So even Ohio state, one of the wealthiest athletic departments in the country with all that big 10 money coming in are not making enough to support their revenue producing sports and need to trim the fat? I don’t understand how they aren’t solvent with all the revenue they have coming in

The illusion of equality of all sports at the intercollegiate level was always bound to fail. Even if students get full scholarships most sports should he treated more like elevated club events rather than a full athletic production. When no one has a chance to make money professionally and you only draw family and a few dorm mates to watch, you shouldn't expect equal treatment to larger sports.
Regionalize everything for the season, have a one-week conference tourney and a two-wek national championship.

Literally no one cares who won beach volleyball, field hockey, water polo, men's volleyball and 3/4 of the rest of college sports.

THIS 10000%. Ever wonder why college costs have skyrocketed compared to the past, when students were riding lunch trays down Horse Barn Hill? Nowadays, the university might install a ski lift for the same activity. Luxuries like rock climbing walls, gourmet dining halls, and other non-academic amenities come with a hefty price tag. These additions are designed to attract top talent, both academically and athletically, raising the university’s profile. However, this often comes at the expense of the core education, which hasn’t changed much. It’s essentially an arms race that undermines what a public university should be.
Yes - plus a decrease in state funding

-> Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark has renewed his pursuit of expansion target UConn, with league officials set for a meeting next week where the issue will be reintroduced for in-depth discussion, multiple Big 12 administrators and broadcasting sources told The Athletic. <-

->According to the sources, if the Big 12 did accept UConn, its football program would not join the league until the next television rights contract, or at the very least for several years. When UMass joins the MAC next year, UConn will be one of two remaining FBS independents, along with Notre Dame.

In order to feel comfortable adding another school, the current members will want assurance that UConn’s addition would not dilute their shares of league revenue.

The Big 12 is a year away from beginning a new six-year deal with ESPN and Fox that will pay its members an average of $31.7 million per school. The deal was agreed to before the former Pac-12 schools’ additions, but ESPN was required to pay a pro-rata share to the four Power 5 members. UConn, however, would not be guaranteed the same deal. <-

Writers get canned when no one reads their material.
That's the corporate element to news media as a business.

In the "old days" it was tougher to decide how much each section of a paper was read and how much each inch of print was read. And how much each of that was worth for revenue compared to cost to print.
You could go by phone calls and letters to the editor, or mess around with advertisements to see if moving ads to different locations drew more business for advertisers.
Internet blew up that model. In a few seconds any bean counter can not only tell how many people read each article but how much time they spend reading it. They can also check how many times readers click on ads embedded in those articles.
That’s not what happens though. At chop shop content farms, yes, but at legit news outlets you are not asked to get views and not asked to attract metrics.

You are asked to do good stories and break news.

The editor, seo team’s expertise is how to package it and get views.

If we get passed over again im gonna lose it. But I don't think the talks would have gone this far if it's not happening. Sounds like just details to work out.
The UConn conference realignment saga is a unique one. No one knows this pain like us.

I agree that’s likely done. It sounds like they’ve been countering offers and the latest version of the deal is going to the presidents. I hope they come through

Very curious what the required "investments" into the football program will be. Part of me hopes Dave got Lamont on board with an on campus stadium to be complete by 2031. If that happens Dave will be the best AD in UConn history

I doubt its that huge. More likely it is around coaching staff pay and player benefits.

And it won't be particularly close.

I would see it more as an agreement to expand the Rent to the amount it was designed to. If Big XII teams are coming in and we’re competitive no one is going to complain about it being off campus, let’s just be realistic here.

If that's the case then it's just a lip service thing for current big 12 fans and ADs/presidents that aren't on board. Can't spend money you don't have yet. Unless we start taking out loans against future media payouts lol

I'd love to see a on campus stadium but I don't see that happening by 2031.
The Rent is fine. Spruce it up with amenities for fans, media production and visiting team facilities.
And yes, a certain level of financial commitment to staff and players.

Yeah some kind of ND Deal to help flesh out a schedule. It’s nearly impossible to be an independent when no one else is
And you can't schedule games if you can't guarantee a return game. And you certainly can't do a 2 for 1. The schedules are made too far in advance

I think Lamont is smart enough to know it's not worth putting lipstick on a pig. I don't see anything besides repairs going to the rent

If UConn is added, it may not be the Big 12’s last addition.

“Keep your eye on what happens in the ACC,” a source said.

Yormark, though, never wavered on his interest in UConn.

“Yormark’s going to kick every tire possible,” a Big 12 athletic director said. “We’re open to looking at anything. UConn is a big brand, the biggest-branded institution in the Northeast.”
