no matter who they play and it is insanely loud. Just go look at the videos on YouTube.
Sorry. I meant the state as a whole, not Lawrence. But I'm not super high on the fun in the whole of CT, or Storrs. Lawrence vs. Storrs is, sadly, a no brainer in terms of scene.

This is not popular on this site but we do not have the pull we had. Aac, missing the tourney, ollie, etc. We where on the path to blue blood and we are a so so mid major

Im wondering the same thing. Maybe it was a mutual decision? But I dont know why the staff would stop recruiting a top 15 player unless there were suspicious things going on. It seems like we were in the lead for a while.

The only time UConn was in “the lead” was when Precious was disinterested in his recruitment and when people were lazy with giving the St. Benedict’s/New Heights connections more merit than they were worth.

One of the dumber posts I've seen here in a long time... Hurley would not come here if we were a so so mid major.

This is a knee jerk reaction to our major sports sucking the last few years. Mid-majors do not have the athletic budget that UConn has. The ultimate product may be mid-majorish in ability but that won't last long.

Storrs CT sucks in general for college kids and partying nowadays. Fairfield, Quinnipiac, and any New Haven school have better nightlife. Once you go out of New England where small towns and cities are built around the flagship universities the nightlife is better too.

This is the most ludicrous comment I've ever seen on here.

Just because we're rebuilding, doesn't mean we lose our titles from 1999, 2004, 2011 and 2014...the most by any school in the past 20 years.

It also doesn't mean that we lose the 6 active NBA players, 13 NBA lottery picks, or 38 all-time NBA players amounting to $1B+ in combined earnings. Oh, and it also doesn't take away the fact that one of these players is the best 3-pt shooter in NBA history.

If the UConn program is a mid-major, what on earth does that make Gonzaga? Hell, what does that make Kansas or Michigan State? The B1G hasn't won a title in the 21st century. We have 3.

We're not a so-so mid-major sorry, the AAC is an issue but we & others still get recruits. We are down but we can still have a good future with right coach in AAC equal or better to that of current BE teams and compete with P5. My point was Precious knew all this 5 months ago so only thing different is not making tourney.

Why the smiley face? You also think we're a so so mid-major?
such an instigator ;)it was a smiley of pride. all of this is arbitrary verbiage anyway. mid-major, high major, power 5 blah blah we are an elite basketball program bottom line. the day we are back in the rankings playing meaningful games it will be scooped up by the media and like we never left. they couldn’t get enough of us during that 2016 run right up to kansas.

Everyone can pile on 99 all they want, but sometimes perception is reality. There are a plethora of ways that an opposing coach could frame our program as a mid major. And what kind of kid doesn't want to hear "UConn? You're too good for them"

We won't be pulling in top 10 kids again until we give them a reason to come here.

I don't want to speak for @husky99, but this is the perception in recruiting circles/ AAU and what other coaches are telling kids we are, and it has definitely worked against us. Winning cures all, but it will take some time to build it back up.

Hurley has been good about identifying gettable talent, though I think even he was surprised how much of a hit the brand took over the last 4 years. He will not be outworked though. He will get it back.

Why wouldn't you go to UConn?

-They play in conference that has half the exposure that we do.
-They've had a losing record the last two years
-Their athletic department is in big trouble right now, $40 million deficit
-They're in cow country.
-Here, you play Duke, UNC (fill in power programs)

I mean come on guys. Honestly.

Not piling on, we all know it's been bad and we have to prove we can win again but history does count and no reason UConn & AAC should be referred to as mid-major, especially by us. Leave that to ESPN phonies.

Precious mentioned Memphis so unless they got a P5 invite are in AAC.

People are piling on because it is an idiotic comment. We're coming off our worst stretch in 40 years and our new coach managed to get a borderline 5 star power forward, the #10 shooting guard in the country, and the #13 combo guard in the country.

So so mid-majors don't ever do this.
