Lou?Lou?

This is not the first time KLS has struggled with her outside shot, and CW is struggling, too. MW was 3-11 today. If KLS ever needed our unwavering support it’s NOW. They all do. All great shooters go through this. I promise you NO ONE feels worse than KLS. NO ONE!

Posters keep saying what KLS is thinking. No one knows what she is thinking. As far as playing out of position, Gabby played out of position her entire carer and Collier has playing out of position. KLS is struggling at this point in the season and no one knows if or when she will stop struggling. If the season ended today, she would not be on the first or second team of AA or at least should not be. Maybe she will attain that status by the end of the season, but that remains to be seen. The excuses some people are making for her are weak and the criticisms are unnecessary. If she is truly an AA, she will start playing like one.

Agreed. Lou played all forty minutes today, and my reaction to that stat is, why? For some reason, the head coach always seems reluctant to sit Lou, even when the situation really does call for it. He should have done it for a stretch late in last year's semi-final in Columbus when she had four fouls, and he certainly should have done it today with her struggles being so evident.
Maybe Geno knows something about Lou's mentally that we don't. Pulling her would tear at her confidence and would take time and effort to rebuild it which is more fragile than Stewart's mindset. Geno feels he needs to keep working her full time to fix the issue and the issue needs fixing to win an NC.

Starting next year they'll be lots of happy fans here because KLS will graduate...or am I reading my tea leaves too early?

Katie Lou is having a challenging Senior Year like Ann Strother did, having to be a post player, having to play out of position for the team, having to be the vocal leader and keep everyone else up when things get tough, physically being beatup in the post play, lots of no calls, trying to keep contributing in ways she used too, trying to do more defensively, rebounding, she does not have the team makeup to put her in a position of success this season, teams key on her to shut her down, even Dee had this happen Senior year for sometime as well, the pressure she is putting on herself is incredible, this happens...Yet she doesn’t ever give up...She is a Husky...Couldn’t be prouder...

Does she have anyone else in her corner on this forum?
I’m in her corner. I may criticize, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate. I can’t imagine how hard this year is. Taking the highest level courses, being asked to be their “do everything” player, and having getting physically beat up much like they used to do with Stewie. I’m thoroughly impressed by her willingness to take so much contact, post up strong, and rebound to help her team.

I’ll be happy she graduated, but not because I want her off the team. I would hope everyone would be happy when these girls graduate and move on to bigger and better things. Her presence will be missed next year.

Glad all of us fans love to tear down our players...oh wait...Head bang:rolleyes:
The MAJOR PROBLEM WITH LOU IS----SHE ISN'T A ROBOT, SHE IS HUMAN. The kids works her tail off, when the team needs a score she usually provides it. What you are seeing now isn't a Lou or Napheesa problem--it is a TEAM problem (coaches, players, subs). ONLY Geno can fix it.

You could ask any Coach of any ranked team in WBB if they could hand pick their starting 5 from every current College player in the country I will assure you most if not all would choose KLS! And so would I!
You may be correct. And so might @donalddoowop. Your points are not mutually exclusive. KLS may be picked as one of the players on 5-man team, but that's because Lou is a great spot up shooter, and the other players a person would select would allow Lou to play that role, stretching the defense. But this season Lou doesn't have a team that complements her skills, so she is forced to play a different role. And as donalddoowop noted, her statistics do not presently warrant consideration as an All-American this season.

This is not an excuse, as Lou and most of her teammates did not play particularly well, but here's an explanation of what happened today. UConn loses to Louisville on Thursday night. By the time they finish with post game interviews, get dressed, get on the bus, drive to Cincy and check into their rooms it's well past midnight. At some point Friday they have meetings and practice to prepare for Cincy. No shootaround Saturday morning with the early start. In the meantime, Cincy has an extra day to prepare after their big win at USF on Wednesday, and they're home.

For past UConn teams, this scenario would not have presented much of a problem, but for this team, everything they do seems to matter a lot.
Thank you , thank you , thank you. These kids are mentally and physically tired.
REST is my prescription.
What most fans fail to think: There are 2 teams on the floor, and in these last 2 games 18000, and more than natural at Cinic, fans jeering, and cheering their teams. They will foul, push, pull to win that game--they are not all Gimme's.
5 kids mixed with a sub here and there--no real continuity, mix and match chemistry but tired. Lou or Napheesa or Danger have given all they can give--no real help. These kids should hear the Teddy P (the guy with the blue and white hat) UCoNN, UCONN, UConn cheer.

