@theDudeofWV@PeteMundo@Iamgrizzly1974 How serious is this UofH talk to the B1G?
The Dude of WV@theDudeofWV3h
@jfournet I think UH submitted paperwork and the B1G agreed to review it.
. Lets go with this for a moment. If the University of Houston is the answer for the B1G, then WTH is the question? To be honest, that would be kind of cool. But Houston is not academically elite. Definitely a decent research school. Otherwise, for the time being, getting Texas is going to be very difficult.University of Houston to the B1G. Okay. Lets go with this for a moment. If the University of Houston is the answer for the B1G, then WTH is the question?
That might be what it says when pen met paper all those years ago, but that is not how it is acting. The actions of the few are self serving, when if it were a true member organization, it would put the greater good ahead of the individual.
Exactly my point. If this new division is to happen, the Power 5 conferences as we know them need to blow themselves up. Duke does not belong with FSU or Virginia Tech, let alone the upper echelon of the elites. I don't mind that there are only a few teams that have a rightful shot at winning the national championship, but at least the second and third levels should be given a fair shot to eventually improve over time. That would make the overall product better. Instead these few institutions are promoting this selfish model that I believe is unsustainable.
Look at the NCAA Basketball tourney. Do you really believe that there are more than 10 (15 in a good year) teams with a shot to win 6 games over 3 weeks? Of course not. But Gonzaga makes the tournament as a 13 seed. They improve. They get to the Sweet 16 a few years later, they improve, get to the Elite 8 a few years after that. Their program is thought highly enough that coaches are tabbed for other jobs. Yet they improve some more to eventually become the best team in the country for a short time. They are now in the discussion (Conversely Arizona is a "have" program. They won the Dance in the late 90's. They had a decent football program. Now they are a footnote)...That is exciting...And would never happen in a D4 world.
As it is being portrayed, the possibility of a 4th division probably removes the last distinction between the innocence of amateur college sports and an NFDL (National Football Developmental League). You know how they say if you have two starting quarterbacks, then you don't have any starting quarterbacks? I think we are about at that point. If you have two feeder systems to the NFL, then you really don't have any, and the popularity of college football in the major markets will plummet. Why pay attention to those getting paid on Saturday, when the guys on Sunday offer a better product? Say hello to the world of Triple A baseball, because that's what it'll end up being.
To be honest, that would be kind of cool. But Houston is not academically elite. Definitely a decent research school. Otherwise, for the time being, getting Texas is going to be very difficult.
The best compliment I ever heard for Houston came from an SEC official. That's pretty good, wouldn't you say?For the sake of discussion ... How does Houston fit the mold of a B1G institution? ... How does the B1G pass on AAU member and public research university Mizzou? ... How does the B1G pass on football brand Florida State (if that rumor is to be believed)? ... How does the B1G pass on UConn a public research university in a region of interest to the B1G and with proximity to NYC and a basketball brand?
University of Houston to the B1G. Okay. Lets go with this for a moment. If the University of Houston is the answer for the B1G, then WTH is the question?
No one mention that we lost to Western Michigan twice.
We were athletically superior. They had the better QB. We've done relatively well at the FBS level. Never lost to an FCS team. I remember the faces of some UMass fans last season. They were stunned. I brought up our all-time record, saying UMass is still two games ahead. One man responded by saying, "Let's hope it stays that way."
This just goes to show how some people don't bother checking facts, because they are more interested in making a point at the expense of other schools. My, how far the mighty have fallen. 8 years ago the NCAA was speaking for indigenous people everywhere and forcing the retirement of Native American symbolism from its member schools and sanctioned events. At times this retirement was done against the will of the population the NCAA claimed they were offending (The Sioux - Univ. N. Dakota; Seminoles, - FSU, Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma have flip flopped in their support of Chief Illiniwek - Illinois (The name "Fighting Illini" refers to WWI veterans from Illinois, not Native Americans. The NCAA apparently could not force the name change of an entire state.).
Fast forward to 2013...Now the NCAA is bent over a barrel and being told by a group of members, including such historic football powerhouses like Duke, Kentucky, Iowa State, BC and Wake Forest that they should create another level for them or the members may explore other options.
We all imagined Uconn would be the first school the ACC went to right before it chose UL. Show me the money.MH3@MH35h
Huge news! Espn wants as much d4 content as it can get its slimy hands on as does Fox. Espn is encouraging ACC to add more teams if D4 comes
MH3@MH35h
Both Espn and fox are encouraging B12 to think about 14 or even 16. Will keep payouts same! Any current MWC or AAC team. IF D4 or split.
MH3@MH35h
This could dash the hopes of a 6th conference in D4...
Mitch Balhorn@mitchbalhorn5h
@MH3 Where does BYU lie in expansion lineup? BYU and Cincy are the frontrunners, right?
MH3@MH35h
@mitchbalhorn correct. But I believe USF to be the next in.
MH3@MH35h
Espn telling ACC more content needed to fill their new network. Telling B12 will pay premium on CCG
Brad Weiss@UConnPittDad5h
@MH3 UConn to B12 or ACC?
MH3@MH35h
@UConnPittDad I would imagine Uconn would be the first school ACC went to.
Anyone listen in?...listen again!
Kyle I asked how you knew "for certain " in this quote. You indicated that you don't have a source that you can cite and that's fine.
It would not surprise me in the least that the B1g vetted UConn but it's all speculation until someone has some support for their opinion.
To be honest though, I seem to recall Delany saying a year or two ago on Francesca's show that Connecticut had been vetted. I didn't think that was really secretive info. I recall it being out there before but maybe I'm wrong on that.
No way. If that had happened there would have been a 30000 page thread about it. We get 200 pages about the dude from WV.
Anyone listen in?
So no one tuned in, eh? Guess I can't blame anyone since I had a dozen better things to do including.... hmmmm ....cleaning the toilet!

