Jay Wright is one of the few great things remaining in college basketball. He’s exactly where he should be, hoping he stays there for life.
Carmelo is from there. Andre was born there but I think he grew up in CT. I generally agree though that you would think there would be more stars from such a large population.
Spoken like someone who has never lived in the city. NYC has always been the hoops mecca despite the Knicks being mismanaged for decades. Huge high school hoops scene, MSG, the Rucker, The GOAT, Joe Hammond, Lou Alcindor, PeeWee Kirkland, Connie Hawkins, Dr. J etc.
The Knicks are still the hottest ticket despite being horrendously run for so many years, when there is a good Knicks team there is a buzz like no other. The Yankees are the most historic team in sports and had an amazing run in the late 90's but that doesn't make it a baseball town. Football is hugely popular throughout the country, NYC is one of the places it's least popular in.
I misunderstood.I'm thinking this is tongue and cheek, or I just wasn't clear. I meant from NYC.
I misunderstood.
They're in the same conference. That said, there's a huge difference between leaving Butler and leaving Nova. Not that Nova has the cache of Duke or Kentucky, but they're certainly more of a draw than Butler

It'd be nice to have Villanova be stuck at 3 titles for a while.
When the Yankees are bad they still average more fans than the Knicks do when they sell out. Even the Mets have higher attendance than the Knicks - only once in the last 30 years has Met attendance dropped to under 19K a game. Brooklyn, which is a whole other city within the city, is so crazy for baseball that the Coney Island Cyclones, the Mets rookie league team, frequently sell out. When they're winning, all sports in NY seem like they're the center of the storm.100%. It's about more than the Knicks.
No one gives a rip about the Yankees or Mets when they're bad. Their stadiums are graveyards (even going back to the late 60s with the Yanks) and their TV ratings go in the tank. The Knicks fanbase is always there, despite being one of the five-worst franchises in American sports the last 15 years. If you think The Boneyard and the Hurley thread was nuts, check out the Knicks RealGM board.
TV ratings don't tell the whole story. Baseball is running unopposed all summer while the NBA contends with the NFL, college hoops, college football, hockey and TV's Fall/Winter runs.
For the rest of your life. Not 365 days a year; obviously there'd be the Montauk and Malibu houses, the Tuscan villa, and that little compound in the south of France. But most of the year you'd have to live in Manhattan.
So?
