The hold on Marrion was a good call.Yeah incredible that a program would expect competent officiating. The gall of these people.

Have you seen all the replay angles. If you have, then total disagreement with you. And, disagree with your premise that ref calls should be based on situations. Are you serious?Correct, it's impossible to call a perfect game. But I do think the game situation requires consideration. BYU was dead. 4th and 10 backed up against its goal line. Quarterback is sacked almost for a safety. In that situation, a very questionable call brings BYU up from the grave.
Totally forgot he ended up at BYUThe hold on Marrion was a good call.
He had a 96yd KO return TD that game and has two on the year. He has speed he was never able to show off here.Totally forgot he ended up at BYU
I saw a few angles and I didn't think it was a hold worth calling. I've seen much worse go without a flag. The OL could have been called for holding too. Even if it were 50/50, I admit, I don't want such a drastic game changing call called. Just like at the end of basketball games, you'd rather let the guys play even if it gets more physical then let the refs get whistle happy.Have you seen all the replay angles. What's a penalty in the first minute should be one in the last minute and players want consistency so they know how they need to play the game.I saw a few angles and I didn't think it was a hold worth calling. That is true in the abstract but almost never in fact. How many times do refs ignore penalties on say Hail Marys. It’s almost an unwritten rule in basketball that you don’t call anything but the most egregious fouls in the final seconds of a one score game. There is even a term for it.What's a penalty in the first minute should be one in the last minute and players want consistency so they know how they need to play the game.
If officials let the grays come into their handling of a game, then they bring everyone down that slippery slope with them.
Not denying those things happen, but they shouldn't.That is true in the abstract but almost never in fact. How many times do refs ignore penalties on say Hail Marys. They shouldn't but of course they do because we live in a very competitive world. Basketball, football, soccer, guys are pulling each others' jerseys all the time. If they called every single infraction there'd be constant whistles on every play. You can't call that when BYU is flatlining. Not denying those things happen, but they shouldn't.
Once refs call something consistently, the players adapt and the game cleans up.They shouldn't but of course they do because we live in a very competitive world. That's not how it works. You push the envelope and get away with as much as you can until you can't. Like I said, call the OL holding and the penalties offset. BYU didn't deserve to be let off the matt.Once refs call something consistently, the players adapt and the game cleans up.

Well for football, ice hockey, and rowing we're already "out", now if only some conference (with a good TV contract) wanted to invite us for the rest of our sports...We need to get out of the Big East

We need to get out of the Big East
This isn’t golf where guys call penalties on themselves. Heck violating the rules is a strategic component of many basketball games. It is part of most games if not so blatantly.Once refs call something consistently, the players adapt and the game cleans up.
Your missing or ignoring the point. High level players in any sport indeed adapt to the tightness or looseness of the whistle. The issue is when there's a lack of consistency. This isn’t golf where guys call penalties on themselves. Heck violating the rules is a strategic component of many basketball games. Did you mean here here as opposed to there there, or did you mean hear, hear? Here here
Here, here; there, there; where, where?Did you mean here here as opposed to there there, or did you mean hear, hear?
As I used to tell my kids a personal foul isn’t a sin it’s a just an indication of your effort. This isn’t golf where guys call penalties on themselves. Heck violating the rules is a strategic component of many basketball games. It is part of most games if not so blatantly.
UConn and Colorado both had rough seasons last year, but look at how much both programs have improved since then. As for the "net negative" tweet, Flugar has been saying for weeks that talks between UConn and the Big 12 haven’t stopped. He’s also said that major media outlets will report on the ongoing discussions during the first half of 2025.What am I missing here?

This week, he doubled down, saying Yormark’s plan is working behind the scenes, and he’s getting exactly what he wants. Flugar insists this progress will become public in the first half of 2025. Tooting his horn a little maybe?