What about the other player's confidence he pulls who have not played as long as KLS has? She is a senior and should be able to handle it. I'd be more concerned about the confidence of the younger players who are the future of the program. They have yet to establish themselves.

Lou is taking NO courses this semester - she has finished all her course work. Maybe she should take a course or something.

A crash course in 3-point shooting? Sorry, couldn't resist

Actually she's taking online courses to remain eligible.

There has to be a a resistance to believe Lou is juts a spot up shooter. Two years ago vs ND you saw Geo put her at one of the corners at the ft line and she took the ND player to the basket. It was deliberate to put her there. And If Lou is only a spot up shooter after she leaves then she and Geno have failed (definitelty not a failure just failed in terms of ceiling development.) with her development.

This team needs their upperclassmen of Lou and Collier and Danger to score. Upperclassmen need to play like upperclassmen and carry the load. And Collier needs Lou and Danger and others to an extent to open up the floor for her vs the tough teams. Right now imo there is no way Lou is missing because of the defenses employed on her. IMO she is as open as she always has been with most of her shots. She is 6'3. Many players defending her can't affect her shot. She's just missing. And if she continues to miss UCONN isn't going anywhere. This team needs Lou to score vs the tougher teams from 3 to open up the lane.

The offense will suddenly start to click when she starts hitting her 3's and hitting her jump shot 2's. (because she is also a terrific passer and we know Danger is too ths both would be the main targets on the perimeter.) She came in day 1 as a spot up shooter and if she leaves the same then it would be a big disappointment.

Don't know why she is bricking so much other than wild guesses that she is hurt (such as that shoulder-strap I saw on her at start of season), or she didn't pactice as much this season during the summer because she was healing from injury, or she is just in a slump. Or ofc any combo of the 3. But for anyone to suggest she is tired, I'd lke to hear their response as to why she misses so much at start of games says much as throughout the games?

She has 6 weeks to snap out of it. I’m not worried about Lou, she’s a prolific shooter. We honestly have much bigger issues on offense, like the inability of CW or MW to pass the ball. Subtracting Gabby & Kia and adding those two have really created a stagnant offense because they are so 1-deminsional.

I posted this a couple of years ago. Could it be that she is not the player she is made out to be? She is at her best when she can stand on the perimeter and shoot. Not rushed, not contested- just free to shoot. Back then I didn't like that 2-3+ screens were set just to give her shots. This was at the expense of other players production and marked a very unbalanced offense. It bit us in the butt now two years in a row.

Her game has improved immensely. She plays defense a bit now, she rebounds more etc. The offense is still unbalanced. The motion sets are run with looks for anyone else as tertiary at best. There are legitimately 5 weapons on the floor. Effort is only really given to get one gun loaded. Everyone else is an after thought.

Geno for the last 2 years has went with KLS or bust strategy and it has been bust. We won't make the FF this year.

Not sure why I didn't think about this earlier... Perhaps Lou just needs to get a case of Flu, then barf in a bucket by the bench early in the first quarter of the next game...and she'll take over like she did vs MD a couple seasons back... :);):rolleyes::rolleyes:

That is pure hogwash! A bust? Two years running? The team lost one (1) game two years in a row. Lou was far from the only weapon and certainly was not the featured player. Her teammates rarely set picks for her, and almost never got her the ball when openly cutting through the key. Kia for example almost never passed her the ball when she was in a position to score. That situation existed for three (3) years. If you truly knew how to analyze the game, you would have realized that the ball was equally distributed to all five better than any team in the country. Whoever had the hot hand was generally delivered the ball ... just as it should be.

I think Lou needs to command more space when she drives. Christyn gives herself room by using her legs, Pheesa uses her off arm but Lou goes in sleek and slim and gets stuffed an inordinate percentage of the time for someone who is 6'3". If she could give herself a wider berth, I think she'd make more driving layups.

Just a thought.

As far as her shooting goes, she should ignore the misses, ignore the haters and keep shooting. Good shooters know if they miss several in a row they are just as liable to hit several in a row. Make sure the mechanics are good, but keep shooting.

concur with you!!! I find it amazing how SOME UCONN "Fans" can "dislike" some of the UCONN players so much.

Then the coaches had three years to correct it.

KLS is a super "team player" sometimes to a fault. I like to see her look more for her own shot and try to take advantage of her FT ability and get to the line more. However, when a supreme scorer is trying to do a lot of scoring all the other players have to be on board with it. This team doesn't seem to want to do that. MW & CW are not willing or good passers and that is a problem for KLS too, especially when she is cutting or posting down low.
