Magic declares Caitlin Clarke 2nd to Diana

Basketball is a team sport, and all of the great Tennessee and UCONN players played on teams that were generally loaded with future WNBA players and had teammates who were former McDonald's All Americans or top 5 recruits. Even outside of those schools, Cheryl Miller had Cynthia Cooper for 4 years and the McGee twins for 2. It's too early to make any grand conclusions about where Clark's place in history finishes up, but she's a special talent that rarely comes along.
ESPN has 3 Iowa players in their Final Four Top 10 list. So Clark isn't alone to bring Iowa to this year's Final Four.

Clark is great and as I said already I wish she can beat South Carolina and get the NPOY award.

I would add Ann Meier. Who is Tischa?
Have the same question, from Wiki, (I hope it is her ...LOL)

Patrícia Nunes "Ticha" Penicheiro, OIH is a Portuguese sports agent and former basketball player. She played for the Sacramento Monarchs in the WNBA for most of her professional career. She was a four-time WNBA All-Star and a three-time All-WNBA selection. Wikipedia

I don’t like the “1st, 2nd, etc” thing. Caitlin is clearly one of the best guards in wcbb along with Diana, Sue, Tischa, and others but better than Stewie, Maya, Tamika Catchings, lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoops, Tina Charles, Candace Parker, et al? Don’t think so

imo, neither is Paige better than Stewie, Maya, Tamika Catchings, Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoops, Tina Charles, Candace Parker, et al.

In what way is Paige better than Clark? Based on performance on the court I don't think it's close.
The only reason Caitlin Clark has superseded Paige in the national conversation is because she has been injured. I absolutely love watching Caitlin Clark play and she is indeed a special talent, but she plays for a program and coach that allows her particular skills to shine. Yes, she is the best long-range shooter in the game, and her court vision this year has dramatically improved. She provides the "ohh" moments everyone wants to talk about from her logo "threes" to the no-look passes.

If she were to play for UConn, her talents would be evident, but her stats would be lower. Just a function of systems. If anybody doesn't think that Paige, playing in Iowa's system wasn't capable of duplicating or exceeding Clark's numbers doesn't recognize her extraordinary abilities. Paige has incredible court awareness, seldom is out of position, and sees a play develop before it happens. She possesses one of the prettiest pull-up jumpers I've ever seen. Clark is a showman, but Paige has an equal amount of swagger - she is more muted.

I will state it here and now, Paige will regain her spot on top on WCBB pedestal next season. There was a cut to her during the Ohio State while UConn was trailing in the second half, and for those brief seconds, you could see her mind already moving forward to next year. While I am sure she is ecstatic for Caitlin to win NPOY, in Paige's mind, it is only on loan.

I am absolutely convinced that she will bring UConn back to where it belongs next season. If I am wrong, I will own my statement.

I'm basing it on their college stats and what they've done on the court. Clark has one less FF than Paige, and will likely have her NPOY award in the coming days.
True, but not yet.

He's not yet. You have to be great, win, and do it for an extended time to be in contention for GOAT talk.

Having a great year or a great couple years, don't get you GOAT status.

Magic is trying to put Clark above Stewart/Moore/Holdsclaw/Parker/Miller.

Heck, right now, Clark is on the Stiles level. AA and gonna win NPOY and got her team to FF. That's it so far.
He might not have ever seen them play other than a video clip. ;)

So Ted Williams is not among the top greatest hitters of all time because his teams never won a WS. . I guess if you are young enough you might not know Ted Williams. And I loathe the Red Sox. As great as Diana and Stewie were, they both had a heck of a cast of teammates. I’d could argue that Clark has maybe done more for her team with less top shelf support. There is only one reason I would pay to see Iowa even if I thought they would have a hard time winning. Clark just does things on the court 99.999% of other players ever can’t do. Fun to watch. That her team has a shot at an NC is only because of her. UConn was in an NC discussion this year even without Bueckers. I think anyone downplaying a player like Sabrina because her team never won the whole thing is using a criteria that is beyond one player’s control. The end of year tournament of 6 games tends to
make people forget 30 something games that preceded the tournament. Is Brink less a player because most of her teammates were stinko in a tournament game?

We are talking players, not teams. Frankly 5 or 6 years out a lot of fans can’t tell you who won a title in a given year. Couldn’t say if Oregon won obe ir not. Half would probably guess UConn.
Now, you're changing goal posts here. Being greatest hitter, would be like being greatest shooter, or scorer or rebounder. People are talking greatest "player" (of all time).

Nobody thinks less of Clark or Brink or Sabrina. They are great players. But we talking about GOAT status here. And you ABSOLUTELY have to have won something to be in those kind of conversations.

Caitlin's different from all those great, great players you mentioned, Nan, just different... how do we compare DT or Sue to Maya or Stewie? We really can't.

What is missed by so many who knock down Caitlin (and probably haven't seen her play more than once or twice) is that the best part of her game is her passing. Sabrina would be a reasonable comparison in that regard.

Unless the Hawkeyes pull a huge upset tomorrow and then win another tough game on Sunday, Clark's resume will probably be absent a national title. That should never be the primary determinant for GOAT consideration.
WRONG!!!!!! That should be, IS, one of the top criteria for GOAT consideration.

Chamberlain was great, put up crazy numbers. But never won anything. Jordan was great, put up crazy numbers AND WON things. Jordan is in the GOAT conversations, Chamberlain is not.

Marino was great, put up crazy numbers. But never won anything. Brady was great, put up crazy numbers AND WON things. Brady is in the GOAT conversations, Marino is not.

You HAVE TO WIN to be in the GOAT conversations.

Agree. Bueckers would have to stay around and win some things in order to be in the talk for College honors.

If she stayed around and was able to win 2 NCs, at least 1 more NPOY, and a couple more AA's, then MAYBE we can start talking about her.

Same for Clark. She needs a couple NPOYs and at least 1 NC. Then MAYBE we can start talking about her.

But DT earned two NC's with a cast around her that was mediocre at best. This is not the first NC her sophomore year, but her junior and senior years.
Disagree. Jessica Moore, Ashley Battle, and Ann Strother all had WNBA careers. Mediocre players do not make the WNBA, at least by my definition.

How many other Iowa players will make an
WNBA team, in your opinion?

Breanna Stewart. End of story.

4 titles. 3NPOY 4MOP
Olympic gold medalist
WNBA championships.
Stewie had the best PF in the game with Tuck and the best PG in the game with MoJo..should have won 4 titles

Clark has one disadvantage that most of the great players did not have. She plays on a team were she is the main shooter, all of the time. Yes, she has some support, but not like UConn or SC or another really good team. She has earned her place as player of the year.

Wilt won 2. Bill Russell won 11.

It's interesting, most of the best players went to great programs where they have to play within a system with other great players, cutting down on the Hero-ball abilities. You take any of Tennessee, UConn, South Carolina, Notre Dame stars in the last few years and imagine they'd be similar individual stars.
We know what Clark has done. She stayed home and built a program at her state school. She deserves all the attention she is getting. To say that other players would have done the same is speculation. They chose the known over the unknown. Good chance Juju Watkins will get similar individual accolades.

That Clark’s advantage as much as it’s a disadvantage. She has to carry a heavy load because there are no star players to share assists or shots with.

Definitely winning titles should be an important criteria, Meyers7, just not the sole determinant, as I said earlier.

I think perhaps you meant to say, IMO, when you said WRONG, but you inadvertently hit the wrong keys.

By the way, Wilt won two NBA titles.

Effectively, VanderDloot or Whalen never won an NCAA chzmpionship, but how could you let them as ones of the greatest, same for McCoughtry, and the list can go and go
