Espn has shot down ACC talks with Pac12 for full merger. ESPN will not pay pro-rata for all 10 additions so even more money than that is definitely not an option. ACC adding a few of those schools could still be an option but would only get pro rata plus accn bump

ACC adding west coast schools could severely affect B12 expansion plan because its really just about that late window. If acc gets it first then B12 may have no need for further expansion at this time outside of maybe the AZ schools (because there is value in those markets)

LOL, he makes up stuff and then claims that it got shut down by ESPN so you can’t be held accountable when it doesn’t happen. These guys are just the best.

Hearing that Pac12 presidents have vehemently rejected 100% streaming proposal from apple. No vote-just the general consensus during a call I’m told. GK is convinced ESPN has sabotaged their ability to get fair market using hit pieces.

Amazon/ESPN hybrid for +/- $20m per team might be the best option left on the table but concerns are several schools won’t sign a GOR for that and Amazon requiring one.

Correction***
ESPN is requiring GOR. Sorry. Trying to multitask and I typed that out wrong.

ACC may be going to an unequal revenue sharing model and quicker than you may think.

My source down south tells me the animosity level between FSU and ACC is through the roof.

Tensions started way back when FSU and Clemson wanted ACC to invite WVU and Louisville instead of Pitt and Syracuse.

Remember at the time WVU and Louisville were top 5-10 programs in football and were enjoying a lot of basketball success as well. ACC had been experiencing a very weak decade of football and Miami addition never brought the U of old.

FSU and Clemson flirted with the B12 in 2012 and Notre Dame was getting involved as well. Deloss Dodds ruined that affair and ND ended up getting a sweetheart deal with ACC. Louisville was added and FSU was placated for a time.

FSU was very vocal behind the scenes when ACC signed their life away in the last contract. At the time ACC was considered the most poachable conference and Espn wanted to protect their investment in the conference they had groomed for 2 decades.

Now the prospect of FSU falling $300m+ behind Rutgers, MD, and Northwestern has their donors, AD, and Board seeing red.

They have gotten legal counsel about breaking a GOR and it’s not cheap. $120m on the low end after litigation.

MH ver3@MH ver3
·

And they can’t even hope for an sec invite if they do break the GOR because espn won’t allow it.

B10 would be their only option and it’s not even a sure thing they would fit B10s plans.

So now FSU is leading the call for unequal revenue sharing. And I’m told by some that that won’t even bridge the gap enough to make a difference. Some schools are vowing to block those attempts.

So one option FSU is considering is publicly applying for SEC membership 10 years ahead of actually being able to join and weakening public perception of the conference essentially holding them hostage for the next decade. More to come….

Interesting tv line up sat. You got Uconn vs st john on CBS and Villanova vs creighon on FOX both at 12… then you got the UConn Women playing depaul at 2 on FOX…this is the 2nd week in a roll the uconn woman have played on FOX in a big east match up…

Hope the ratings are good.

The big east tv contract with fox is great for exposure… we even have a deal with cbs….the big east needs to renew this contract unless the money is substantial more going a different route

CLOSING THE GAP:
LET'S CHAT FSU + UNEQUAL REVENUE SHARING

CFB world is buzzing right now about FSU's bold demands for unequal revenue share after its trustee meeting!

Clemson, Miami, Washington, Oregon, etc. will want the same, as all have to close a gap of $30+ million to their competitors in the B1G or SEC. How can they do it?

— MEDIA MONEY: I don’t see it here. This money gets split up evenly, and changing to make it uneven would be a humiliating a kick in the teeth to small market teams that Prez+ADs won’t likely be OK swallowing

— NEW PLAYOFF MONEY: The new, expanded playoff is going to dump a TON of money on all the major confs (maybe $10-15+ million avg. per team). Because this is “new” money, dividing it up unequally is WAY easier to swallow than taking away people’s current / existing media money share

— "MERIT-BASED:" Prez+ADs won’t simply hand more money to the big teams. It needs to be palatable and “sound” fair. Like much in society, confs can pretend that “anybody” can earn the extra money (but we all know who it is really for, as the "rich get richer," though we're likely going to be OK with that for the greater good)

— CLOSE THE GAP: Assuming they’re as good as they think they are, the “big wig” teams could close their $30M gaps fairly easily this way, and also NOT have to move to the SEC, and stay big fish in their small ponds

— B1G GOALS REMAIN: Remember that there are enormous academic (and non-sports financial!) benefits from joining the Big Ten, which many schools will still clamor for membership, likely more so than SEC

— RESTORE BALANCE: This might tip the scales to calm the potentially catastrophic effects of a 2030s conference realignment

— JUST AN IDEA: We do NOT know how this will go, but this is just one example of an idea for how the ACC/Pac/etc. might more palatably “find” enough money to close the revenue gaps of their major teams and keep them from trying to bolt to higher revenue confs
