I'm going to take a different spin. This is about divisions. If you bring in BYU and CSU, you can more legitimately keep Texas with Baylor and OU (TT is easy since they stink.). If you bring in UCF, there's no way to keep balanced divisions that let UT play who they want.

This is a response to a question about why the B12 is not valued like B1G/SEC... I thought this was somewhat inflammatory coming from a UT based reporter. UT's past behavior played a part in schools like Nebraska and A&M leaving. OTOH it's probably not an inaccurate assesment of the value of the Iowa States and Kansas States either:

I saw some concern by someone in some thread the other day because he quoted an unnamed source with UT as saying Texas wouldn't give up the LHN unless it was to join another conference.

Keep in mind this is the same "journalist" who quoted possibly the very same unnamed source at UT as saying Charlie Strong would definitely leave Texas for the Miami job.
