They lost twice to Notre Dame this year, but got their revenge - they owned the second half and won the Big East Tournament. And this is what they consider a down year.

Geno's 800th win was a Big East title...figures. He gets to 800 wins in something ludicrous like 930 games.

Arrrrghhh.

I forgot about the game!!!

I was thinking about watching it all day and then forgot.

ND has become quite a rival. I though the women had lost their mojo, so it's nice to see they recovered just in time.

Is the reason they play the BET in Hartford solely based on the fact that they know they will have good attendance there? I don't really follow women's ball but I'd imagine some of these other coaches have said something about why the most dominant team in the conference gets to have the tourney on their 2nd home floor each year. Not like they would lose most years anyway but it seems kind of unfair advantage imo.

I imagine the attendance has got to be the only reason. Where else in the country, aside from Knoxville, could they get anywhere close to 1000 people to pay for tickets to watch women's basketball?

Yeah I don't watch a lot of them but the intriguing ones I do......the fact I heard Geno was beaten 3X in a row by McGraw meant there would be a war out there and I was prepped to watch...they played very tough against the ND thuggettes and deserved the title....congrats to them.....

And congrats to Rebecca Lobo for doing such a good job of not being a "homer" she was a complete a**wipe!!!!

Exactly - they choose tournament cities based on where they will get the best attendance. No different from what they do for Men's tournaments.

I haven't watched many of the women's games this year, but while watching much of the second half, I was impressed that Stephanie Dolson sets better picks than anyone on the men's team. She just seemed to know how to get to just the right spot. She actually reminded me of how well Jake used to do it and how rare it is to see a good screen on the men's team.

As far as the game, nice job, Geno and company!

The game is on ESPN3

Best game of the year for the girls. Notre Dame is a very good team loaded with seniors. UConn's tempo and aggressively denying their passes took them out of their game. It was great coaching job.

Congrats to Geno on his 800th win. Fastest women's coach to that mark.

I think Dolson being glued to the floor when she's tired helps with the screens. Agree that the men only have a notion as to what a screen is used for.

I don't like that money trumps a truly even playing field. This game should have been played in Boston or Pittsburgh, or wherever. I don't think it's right UConn has this kind of advantage considering ND won the damn conference.

Play it NJ somewhere then. The where is less important than the fact it should NOT have been played anywhere in CT. It's just wrong and the women's game is rigged and, therefore, diminished because of it.

Unfortunately, this being real life and all, no one is going to foot the bill to put a tournament in an area where they will not sell enough tickets to cover the costs.

It's not just the women's game, it's the men's game as well. Conference tournaments, especially low-majors, are placed where they will sell tickets.

If it ever came to pass that the Big East could not longer sell at Madison Square Garden, it would move in a flat heartbeat.

The Big East chick tourney is in Hartford because that's where the paying asses find their way into seats. It's been elsewhere - but it came back for a reason.

in the conference uconn women's team has the most fans in attendance each game, and the big east wants to make a little bit of money so they put the tourney where the school with the most attendance ... imagine a big east tourney game in Seton Hall's gym.. a gym that barely got 500 people when uconn went to play them

they were thinking of moving it to Louisville from what i heard last year since the XL contract expired this year but they were charging a little bit too much

Back in the '90s, they did hold it at Seton Hall. (UConn won by about 50.)

It's been held at Rutgers at least four or five times -- I don't think Rutgers won while it was there. I think UConn won several, Nova snuck one and someone else took another. (Rutgers' win came in Hartford, no?)

doty is my favorite player
She is definitely not the player she was before her injuries. She just looks afraid to shoot, even when wide open. I give her credit just for being out there but she looks scared at time. She is also the "hottest" one on the team IMHO.

Notre Dame, Baylor and whoever the other top women's teams are better hope they get their trophy this year because Geno has the #1 and #2 rated players in the country coming in next year. The #1 girl, Breanna Stewart, is talked about as being in the Diana Taurasi/Maya Moore category.

So Geno will have these two girls for the next 4 years, plus Mosqueda-Lewis for 3 more years, plus Dolson and Hartley for 2 more years, plus whoever else he brings in. I wonder how many consecutive wins they'll get to this time?

I'm not sure if it was last night's game or the game before but early in the game Dolson set four picks, one right after the next as she ping-ponged into the lane. After the last pick she rolled to the hoop and Hartley put the ball right into her hands for an easy layup. I was like, I don't see our big men set four good picks in an entire game let alone one play.
