OT: Jay Wright/Knicks

Jay Wright is one of the few great things remaining in college basketball. He’s exactly where he should be, hoping he stays there for life.

Think Melo left when he was a little kid and same with Drummond.

Just a real anamoly that in the basketball "mecca" there aren't more players .

Yankees run in the late 90's, uh.....how about the Mantle days, Reggie, etc. - goodness you've got to have a better understanding of history.

NYC has historically been much more of a baseball town - christ there's still folks that piss about the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn for LA in '57.

The reason there's a buzz when the knicks are good is that it's a rare occurrence - the city was as, if not more "electric" when the Rangers made their run to the cup in 1994 as when the Knicks were in the finals.

That said KP is a stud. Really sucks about the ACL.

I used to be huge Knicks fan growing up with the Ewing, Oakley, Starks teams, but at this point I've just been so apathetic for years, even the injury didn't bother me as much as I would have thought.

Well yeah, and Alabama and Vanderbilt both play football in the SEC. What's your point?

No one gives a rip about the Yankees or Mets when they're bad. Their stadiums are graveyards (even going back to the late 60s with the Yanks) and their TV ratings go in the tank. The Knicks fanbase is always there, despite being one of the five-worst franchises in American sports the last 15 years. If you think The Boneyard and the Hurley thread was nuts, check out the Knicks RealGM board.

TV ratings don't tell the whole story. Baseball is running unopposed all summer while the NBA contends with the NFL, college hoops, college football, hockey and TV's Fall/Winter runs.

When the Yankees are bad they still average more fans than the Knicks do when they sell out. Even the Mets have higher attendance than the Knicks - only once in the last 30 years has Met attendance dropped to under 19K a game. Brooklyn, which is a whole other city within the city, is so crazy for baseball that the Coney Island Cyclones, the Mets rookie league team, frequently sell out. When they're winning, all sports in NY seem like they're the center of the storm.

One good thing about the Knicks job now is that they have been so bad for so long that if you can just get them back to respectability you will be the toast of NYC. The bar has been lowered so far it's now doable.
