New logo is already growing on me

Wrong again Dez...it's as simple as standing out in a wolf pack or pack of huskies if you will...put this new blue toupee husky in with all the other teams and we blend into the pack..or remain all white sticking with a little bit of tradition (and our mascot) and stand out in the crowd...if you want to be a douchy husky then blend right in with the rest of the pack on sportscenter.

Ya know what stands out? Trophies. Lots and lots of them. If you think this or that cartoon is going to make us stand out, then I think you're beyond reach.

Meaner looking is one thing. Adding fangs would be absurd.

I love the old logo and I agree with hoophound that it made Uconn distinguishable from the rest. Now we went for a more generic logo that looks like UW or New Mexico. The white logo with the blue outlining of fur made our logo much more detailed than the others. I will even go as far as to say our logo made have helped some of our success. A little bit...I mean I know as a kid I loved the logo, and as silly as it sounds, psycholigically it has a huge effect on the "liking" of a school for many people. I mean Duke and UNC has kept the same logo for how many years?? I think staying with a traditional brand is huge...

Good points. The woman in Oregon who was one of the two people nationwide that picked every game correctly during the 2011 men's tourney remarked afterward that she picked UCONN to win it all because she liked our husky logo. That's good enough for me. So far, every non-UCONN related friend I have who has seen the new logo think it sucks.

Huh? Lobo is the Spanish word for wolf. A coyote is basically a wild North American dog and the wolf is of Eurasian derivation. Two totally animals.

I think our logo, as well designed as it is, isn't distinctive enough to be associated with one school.

You could say that about a ton of college logos out there. Only difference is they've been around long enough to establish a brand identity with their particular school.

Oh it doesn't matter what color logo you have. We can dress you up however you like. You're still gonna be a d*ck. "Dez?" Really? Sorry I don't approve of slandering the local news reporters. Holy , I need to find a new hobby besides arguing with children.

People don't remember UConn because of our fluffy white dog. They remember us because of our fiery coaches and our National Championships. A rose by any other name.

Someone who gets this up in arms about a logo is simply looking for things to throw a fit about. Get over yourself.

And they associate the logo with those championships. When you see many of these logos from afar, you have to squint until you figure it out. I said this in another thread. Three weeks ago ESPN stuck the old husky logo up there next to Duke's name during bracketology, and fans instantly laughed because they recognized the Husky logo. With this new one, recognition isn't instant because of the many gray huskies out there.

Yes, indeed. But I wonder which schools they are. I tried thinking of several and came up with distinct ones. Wolverines, Buckeyes, Nittany Lions (all white), Cavs, Tar Heels, Blue Devils, Seminoles.

I think Bulldogs qualify for your example, there must be a bunch of them, but can only think of Georgia.

Spartans, Badgers, Sooners.

I can't think of many that duplicate.

You're talking distinct mascot names. I'm talking about logos. Whether they be images of animals, people, or just interlocking or individual letters. Logos. If they're around long enough, whatever they look like, people get used to them and identify them with a school.

Point is, if this new UConn logo had been around for 30 years instead of the tongue-wagging one, most people would love it, associate it with UConn's athletic success, and not complain that it looks like a wolf, etc., and wouldn't think or worry that it might resemble any other logos. It would be synonymous with UConn.

Well, mascot names determine logos. That's why I was looking at names. Most are distinct. I've actually said I liked the new logo, and I said it early on... didn't need to sleep on it. Would be even better if it were white, as that's a UConn thing. Unlike the dark haired husky, which is also Washington, Northeastern and several others.

And that, my friend, I agree with you on. The sweater vest and bow tie tribe do not contribute nearly the amount to the school that Coke, Webster Bank and Dunkin Donuts do.......
 
I hate change for the sake of change. But when I add this new logo to my long list of things to worry about ... I already don't care.

The whole thing screams of a couple important people with nothing to do, deciding ..."Hey, let's change the logo. Maybe people will buy new stuff to replace old stuff, and they'll forget how much they hate our football coach."

Sounds like you agree UConn had a logo that was synonymous with the university. I agree. That's why I don't like the change. It's new coke.

Every change is not new Coke. I have no problem with the old logo either, and wouldn't care one way or the other if they switched it back. I just think the level of contempt by everyone here and on social media for this new logo is way overblown. It's not a bad logo design.

That kind of sums up new coke. There was nothing wrong with the old coke.

I just hope this meaner not white husky dog that is supposed to look real good on the football helmet makes some great recruit say " yeah I like this mean dog better so I'm going to go to UCONN because I don't think an orange is a good mascot so I don't care what conference UCONN plays in. That is a much better dog.". basketball had no trouble recruiting with the old dog so this new dog better get football going. You do realize this is what it's all about.

Except there was a serious flaw with our logo. It wasnt a husky and that needed to be addressed at some point. I always hated the cartoon Samoyed so I guess it's easier for me to accept the new logo than others.
