NBA Post-Season Thread

I continue to be more amazed by Popovich and the Spurs. If Dantoni doesn't beat Pop this year it might never happen. Pop loses Duncan, and still wins 60 games, and are outplaying the Rockets without Parker, they got their doors blown off in game 1. Doc Rivers bailed when the Celtics were rebuilding, Riley and Pjax would bail when their dynasty was over, Pop and the Spurs just keep rolling, its been what almost 20 plus years of winning 50 plus games (aside from lock out season in 99) thats ridiculous, Kwahi's development is a huge reason why as well.
Pop and Red are the two greatest NBA coaches in history. IMHO

If you haven't been watching, tune in now. This has been one of the best games so far this playoffs.

Wow Pop and Ginobili, getting it done without Leonard. The end of the game Pop chews out Gasol after the last play in regulation and pulls him in the OT.

Kawhi played better than harden in ot. Just an awful loss for Houston.

After this amazing performance, the first thing that stands out is Reggie Miller. By God, he is the absolute worst and most trite announcer doing big time NBA games.

What a weird game. Kawhi plays the majority of regulation, hobbling around, but putting up numbers nonetheless. He comes out for the final possession of the 4th and never returns. Somehow, the Spurs are able to cobble up enough offense in OT to get it done.

D'Antoni decides to D'Antoni. I think he is an underrated coach for the most part but his flaws came back to bite this team. He had a 7 man rotation and his team and specifically Harden was absolutely gassed in OT versus a much older Spurs squad. His offense once again comes to a screeching halt during slowed down, meaningful half court sets and Harden ends up going ISO after ISO with Simmons pushing over the screens repeatedly. We have seen this so much time it actually hurts to watch. The offense always devolves to a high pNr in crunch time and they couldn't even execute that.

Regardless of the series outcome, these teams are going to come into the GSW series limping and up against a GSW team coming off of a week of rest and just ready to sweep either opponent. Same thing is happening in the East. At least the NBA Finals should be spectacular.

As usual I find myself nodding in agreement as I read your post. I really hope the finals are competitive and live up to the moment. However, I wouldn't be surprised if GSW rolls.

Reggie Miller is God awful. He even dropped a "It just comes down to who really wants it more" in OT. I suppose that made me chuckle at least.

I 100% agree. If you didn't see the game, Kawhi didn't play a minute of OT.
I only caught overtime. Harden was turning it over like crazy, no excuse to lose with Kawhi out late.

I think the series is going to be a classic. Lebron, with all the mileage he has somehow is playing like peak Lebron and no one in the world is on that level. I might even be rooting for him which is pretty absurd since I was on the GSW bandwagon last year. Draymond Green will do that to people, even though as much as I dislike him, he adds a lot of entertainment to a game that is just entertainment after all. And he has given me a rooting interest in this playoffs (whoever plays GSW).

You are a more level headed man than I am. That Reggie quote had me cursing him. He had a couple of other gems as well and manages to provide no actual insight. To add to it, he seemed to think Kawhi was on the bench for rest, or something, and they didn't even discuss how crazy and impactful his absence was.

Yes. That was the point of my original post. Glad we got that cleared up.

Miller's voice is even annoying, he has that Andre The Giant always gagging on something voice. Everyone else has already pointed out that he offers no actual insight to anyone who's not watching a basketball game for the very first time, so nothing to do but agree on that.

The 7 man rotation by Houston was complete idiocy. It totally wore them out and cost them a game they should have won. I really don't understand what they were thinking.

D'Antoni's MO, he used to use a short rotation with the Suns to their detriment.

They had better go away from it. It's amazing that with that short rotation and a terrible night from 3 that they almost won the game. If they don't go completely stupid in the next game, I think they will win and force a 7th game. If that happens then look out, because a one game deal against a team that will fire up 40 threes could be pretty crazy.

Yes, that hurts Capela for sure, but they can't afford to have Harden sucking wind at the end of the game. They simply have to play Dekker some and alter their lineups so that he is fresh at the end. I know it isn't the way they would like to play, but in the playoffs you can't afford to be stubborn, certainly not with your season on the line as it now is for them.

C's yes!

Bradley went off in 1st half

Good stuff, 49% from 3, basically how u win in today's NBA

Rockets just lost by 40 on their home court with no Kawhi for the Spurs. Pop is awesome and the Rockets are gutless, they just got hardened.

Insane. No Kawhi and no Tony Parker either. They absolutely embarrassed the Rockets. Total domination.

I agree on the gutless part. Right from the start, especially James Harden. Who could have foreseen that? I think it was one of the most disgraceful performances I have ever seen on the professional level, and Harden should be especially ashamed of himself. His "effort" was a disgrace to the game of basketball.

I still can't believe what I watched last night. I almost never get to the place where I want to see an athlete called out by the entire world, but Harden was so pathetic last night that I hope he has to go into hiding to escape the humiliation that he deserves to have heaped on him. I actually felt bad for D'Antoni because you know that he really would have liked to just tell Harden to piss off and leave him on the bench when he first sat him in the first quarter, but there is almost no one in the NBA that can get away with that when it comes to dealing with their star player. What a historically pathetic performance.

Interesting, it harkens back to the long-forgotten time when OKC traded Harden after he was exposed and collapsed in the finals against LeBron. Now it legitimately was silly to sell Harden at that moment b/c he was the 3rd guy on a team, but also remember at the time the stories about his amazing OKC success focused on Harden being ok with coming off the bench and not being 'the man'.

Since that time Harden's skillset has grown considerably and he's capable and seemingly more comfortable with being the man. But he's not an alpha along the line of even Kawhi, Curry, Wade, Dirk, Pierce - guys that have emerged and carried teams to at least one finals victory. Remember too that in Houston's previous best playoff moment Harden was disinterested on the bench when the reserves rallied out from the hole Harden helped dig vs the Clippers.

Lastly amusing how now both the Russ & Harden MVP cases have taken a serious hit. Notwithstanding their win without him, Kawhi's still stands. I would have voted Westbrook though, he owned the regular season and I think was most valuable simply because he rallied a lesser cast and LeBron's playoff value is justifiably dependent upon conserving effort in regular season.

Wow. What a horribly dirty play by the GSW on Leonard. Were heading hard for a 1st game home loss and big do-do in the series and the guy blatantly slides his foot under Leonard. Dirty, dirty. People tune in to watch guys like Leonard. What a shame. The effect is probably going to be to take an exciting series where the GSW are playing the first decent team they're facing and make it into a laugher. May be a 1 game suspension. Really, if you take a guy out on a dirty play, should be lifetime ban from the post-season.

Agree, such a dirty play. Guys used to do that to kobe a lot. Should be a rule against it, or some type of punishment for outcomes like this

RIP Spurs. That was a damn good 2.75 quarters. Too bad the robot malfunctioned. Hope I'm wrong but I see a 5 game series now.
