Possible UConn 2021 Recruits

You are definitely backsliding. "Appropriate" offers will be determined by the UCONN regardless of your pleadings. UCONN is not as concerned about the size of the fish coming into the pond because it has the largest pond. The largest pond allows for the most growth. Never measure you fish until after they have actually entered a pond and had a chance to grow.

OK..............I give up.............the Gods have spoken.........

I made that point in response to the claim that it made no sense for Boston to delay announcing where she will play. The same dynamic would exist (especially this year) whether her choice were UConn or Notre Dame.
Not sure all this talk about committing matters. While I would love to see Boston (and others) commit, some seem to be reading into every minor detail. Likely a result of the "slow season." My take is that if you were about 17, why wouldn't you wait and take in the visits and learn everything possible regarding the Top D1 landscape.

I agree with you.............for me these players have every right to deal with their recruiting as they see fit..........(my daughter is going through the process at a lesser level right now).........my contention which is often criticized by a certain BY member, is that since there are no sure things among these great players why not offer an additional high quality recruit or two so that you are not left in the lurch if your original choices go elsewhere...........there's a big difference between that strategy and the Louisville strategy which is to offer virtually every top 35 player and see what sticks........

I asked these questions last week but they went unanswered. Noting that several of the Boneyard cognoscenti have visited this site recently and validating the observation that I am annoyingly stubborn and persistent, I will query again:

What constitutes an offer? Is there a written document or is it merely the head coach saying to the recruit, "We're offering you a scholarship to play basketball here." If it's the latter, then I can understand the uncertainty regarding whether Brunelle was offered a scholarship to UConn. But if it's the former, then there's a paper trail.

How is an offer withdrawn? Verbally? In writing?

Regards some of the high-profile players on the U17 team, is there precedence for this international bonding process leading to core members choosing the same college?

Can a player under the age of 18 commit to a school without the blessing/signature of her parent(s)?
My apologies. I was on vacation last week on One Happy Island.

Q: What constitutes an offer?
A: A scholarship offer can take the format of phone call (least formal), face to face conversation, or at the most a formal letter on Official School stationery.
Regardless of format, an offer is not legally binding to either party until the signing of a National Letter of Intent for all NCAA institutions with the exception of the Ivy League Schools and the Service Academies.
Typically an offer covers tuition, room & board, & meals and is renewable each years at the schools discretion. There has been much recent discussion about stipends and some conferences have looked into making scholarships for more than 1 years but generally stipend-less and 1 year renewable are the NCAA norm.

Q:How is an offer withdrawn? Verbally? In writing?
The format of the outbound offer determines how the offer can be withdrawn.
If the school bothered to send a letter (not sure if by practice or by law) it must send a letter withdrawing the offer. A couple of notable cases in litigation involving football players who received offer letters and the school did not send a letter withdrawing the offer.
Q: Is there precedence for this international bonding process leading to core members choosing the same college?
A: Yes. In 2010 Breanna Stewart, Morgan Tuck, Kaleena Mosqeuda-Lewis
played on the same USA basketball team U17? in France? BTW Jewell Loyd was on that team also so let's consider her the one that got away.

Q: Can a player under the age of 18 commit to a school without the blessing/signature of her parent(s)?
A: I don't know. The general practice is for the parents to sign a NLI. Both of my girls were 18 when I signed with them.

Have to admit, the tete-a-tete between Charlie and Coco always is entertaining and definitely has emerged as a Boneyard guilty pleasure of mine. Don't stop! :)
Personally I find it boring and repetitive.
I'd prefer threads like this add at least a little something new to the likelihood of a specific recruits thinking or choices.
Both of you have your opinions or perceptions which has been well stated many, many times.
I open threads like this hoping something new and interesting has occurred.
I realize it's the off season, as well as many are very anxious or at least anticipatory about the most important, needed recruits thinking and / or decision process but often this sounds like beating a dead horse.
Sorry as I don't mean to be critical just would like to learn something!

I enthusiastically agree with 50% of your critique...........;)

New name on the menu, 6-2 center Jillian Hollingshead, Holy Innocents high school in Georgia. Info on her in the next set of posts.

.-.
From the recent Summer Slam event where Sonia Citron played and where I'm betting UConn was present.

Jillian Hollingshead, 6-4, power forward, Lady Rebels Platinum (Marietta, Georgia)

Hollingshead is one of the top prospects of the 2021 class in the Deep South. Now filling out and more strongly built, she remains light on her feet yet taking contact well. She can finish with either hand at the rim but also has a nice face-up stroke.

Another from the Summer Slam event:

2021 6-4 C Jill Hollingshead (Holy Innocents’) responded in a big way on Day 2. After opening the tournament by floating around the three-point line, Hollingshead got in the paint and battled with Natalija Marshall. She tallied 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 blocks. Hollingshead’s length gave the 6-foot-5 Marshall and the rest of Exodus some issues when getting in the paint. Hollingshead is still learning her craft and identifying mismatches will make her an even tougher cover once she matures.

the 2021 class appears to have some really dominant and mobile 6'3"+ players including Adams, DeBerry, Hollingshead, R Marshall and Vonleh among others

She's growing with every post. By the time she gets to UConn she'll be 6-10.

yes I noticed those numbers jumping around a whole lot...........not sure she would be pleased about reaching 6'10", scholarship or no scholarship............as I sadly discovered in the past few years, the majority of girls tend to grow slowly once their in high school............you get what you get...........

Dan Olsen tweet and write-up on UConn player of interest Jillian Hollingshead:

GHSAA State Tourney-March 2018: Explosively athletic front court prospect with off-the-charts potential; quick in the paint, rebounds and handles in uptempo game; emerging offensive arsenal to the arc.

adidas Nationals-July 2018:
Ultra-athletic stretch-4 rebounds and handles in uptempo game; quick-leaper, cleans glass, disruptive defender, shot blocking presence; agile in uptempo, scores in transition game; face up game to the arc.

Fifteen minute package of Azzi Fudd freshmen highlights:

when it comes to Fudd, she's already shown she's the most talented high school player in the country so just wake me up when she's decided she's going to UConn............

Some thoughts on the Azzi video:

1. I'm a blur in the stands in one of the games. :)

2. I'd pay just to watch her shoot in warm-ups. The form and results are uncanny.

3. She is excellent with her left hand. Note the frequent use of it for scoop shots.

4. Prediction 1: She will be a 50-40-90 shooter.

5. Prediction 2: If she plays 4 full years, she will surpass 300 made treys. Something close to 400 is not out of the question.

6. For those who are interested, #15 on the opposing team at about 1:20 and 14:00 to 14:20 is Ashley Owusu, the Paul VI point guard who has committed to Maryland and is a top-5 player in 2019. She has an unusual build for a PG, but she is strong, aggressive, and skilled.

7. I'm looking forward to seeing Azzi at SJC again this season. She's ridiculously good, especially for her age.

I don't doubt your predictions for a minute..............it's going to be absolutely wonderful if she goes and does all that at UConn................now if she ends up somewhere else I'll give her props but will shake my head every time I see her play in the wrong uniform.............the one that got away..........

Very impressive in this video collage:

Jillian's game even in this very short clip resembles Vicki Baugh's game. Hopefully Jillian will have a much healthier career and become the truth that Vicki was projected to become.

The height of a center but the build of a lean wing. Fluid, athletic body. Really nice form on those jumpers too. Looks skilled and special.
