Pitino is so sleazy that he undoubtedly has a few big donors/admin in his back pocket with corresponding dirt implicating them. He's gotten away with so much that I can somehow envision him surviving anything. Realistically I think he uses the dirt he has on others as hush motivation for a golden parachute with $ and minimizing legacy staining implications.
