OT: Giants

The change to Geno Smith?

Isn't Geno Smith the primary reason we have our lone victory against WVU? IIRC, he fumbled about three times along the way to five turnovers in their OT defeat at Rentschler in 2010. Yeah, he's the answer for the Giants, all right.

Things have gone steadily downhill since Wellington Mara died. He's rolling in his grave watching this cluster F.

Long time Giants fan who loves Eli, and he is not at fault for having no protection, running game, or receivers who don’t drop the ball but he does have a problem. One, a California Redwood has more mobility. Two, 1 out of 3 short screen passes is off the mark. True he throws a good long ball. True he’s as class an act as there is. Lastly he is old. Geno Smith is no answer but the season is over and it makes no sense to run Eli out there because of an inane record that means little. Find out if Webb is anything before the draft. That’s key to knowing who to draft. That said, the coach and GM need to go bye bye.

Benching Eli for Geno is a slap in the face, and saying it's about evaluating the future is even worse. You want to bench Eli and see what you have in Webb, sure. But if Webb isn't ready yet you play Eli 2 more weeks and then put Webb in.

And I won't even get in to the idea of letting McAdoo and Reese make this kind of decision when they're out the door after this season

McAdoo and Reese aren't fans of Eli.

McAdoo took veiled shots at him going back to the draft or even earlier. And the fact that Reese didn't address the line at all just proves that he thought it was Eli who needed to improve, not the line.

The only way they can both save their jobs are if they win 4 of 5 in a row with McAdoo being able to say "See - this is what happens when I get the kind of QB I want, keep me! I know what I'm doing!"

That's why he's going with Geno first - If Geno somehow finds a way to rattle off 2-3 wins there is no way in hell McAdoo is putting Webb in there - he's just trying to save his job. Putting Webb in there now is the best move for the organization - but I think McAdoo and Reese both know they're gone unless they go on some crazy winning streak - so future be damned.

I'm sure Eli knew at some point Webb was going to be tried out, but to pull him with 5 to go for Geno Smith was an insult of epic proportions.

The change to Geno Smith?
He’s not the answer either but again why put Eli through this torture just to keep a streak alive with no line , wideouts, running game, so I can agree with the decision

The only thing that would make this sadder--and me madder--is if the Giants actually do rattle off four or five more wins and screw themselves out of prime draft position.

I want McHandley and Reese to suffer through the end.

Philadelphia 128 Giants -6
McAdoofus makes Handley look like a serious coach and person but yes I agree. Pain and suffering for McAdoofus and Reese.

This is strictly personal. McAdoofus can't stand Eli and is a coward so he wants to inflict pain on Eli while also trying to pass off all his failures onto Eli. He's just dumb enough to think his plan would work.

The decision people are upset with is going to Geno. If you're going to take out Eli, put the kid in with potential.

Maybe I'm playing Devil's Advocate, but I'd be tempted to say, "Maybe we should see how this player looks when he's NOT on the Jets."
That might have been a valid point in a season where the Giants had at least an average OL, running back, and wide receivers. The OL can't protect, they can't run the ball, and have you seen their WR depth chart?

So basically, what I'm saying is he's back on the Jets.

So even if Geno plays great for 5 games, then what?

You have Eli's cap hit if he's cut, then you have Davis Webb on a contract and the possibility of drafting a big name QB in the 1st round.

You're going to tell me they would resign Geno? He's a free agent. He's not coming back.

It's a pointless move.

Eli should have started until Webb was ready. Benching him in lieu of Geno is idiotic.

There were opportunities in recent games to let Eli sit in the second half. Why didn't they do that?

The insane untapped potential of Giants backup and former Jets QB Geno Smith
And while you’re gorging yourself with turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes this Thanksgiving weekend, chew on this for a bit:

Geno Smith’s passer rating in his final seven Jets games was superior to Eli Manning’s best year.

And that there is an active NFL quarterback who was an early second-round pick who:

  • Uplifted his team to an 8-8 record in his first season starting on a team predicted to win four games or fewer.
  • Won at least half of those games in dramatic fashion by leading game-winning drives.
  • Began the next year 1-7 before being benched by his coach.
  • Bounced back at end of same year, and displayed great growth.

Which QB would you pick? If you chose Geno Smith — you would be absolutely correct.

But if you chose Drew Brees, you would also be correct. The young careers of Smith and Brees are so similar they could pass for twins.

This is like the future Boneyard post where someone tries to say we are better off with Kisunas than Shittu because he won’t leave after one year.

Lets go Raiders run up the score please get Mcadoo out of here he shouldn't even make the trip back and Jerry Reese is just as bad.
Reese is worse. He was handed a SB winning roster by Acorsi and ran into the ground. Mcadoo will be forgotten memory soon, recovering from Reese's roster construction will take years to fix.

I've been skeptical that they fire McAdoo before the season ends. But with a home game next week, they may not want him to show his face in front of the home crowd. Maybe they should wait a week and let him hear 3 hours of insults and criticism next week and then let him go

Make him suffer til the end.

Make him witness the Eagles and Cowboys as road games.

Make him stand up after Geno Smith goes 11-25 with 3 INTs and answer questions.

Do not do him the favor of firing him.

ESPN is reporting that Eli is “ready to move on” from the Giants and that McAdoo is committed to having Geno start and finish the game today barring injury.

Unreal.

I hope this is the most colossal ass whooping the Giants have ever taken in history.
