Kia Nurse: early commitment reports; rankings debate

"another who for whatever reason has a whacked ranking for her".
Subjective.

I put in a tremendous of personal time to track all the services as best I can, create a fair system, and update it on nearly a daily basis. You dont like it? Make your own damn rankings.
Well if you are going to put that much time into it I'd think you'd want it as accurate as possible. My mistake.

It might help to create some adjustment similar to the old Olympic scoring or tossing out scores high and low or adjustments for standard deviation.
Far too logical. ;)

There are a number of high powered statistical analyses(inferential stats, parametric and non parametric) that do exactly as Ice suggests.

Vowelguy gets pretty testy. But not at me!!!! I like that he ignores me.

It certainly doesn't make sense in regards to his ranking of Nurse. And if it's not accurate, what good is it?

Nurse should be in the top 15 if he really wanted his list to be accurate. But he is way too stubborn to admit that.

But, but, but ... I thought you were a UCONN fan ...
You mean there isn't like an automatic super secret double hush bias built into these rankings???!!! What good are they if they don't help Husky Nation achieve world domination in the mythical race for the best recruiting class each year?

On a serious note - I appreciate the effort that you put in and the information it spews out. In the amazingly subjective world of HS rankings you achieve something that balances the worst excesses. I understand why you don't adjust input data regardless of the logical arguments that could be made. The idea of kicking out outliers across the board is fine but it doesn't address this situation either as you would end with the same problem seeing as their are two outliers at the top end, only one of which would get dropped.

One outlier and one not ranked which may simply mean we don't know who you talking about or we only cover the US athletes in which case it should bear no weighting at all.

That was kind of my point. I did not mean to be snarky about it, but if someone spends as much time on this as he says he does, I'd think he'd want it to be at least relevant. Ranking Kia 40 or 50 or 60 because she's ranked 150+ by one service and unranked by another skews the entire list. She's clearly a top recruit and if one wants any kind of accuracy in spending so much time on something, it should be accounted for...

It's one thing if you are looking at a kid who is just inside the top 100 and someone has her unranked, but most logical people would agree she's not the 156th best player in her class...

Anyway having said all that I sincerely hope we land her. She's clearly a great talent. I still find it amusing how Tennessee fans thing if we land her, it takes us out of the Durr sweepstakes. That's as dumb as saying we had no shot at Jefferson because we already had Hartley.

I wanted to be the 100th person in this thread so I can post a classic song by Gregory Issac...Night Nurse.

Cheers to all who listen to this great great song.

Well I really cant take all the rankings seriously after seeing Saniya and she IMO was top 5 . Now I hear out of NYC that Nurse is really really good. Top 15 I believe maybe better. Lets face it when Geno gets ahold of her she will be a lot better.

For much of the year, most rating services don't publish their rankings publicly, so trying to track players is a tricky, difficult enterprise. And there's the formula itself which also is of course completely ad hoc. I've had several nice discussions with folks who have messaged me about why, and have also been given some food for thought. I chuckle at those who decide after 2 minutes that I have no idea what I'm doing.
As I said earlier in this very thread, the Nurse case is particularly tricky, and I've been unsure how to handle. 2 months ago, I had no info on her. And it wasn't until today I realized Pn had given her a rating. I thought About calculating her score differently, but kept deferring whether or how to do that. It's just one player; so I punted.
The JUCO comment is particularly rich. I've barely seen any JUCO ratings before this month, and I'm sorry, your royal highness, that I don't want to put in the effort to enter all of their info, track their ratings, and then figure out how to integrate them with the HS ratings. (How do you score the the #10 JUCO - same as the #10 HS? #50? #110?)

Wow. And I'm sorry, princess, that you took it so personally and got your panties in a bunch.

JAs article is wrong in that Kelly was torn between UConn and Purdue. It was Uconn and Notre Dame....purdue was the third horse in that race.

I'd say, stick to your guns. State your criteria and resulting conclusions. Seems to me the real problem is who/what-ever published the 150+ ranking. They are the ones who need a new one ripped.

On the other hand, you are trying to offer an objective conclusion based on subjective data.

I think it is awesome that vowel takes the time and effort to put all this recruiting information together. He then ranks each team's overall success. How lucky are we in the BY to have all this gift wrapped for us to enjoy. So what if some idiot doesn't know how to rank a Canadian..!! I will ask Kib if I really need to know about nurses from Canada...:). Thanks vowel....
Go Huskies..!!

Is Nurse's attendance at the game today a PSU official/unofficial visit? If so, wouldn't a UConn announcement before the game be a little odd?

I need a NURSE today............Let her enjoy her last few days of enjoy the spotlight in her last recruiting days. Either way, UCONN will be ok and the Sun will rise on Monday and all next week for most of us.......

It is unofficial. Yes, I believe that is a key reason for the delay.

There's a patient by the name of Gregory.

Well none of the lists are "accurate". Just someone's (some people's) opinion. And vowel just combines all the opinions. And does a decent job at it. Least better than anyone else on this board.

It seems like another possible motive for delay is to make the announcement to her new UConn coaches and teammates in person before it is announced publicly.

All I know is this. After the UConn game her dad said I cant wait to get this over with. I had the impression that he liked UConn as did she. Cancelling her visits this weekend and showing up at todays game has me hopeful.

It's very simple. She wanted to commit in person. And hand Geno the LOI.
