Interesting side note on Andre Drummond
We were being penalized with Scholarship reductions by
the NCAA in part for a poor APR score in 2008 and a very complicated recruiting violation which was pretty bogus . A former team Mgr provided transportation to and paid for minor surgery for a kid who had already committed.
Andre was a Connecticut kid who wanted to reclassify and play for UConn
We did not have an available scholarship so he ended up as a walk on .
There is some speculation that circumventing the NCAA punishment so outrsged Mr Emmert and his cronies that they invented the 4 year APR rule which retroactively used data from the 2008 year we were already being punished for as a personal vendetta against our HOF coach Jim Calhoun.
Using current year data and dropping 2008 would have made us compliment
The NCAA refused to use current data.
This caused us suspension from the 2013 Final Big East and NCAA tournaments
caused wholesale defections either by transfer or NBA
When UConn lost in CR and Jim Calhoun retired it was generally viewed as the destruction of UConn basketball.
UConn surprised everyone by amazingly coming back with a roster that on paper was decent but nothing more and winning the 2014 NCAA tournament.
The Hungry Huskie comment of Shabazz Napier could never fully be understood without this context.
A UConn fan without a hatred for the NCAA and sans a chip on their shoulder is not a real fan

One of the reasons why I first came to this board. Love Andre and his attitude.

BTW - He will become the highest paid Piston player ever with the contract he will sign this year. Never a doubt he was going to stay in Detroit. One of my favorite local pro athletes.

You need to hook up with Chief00. He's in tight with Andre and the bitches.

I truly have only watched college BB lately....I watched pro ball and a few college teams.

I assume that many of you guys don't know this year's round 1 basketball pick from FSU....nor should you.

90% of the people of the BB board regulars could tell you .
Might be among the most knowledgeable basketball fans anywhere .
There are some who could tell were he prepped or his AAU team ,
We also have a history with your coach. One of our losses in 1999 was to him.
We also have long memories ,
We take BB a bit more serious than most fans.
The other 10% are Syracuse,BC ,or Providence trolls
Their BB credentials are sketchy.

Kemba Walker was the most well known basketball player in the country in 2011. A legend. And by the way, most UConn fans are pretty aware of what goes on with FSU basketball, especially since UConn recruited kids like Xavier Rathan-Mayes, Beasley and Bacon.

Memories... I watched that game in a DC sports bar with another UConn alum. After the game some random clown in the bar loudly proclaimed that that that UConn team could never beat Duke.

The number of NBA, WNBA, and soccer first rounders are really impressive.

Especially the NBA first rounders. And I didn't even realize that Andre Drummond and Kemba Walker were out of UConn.
In the history of the NCAA tournament there is a small sample set of players who single handledly carried their teams to titles. Kemba, Danny Manning, Carmelo and just a few others. Hard to imagine a sports fan who wasn't aware of that. Particularly one who spends so much time posting on a UCONN message board.

As I have said many times...never been a basketball guy.

Many of us Nole guys don't follow BB...we may know much more about football.

The Warchant premium football board has tens of thousands of followers, the basketball board is combined with the baseball board on the menu.

I am interested in CR...not UConn basketball...nor Duke or UNC basketball.

While 1999 was a magical year for UConn...

....it was also one for the Noles who went undefeated in 1999 and won the football NC. I am sure you guys are up on that great team...7 draftees, three first rounders, Lou Groza kicker, Heisman QB...And Corey Simon, consensus All American NG, Peter Warrick All American WR, Jason Whitaker All American.

We, in Tallahassee just have a different focus...and that's all right for both of us...

Well since there isn't any CR to talk and none of us care about the 1999 FSU football team... time to delete your account.

If there is no CR to talk about...might as well delete this board..eh?

You guys comment that I should know the 1999 UConn basketball players...and as always, I say that there are different strokes for us different folks..and different interests that even may vary regionally.

And Whaler, the added benefit is that you get irritated.

Have you said that? I must have missed it the first 500 times.

What I don't get it why you seem to get that but continue to post on a stroke that nobody else cares about. While lecturing us about the most obvious things in the world.

The conference realignment board was created in the context of UConn sports. It's common courtesy for a guest to have at least scant familiarity of their host.

For instance, if I were to frequent an FSU board, I'd study up on the penal code, (particularly s3xual assault and grand larceny of crab legs), and corrupt southern law enforcement agencies in communities of higher learning.

Hell, every one here knows who Bob Sura is.

I sure do. Our HS regularly had to play against his team in HS. I think some of our players still have dents in their skulls from the ball where he rejected their layups. Dude could straight up play.

Edit- I see Billy is back to lecturing y'all Damn Yankees about what sports the good people of The Florida Panhandle prefer to discuss on a Florida State Board.Head bang

Spoiler- Its Football.

Yep...this isn't the UConn BB board.

And why should I study up on basketball when it comes to CR? Is there a connection?

Oh...don't go throw a hissy fit...it's a joke, I say, son, it's a joke.

I guess this is a "CR Board", but the entirety of the Boneyard was born as a basketball board. Hell, UConn was 1AA in football then.

Not knowing Kemba Walker is just odd. I'm sure even our basketball board fans know that Jameis Winston played at FSU.

Who mentioned that should no anything about 1999
Your current BB coach ( you probably don't no his name ) was coaching a very good Miami team. That loss was one of only two losses we had that year I believe we were 34-2.
Miami was the 2 seed but lost in the second round of the East Regionals
I was at that game. Since I was wearing a Ct sweatshirt and Miami had no fans there.
The Miami cheerleaders appealed to Big East loyalty to enlist us to cheer for them.
In retrospect it's pretty sad. I just used Miami ,Big East ,and loyalty in the same sentence in a positive way.
