It's a matter of opinion, and I can't fault you for having a differing one. That said, I enjoy watching today's more expressive game much more than the game of the '60s. In that sense, the theatrics has, for me, improved the game, or, more accurately, my enjoyment of it.

As I said, to me its meh. I don't stop going or watching Imagine though, if we hadn't had the shot clock introduced (a real game changer). Some of these after-dunk routines might have become 10 minute Broadway productions.

You must have hated Diana Taurasi. I should warn you - when Paige Bueckers gets to UConn, she’s going to show some of the same Taurasi-like attitude and I can’t wait. I want UConn players, men and women, to walk on the court with an attitude that says, “This is MY court”. It’s been too long for both teams.

Love Taurasi. But she didn't demonstrate after every great play, she'd have gotten tired.

Haven’t seen him play. Maybe you have. It isn’t “every dunk” any way. Some dunks are just not performance worthy as dunk afficianados know.

You say the attitude towards the elderly was significantly better in the 60's than it is today. I'm not sure that's true but I do know certain groups of people were treated like dirt back then that's why we had movements like the Civil Rights Movement and the Chicano Movement. As for the Ok Boomer thing it's mostly a humorous thing in response/backlash to the seemingly neverending blame some boomers put on Millennials for all the ills of current society. Some Millennials see the Boomer generation as the ones who lived on the high hog leaving the younger generation in a hole where they can't enjoy the same sort of life the boomers had.

They may be arguing about different things but the divide between the older generation and the younger generation has always been there. It was certainly there in the 60's where the the younger generation didn't like the country the older generation created and the younger generation was going to break those rules and norms at all costs.

I don't understand you saying I should reflect on my feelings about players expressing their emotions on the court?
As for celebrating and or getting into a competitors face that's been going on my whole life and I feel comfortable saying that's always been a part of sports. If it's not allowed and hurts your team the player should find another release but it certainly isn't anything new or something the younger generation does now more than ever, there was certainly a lot more of it when I was growing up. It didn't bother me then, doesn't bother me now, and won't bother me in the future. Sports are supposed to be emotional IMO, I want to see every emotion the good, the bad, and the ugly. It seems a lot of that has been legislated out of the game and I think sports have suffered for it.

I’m referring to your post 61 and post 95 in this thread. You’re making assumptions about posters and group categorizing. I was deeply moved by post 61. There was a lot in it that resonated for me. It’s not that I believe we should always monitor what we say and how we should say things but when you are making a wonderful presentation about people mistreating people why emphasize one group over another as being guilty of a problem.

Can Paige play for the men’s and the women’s team? Her passing skills are second to none in either gender. People should watch YouTube videos of her game. There’s a reason there are 400-900 hundred thousand views of her play.

Loved the one where she had a back and forth with an opposing coach over a play. He jokingly backed away from her at the end of the game in the line of players and coaches shaking hands.
 
The funny thing is I originally acknowledged the fact that I had seen numerous Andre videos and this was his first of any type of posterizing. So navery this was stated early and I do like the kid.

It’s time to end this I mean between Lynch mobs and now the women’s players we’ve reached the end I believe.

Next. I mean c’mon I’m too old for this.:eek::oops:

God I hopes so. Been praying for this what feels like forever. I keep seeing Yarders posting that "Geno will never allow this" and I just shake my head. He's been praying for this too.

Did any of y’all just catch that Albany Academy game that was streamed on their social media? Hurley was at the game. They only led for 6 seconds the entire game and won lol. Andre didn’t look so good he was doubled all night, his energy level just wasn’t there even at seemingly important times of the game. That had to be driving Hurley nuts. He did look great on the glass though, ended up with 13 boards.

Andre Jacksonwas tremendous on Thursday night during a dynamic 26 point outing.

Look, the dude is as elite as they come athletically. He's a rocket off the floor, laterally quick and moves around with ease. But, his performances aren't always consistent because of effort going up and down and a jump shot he doesn't fully seem to trust.

The effort was great and the confidence in the jumper looked better. What really stood out, though, was his passing. Albany (N.Y.) Academy put the ball in his hands and he showed off passing and vision that we really didn't know existed. If he sustains this type of performance through the winter, he'll be on the rise in the next set of rankings. Either way, he's potentially a pretty significant pickup for Dan Hurley as he rebuilds UConn.

I have no issue with dunking or celebration afterwards.
I just want wins, no matter how they happen. Why are people complaining about simple things. Did you all forget the last three years or so.
 
Reading all the back and forth made me think about a couple factors that brought us to this point, the main one being there's money to be made (or scholarships offered by big name schools) as a result of being known and recognized as special?

In the 60's, there wasn't much in the way of sports on TV, there was no cable or satellite and no social media and the players were thrilled to get a non-guaranteed contract for $10-15K per year (Mickey Mantle at $100K was about the tops in any sport). Syracuse even had an NBA franchise. No one saw Wilt's 100 point game and, if I recall correctly, Texas El Paso winning the NCAA championship wasn't televised.

Things started heating up in the 70's and 80's and with more TV there came bigger contracts and endorsement money. Players began to realize if they drew attention to themselves they became bigger stars and with that came more fame and more money. Catfish Hunter was the first big free agent and made about $700K per year and people couldn't believe someone could get paid $20K per start. Andre Agassi's "image is everything" commercials for Canon in the 90's might have signalled the start of the hyper salary era.

Along the way maybe some of the showtime stuff came from players wanting to simply show off what they could do compared to others.

So today, the bottom line probably is the more you're known, the more you're worth to the team owners that want to sell tickets and shirts and to the advertisers or game manufacturers that put you in their commercials
and products. And some might even do things because it gets them excited and amps up the crowd and their team.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to say here, but his legacy will be how he impacts the UConn program in every respect, on his whole contribution to how successfully UConn competes during his tenure here. His shooting, or how good it becomes is just part of it.

Both right here no doubt. I do have to agree with Chief in that his ability to become at least a respectable shooter will impact his legacy. No matter how athletic its much easier to guard a guy giving him space on the perimeter hence a better chance to cut off the first step. Hey he's a crazy athlete so will be a tough guard no matter but if he can make 33% from 3 and has a pull up mid range shot he could become beyond difficult. And his passing ability is so good trying to double him would create so many open looks! Exciting no matter what.
