Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

If the PAC stays together, then the BIG 12 likely adds UConn and one other school. The Big 12 just visited Memphis, so it appears to be in play in case the western schools like San Diego State decide to join the PAC.

Memphis new partner?

Mexico loves the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if it does OK
You can't compare the NFL to this. A big reason the NFL has become big Is because they spent decades showing games for free and cultivating an audience.

A lot of those Big 12 schools are very close to mexico. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have branch campuses in Mexico. This would be a weird move for the B1G but not the Big 12 which is heavy in the southwest.

I mean this is an attempt to take advantage of the advertising and marketing the NFL has already done for American football. If it flops they just dont do it again. It's not like it's a giant investment.

I do wonder what they do about passports for players...

Lets hope so. I still believe our best bet is for the PAC12 to hold together and add schools of their own forcing the B12 to look east, at that point we have to be the #1 target. Memphis makes sense if they want to add two. Yormark stated he wants to double down on being the best in basketball, UCONN and Memphis would certainly solidify the B12 as the premier basketball conference.

Still no UConn stealth backtrack messaging, so I remain optimistic, but I’ll admit momentum seems to be dying on the vine.
If Yormark just visited Memphis, then the Big 12 is still vetting candidates. From what the AZ President said yesterday, the Pac12 Presidents still haven't seen the TV contract. In other words, the Big 12 hasn't finalized their plan. So there is still hope. It's just frustrating that it is taking so long.

Memphis is naturally a MUCH better fit than us for the Big12 culturally, academically and geographically. Checks off the BBall check box enough, has a large tv market and football has been competitive. Larger capacity stadium closer to campus. But they don't have NYC... so we shall see how much the league (outside of Yormark) really cares about NYC and MSG. Memphis is generally on the same page as UCF who the BIG12 clearly values.
Academically? Are all schools in the B12 community colleges?

I’m not saying I would travel to MX for a football game but I immensely enjoyed my travels there. I would like to check out Monterey and heard the stadium is great. I realize many don’t share this feeling.

Yeah it is weird. I honestly hate southern football culture and won't be looking forward to the constant down talking if we join the conference.
Until we beat them, which will happen soon enough.

One view:

Obviously, they're just looking to mimic the success that the American had after it put a TV executive in charge of the conference.

Nobody is talking about USF as a potential B12 add. I'm curious as to why. What is wrong with USF institutionally? I know brands are more important than cable boxes moving forward, therefore UCF's recent football success helped it leapfrog the Bulls and land a spot in the B12. I also think that UConn and Memphis are stronger candidates at this time. However, USF could also be a good add for them at some point. They would not be redundant with UCF. Different part of a large state (Tampa #11 DMA, Orlando #17 -- interestingly Miami is #18).

USF just doesn't have any real appeal. They haven't made a big enough splash doing anything nationally to get back on the radar.

The old "no history of winning" argument or do you want the "5th best brand in a state" argument? Couple those with the mediocre academics and suddenly your checking very few boxes. That all said, I see your points on market and super long run potential....its why USF continues to try to play ball.

Looking at UConn, its most undersold argument is the fact that it has risen to become "the" state school in New England covering six states and arguably a seventh when you consider NYS remains up for grabs with the SUNY system a diluted brand. Looking out 50 years, only UConn has the story to be the standard bearer for the Northeast - north and east of Penn State. Syracuse and BC will have their followings, but over time as private schools they won't always be able to compete the same way unless they hit multiple homeruns with mega donor alumni. No matter how you slice it, in a P4 world for the market north and east of Penn St there are just three options to play and ours has the most headroom.