Fair enough. I'm certain because it's from someone that I'm confident wouldn't have to speculate, I guess is the fairest way of saying. It's one of those people that I deem to be authoritative when on this sort of topic.

BC may have a split championship in 1940. That and Flutie were BC's best moments in football. This just goes to show how some people don't bother checking facts, because they are more interested in making a point at the expense of other schools.
Check out Stassen.com which compiled the win loss records of every team from the P5 conferences. This is a list of the all time records (65 P5 schools) of each school from 1869-2012. You were almost correct in listing those 5 but one school did not belong, guess who?
Here are your 4 correct if you will. Kentucky#54 Duke#58 Iowa State #61 Wake #65
Boston College #29th best record ALL TIME .....1,127 games played 637-453-37 .582 win%
ALL TIME P5
#26 Colorado
#27 Utah
#28 UCLA
#29 B.C.
#30 Syracuse
#31 Pitt
#32 Stanford
Never made a claim to be a national power but we certainly don't fit the mold of a losing program. Our worst ranking was the past five year window #45 and our best #26. They list 5 yrs 10 yrs 25 yrs 50 yrs 100 yrs and all time. That's Stassen.com. B.C is not looking for any special favors or alternative divisions from the N.C.A.A.. Convenient to throw their name into the ring though.
This makes no sense. Almost all of the college content they already show is from the group of schools that would make up the D4. If anything I would want to keep them fractured so they have less power to negotiate.
That sounds about right on. He has cult status (unbelievably). This board makes it's way around, obviously. We have HFD going nuts. His primary agenda is to get people to follow his twitter. And it works because he gets two sets of viewers. Those who hope he's correct and those who are laughing at his nonsense and people hoping his nonsense is correct.

Yes that is true- It is a split in 1940 -Minnesota and BC depending on sources of info.BC may have a split championship in 1940. That and Flutie were BC's best moments in football.

I watched the Miami and B.C game on t.v. remember it well I was in high school lol. The bigger thrill was #12 B.C. beating #1 ranked 10-0 Notre Dame in SouthBend 41-39 with David Gordan kicking the game winning field goal with a few seconds on the clock ending N.D.'s national championship hopes. Then in 2002 unranked B.C. goes to Notre Dame and stuns #4 and unbeaten 8-0 Irish once again. Also beating them 6 times in a row was pretty special. N.D. leads Holy War series 13-9-0. Lots of other great wins through history 1976 beating Texas 16-7 in Boston, coming back from 20 down to stun Alabama 38-31 in Tuscaloosa. Many other great wins as well. Not Just Flutie years. Point is that its a proud program with along history and a few bad years recently going 4-8 and 2-10 under a lame a## coach does not diminish the program in any way.
Just setting the record strait. Very clever wording on your part insinuating B.C is asking for special status because they they will not be able to compete, so you group them in with programs that historically have not fared as well. Im well aware this is a U Conn board and have been more than vocal about my support for U Conn to the A.C.C. or BIG for that matter. I have also stated that I have never supported Gene D. and his actions. I have had many constructive and insightful conversations here. I am in no way shape or form here to try to change opinions, but I am certainly going to inject my opinion at times. Sorry no special favors requested here, just enjoying my membership on a very interesting and insightful site. Thanks for your perspective.Apparently you didn't read a past reply I made to you. I am a UConn fan. This is a UConn board. This is my perception of BC athletics (minus hockey). I do not claim to be all things football to all people. I know B.C.'s past. I don't care. I have a close relative who graduated from B.C. I don't care. I went to dozens of games in Conte Forum and Alumni stadium directly because of said relative. I still don't care. Past performance does not necessarily guarantee future results. Al Skinner did not recruit a single first year player his last season at Boston College. Of course he was the logical replacement for Jim O'Brien (who was run out on a rail by Fr. Leahy). All O'Brien did was take his BC backcourt and go to the 1999 Final 4. Later scandals notwithstanding, O'Brien was as good a basketball coach as BC could have ever hoped for. Gene DePhillipo threatened a man's livelihood for merely having a conversation. Of course Frank Spaziani should be able to advance the program that Matty Ice and Coach Jagozinski got to the #2 ranking in the country. After all, he beat Navy in a meaningless exhibition game in 2006.
Let me ask you a question. Why is it soooo important to you for us to kowtow to B.C.? With all the shadenfreude that B.C. and its fans in general have displayed over the last decade, you could force the Boneyards' collective eyelids open, Clockwork Orange-style, and make us to watch Gerald Phelan falling in the endzone with the ball and it still probably wouldn't make a difference.
B.C. may not be looking for any special favors, but you sure are.
