I don't begrudge RU their "success" at all. They won the lottery and it will become increasingly apparent for them athletically and academically. I wish it were us, but good for them.

I was born and lived in Connecticut most of my life, but attended Rutgers in the late 60's. Until then UConn was the team for which I rooted, especially basketball.

Several years before it was announced I told my son, a big UConn fan, that Rutgers would be in the B1G. He scoffed.

I've since told him that I believe UConn will eventually be there as well. Good luck to you guys. You deserve, and will earn, a better conference.

If he were spouting off about football, while I wouldn't like it, I could understand it. The last few years of UConn football make me yearn for the years of driving to old Foxboro Stadium to watch Rod Rust's Patriots get demolished by the AFC East. But spouting off about our hoops makes no sense.

Can UConn win post APR? Check.
Can UConn win while in the AAC? Check.
Can UConn win post-Calhoun? Check.
Can UConn with post-Kemba? Check.
Can UConn win as a low NCAAT seed? Check.

Now, the morons want/need proof that UConn win with "Ollie recruits". And after we do that, it will be if UConn can win in the renovated Gampel. And after we do that, it will be if UConn can win while a member of the B1G. Bawk-bawk-whaaaaaaaat???

Honestly, if some of these fanbases would worry less about what UConn can/can't do and more about what their own programs are/aren't doing, maybe they would win some too. To be fair, it's not just some RU fans. I've heard the same "concerns" from upstate New York too.

By March that question will be answered as well.

Just go over to CSNBBS and you'll hear upstate NY fans, UL fans....it's the same old story. The B1G thing with RU is great for them...but that will wear off quick when they don't get the state $ they need to make their athletics master plan reality. The RAC sits 8,000 (which they leave just under 3000 seats empty there every night ...2014-2015 avg attendance was 5770) and is a flat out dump in DESPERATE need of renovation. Their women's coach spouts off about a stand alone practice facility any and every chance she gets. She actually made comments of jealousy about UCONN's new facility last yr when asked about it. The Hale Center isn't a stand alone football facility and they have no permanent indoor practice field. I get it that CR was about football and tv eyeballs...BUT RU better start figuring out how to make these upgrades work and get them done. They should be rolling in the donations to build facilities on that master plan and have the start dates for those projects backed...that hasn't happened. If it doesn't happen soon...RU will be a floundering AD where the $ they get form being in the B1G will be the money they operate their AD on. Good enough to founder along...not enough to make a move in ANY sport in the B1G.

Al is an idiot, but he's harmless. He's a gypsy that gets driven off every board he lands on. For time being, he's not our problem.

I wouldn't begrudge RU of their success but they didn't really have anything substantial. They are not in the Big Ten because of any significant achievement on the field/court. It's people like this character RutgersAl who wake up on 3rd and think they hit a triple. They won the lottery. Good for them, but how many stories are out there where winning the lottery ruined a person's life? How many times does lap band surgery fail because the person doesn't work for their results?

We were actually seeing that failure before our eyes on an institutional level last summer the way Julie Hermann was constantly opening mouth/inserting foot. They are lucky that, like most people in commissioners' and University Presidents' offices, the Powers-That-Be are very proud and rarely admit mistakes even when facts are staring them square in the eye. Not only was the Big Ten was too far down the road to turn back, they were reaping the rewards of the Big Ten Network on basic cable, regardless of if cable subscribers really wanted it.

I love the Ollie won with Calhoun's guys argument. I wonder what they'll be saying this time next year.

Keep in mind that Al is really a journalist. Take a look at this video and I think that you'll agree it's "simply wow."

well...That is 2 minutes I am never getting back.

Do we know for sure that Rutgers Al on Twitter is the same guy that used to post here?

