What is missed by so many who knock down Caitlin (and probably haven't seen her play more than once or twice) is that the best part of her game is her passing. Sabrina would be a reasonable comparison in that regard.

Unless the Hawkeyes pull a huge upset tomorrow and then win another tough game on Sunday, Clark's resume will probably be absent a national title. That should never be the primary determinant for GOAT consideration.

Chamberlain was great, put up crazy numbers. But never won anything. Jordan was great, put up crazy numbers AND WON things. Jordan is in the GOAT conversations, Chamberlain is not.

Marino was great, put up crazy numbers. But never won anything. Brady was great, put up crazy numbers AND WON things. Brady is in the GOAT conversations, Marino is not.

You HAVE TO WIN to be in the GOAT conversations.

Agree. Bueckers would have to stay around and win some things in order to be in the talk for College honors.

If she stayed around and was able to win 2 NCs, at least 1 more NPOY, and a couple more AA's, then MAYBE we can start talking about her.

Same for Clark. She needs a couple NPOYs and at least 1 NC. Then MAYBE we can start talking about her.

Disagree. Jessica Moore, Ashley Battle, and Ann Strother all had WNBA careers. Mediocre players do not make the WNBA, at least by my definition.

Clark has one disadvantage that most of the great players did not have. She plays on a team were she is the main shooter, all of the time. Yes, she has some support, but not like UConn or SC or another really good team. She has earned her place as player of the year.

We know what Clark has done. She stayed home and built a program at her state school. She deserves all the attention she is getting. To say that other players would have done the same is speculation. They chose the known over the unknown. Good chance Juju Watkins will get similar individual accolades.

That Clark’s advantage as much as it’s a disadvantage. She has to carry a heavy load because there are no star players to share assists or shots with.

Definitely winning titles should be an important criteria, Meyers7, just not the sole determinant, as I said earlier.

I think perhaps you meant to say, IMO, when you said WRONG, but you inadvertently hit the wrong keys.

By the way, Wilt won two NBA titles.
 
Effectively, VanderDloot or Whalen never won an NCAA chzmpionship, but how could you let them as ones of the greatest, same for McCoughtry, and the list can go and go

Okay, mhshuskies, please name me 10 current or former Huskies who are or were better in college than Caitlin Clark is now.


IMO, this is one of the major misconceptions/myths in UConn WCBB history. Unquestionably, DT was, along with Geno's coaching, a primary reason the Huskies won those last two titles. However, to call her teammates 'mediocre at best' is both embarrassingly disparaging to those ex-Huskies but also dead wrong. DT had fine teammates, up to and including those Final Fours. Sadly for those two teams, they shrink in retrospect in comparison to the great teams immediately preceding.


Agreed, two years ago... and, hopefully, during the '23-24 season. For '21-22 and '22-23, Caitlin has gone above and beyond the level they both played at as freshmen.

Holdsclaw IMO is the clear cut best Lady Vol and has a case for best ever. Honestly though, anyone in the top 5-6 has a pretty solid case depending on what you value.

I thought those 3 were all clearly outshine by others while in college so it’s hard to argue they’re in the conversation for best of all time. Taurasi was the same graduating year as Whalen and she pretty cut and dry had a better career than Whalen. Same with Moore/Vandersloot. And Moore consistently outplayed McCoughtry head to head and always won, and that was when Maya was just a freshman and sophomore.

Take a good, long look at CC’s WCBB stats—each game, each year. Look at the cast assembled on her teams. Consider that every team knows what’s coming. Watch her play.

Now…image she’s wearing a UConn uniform throughout her college career and presently stands poised to carry her team past an undefeated SC powerhouse and into the finals, with a chance at a national title. Then tell me you wouldn’t be making a case that she’s at least in the conversation as GOAT.

I don't think you have a case for being the best if someone is cut and dry better than you which was the case for the 3 players mentioned. If you said, "one of the best" or "world class" that's different that definitively being the best.
 
They were not the best, evene Courtney VDS who i think is the best now, was behind Sue & Lindsey much of her career

In Euroleaue there's more players coming from all aword the worls, even if a lot come from the US, but how many of the great players in the W come from from outside North America ?

Caitlin Clark so far in her collegiate career: 2,646 points (needs 16 more to break 1,000 for the season), 334 3FG, 86% FT, and 782 assists while playing 27 minutes per game. She's got one final four and now one NPOY award under her belt. People can try to down play her accomplishments as much as they want, but those are insane numbers, and she's the focal point of defenses while playing in a power conference.
