OTish Cults in Connecticut

I was in North Carolina years ago and asked someone where I could get a grinder. I drove ten miles to find out they sent me to a hardware store.

There was a "New Haven Style Pizza" place in DC that had various CT named pizzas ("The Merritt Parkway" etc). They had a pizza called "The Grinder" that, I kid you not, was meatballs, fried chicken (think: Chicken Parm Grinder), marinara, mozz.

What this place lacked in authenticity, it more than made up for in its taste resembling Dominos.

Well help my time! That's all gooberd up! I reckon some Yankee was fixin' to get their switch.

Where were all the whale fans when, you know, there was actually a team to be a fan of?

...and then he became August_West...

"Speakth not against the Whalers."

Rookie mistake Auggy.

I was born in Tampa. I always found it funny that the farther north you go in Florida, the farther south you got.
Imagine what it's like in a real southern state..

This was actually a reference to something I've noticed that I find amusing:

People in Georgia love chiding people from NC as not being southern, especially in relation to UNC not being a southern school (the worst thing you can be in Georgia is a "basketball school") and it POs the NC people so much!

Without a doubt the biggest omission from the tweet is the "'I hate CT and can't wait to move away' but I've been saying that for a decade and still haven't moved" crowd.

Also, the "New Haven really isn't that bad of a city" crowd.

I believe @tcf15 is the true prophet.

Let the sectarianism and decades of war commence!

Grinder is used almost exclusively in the New Haven to Springfield corridor for a Sub.

If it's got meatballs and/or sausage, tomato sauce and cheese, it's a grinder.
If it's got cold cuts (even if heated up) it's a sub.

"Tax-achusetts"

I can go 2 miles to the CT line and cross over to Suffield CT and be very happy I'm in Feeding Hills;):D

Still depends from where though. Cold cut grinder, Italian grinder etc etc still the majority where I lived and still in many of the offices I travel to in CT.

Towns are a cult here. I’ve lived in 5 of the six New England states and nowhere is your town a bigger cult than Connecticut. I was in Spain one time and a local on a tour asked where people were from and a woman from Connecticut answered West Hartford, as if a Parisian should know where or what the hell that was. Not West Hartford Connecticut. Just West Hartford.

Of course West Hartford is its own cult.

“The Center” or as they try and push it now, downtown West Hartford.

DMB

Young males driving tuned Civics or WRX’s. Although that’s probably everywhere.

Girl cult: Northface fleece, Ugg boots, leggings uniform.

And San Francisco and Greenwich Village. Wait ... I think that's Grindr. Never mind.
I'm surprised you haven't taken flak from any of the boards snowflakes yet.
Where's the stain guy when you need some healthy projection of virtue?

There used to be a popular clothing and shoe place in West Hartford and they made t shirts which had the name of the store. Underneath the name it said “London Paris Rome West Hartford”.