Academic wise they fit what the B1G is all about...AAU, excellent research university, contiguous state, big state with a lot of eyeballs for the B1G Network...the way they run the athletic dept ...not so much. I think if Pernetti was still there it would be different, but Hermann is a utter disaster. IMHO the ONLY reason you don't hear about her any more is she was given an ultimatum...shut your mouth and don't embarrass the University any more or you are gone! RU will flounder along in the B1G...just there..not winning anything..facilities always a step behind the rest of the conference (especially their flagship state school peers)...their fan base taking shots at UCONN time and time again. They just need to hope UCONN is a CR loser for good...becasue if happens that UCONN does finally win a seat at the table...the ONLY thing they will be able to say anymore is "we beat you to the table".

There is a term in gambling called betting on the come (it also applies to investments). There is also another investment phrase which applies here - Past performance is not a guarantee of future return. Rutgers has more B1G potential than UConn - size of market, high school sports talent, media market, etc. If UConn were such a prize then they would have already been in a much better conference by now

The B1G is quite happy with their decision thus far, as is Rutgers. Can Rutgers achieve athletically in the future - we shall see.

In any case, I wish UConn good luck with their goals.

The thing is, Rutgers has always had a big market and has always been located in an area of high school sports talent - in just about every sport imaginable. Yet they never win anything. They still go crazy over that epic third-place finish in 2006. Why? Because they have nothing else - literally nothing else since the Ford Administration - to brag about.

Yet changing their conference label to B1G is going to turn them from losers into winners? Overnight? Really?

I'm not comparing UCONN to RU...I'm comparing RU to all it's peers in the B1G. If you read my post again...I actually said that RU fit in the b1G VERY nicely except in that athletic side. Right now you fall into that category of the RU fan chest thumping about being in the B1G. I would thump my chest less and worry about every time your premier coach in their sport (C. Vivian Stringer) opens her mouth about how bad your athletic facilities are.
In terms of your betting analysis...You as a RU fan better hope Julie Herrman moves on down the road and somehow you replace her with a clone of Tim Pernetti. Because any sane rational investor wouldn't put a dime on her. Also ask yourself this...if Herrman was the AD instead of Pernetti would the B1G entry been such a slam dunk like it was. I say no...and UCONN isn't even in the B1G equation here...Pernetti helped you guys get into the B1G more than you will EVER know.

If you want my head to explode, keep saying things like "if UConn were such a prize, then they would have been in a much better conference by now". Everyone knows CR is not quite that simple. UConn was tapped twice for ACC expansion but blocked by regional competitors who were too worried that they would lose their share of the regional turf if they played on an equivalent playing field. Now, UConn is playing extreme catch-up by spending BILLIONS of dollars to meet B1G/AAU standards. No other state/school can say that because not that many schools have that level of COMPLETE support from its state. That there is a game-changer.

Our T3 rights and apparel rights are both worth far more than Rutgers'. In fact, both contracts are on par or exceed the large majority of P5 schools who have the same deals in place. Bad timing and incredibly bad luck has kept UConn out of a P5 conference...for now. But like Rutgers, the B1G will be quite happy once they can add UConn to the fold and complete their northeast takeover. There is no question that UConn athletics would succeed in the B1G...maybe unlike how they've already succeeded in the past as a BCS and post-BCS member!

The bowl pie being cut more than ten ways is the biggest financial hurdle. CCG would offset it but adding value is crucial.

I hate Rutgers and all it stands for and everyone ever associated with it. I want UConn to be in the B1G to resume embarrassing Rutgers athletically. Boooooo Rutgers. Booooo.

... Now back to your regularly scheduled Non-Key Tweets.

Why reply Dooley? The guy is just trolling.

These are tweets right? I just searched '@MH3' and that twitter handle was for some Malaysian guy or something. Just wondering where this MH3 is spewing his b.s. from

There's not too much we can say as we're on the outside looking in. The Big East waited for 20 years to see Rutgers achieve athletically - yet UConn and others left them in the dust.

If this is true, then geographic distance is no hurdle, the B12 is open to any school nationally (San Diego State, Boise State). UConn would be on that list if it wasn't already ticketed for another conference.

Exactly what I was thinking... the only problem is that its a tweet from MH3 so it probably has no truth to it.

His real name is @M H v e r 3
Take out the spaces. For some reason, you can't type his name on the Boneyard.

That was my hope when I read that.
