Blog: Swofford vague on potential channel, more forceful on HB2 as #ACC spring meetings open.

# Swofford addressed one other perennial with Fischel: league expansion. The Big 12’s current expansion debate is not only public but also messy, and Swofford, as usual, derailed any notion of the ACC growing beyond its 14 members for football and 15 for other sports.

Indeed, the only reason for the ACC to expand would be if Notre Dame joined for football, prompting a search for a 16th.

“I think our group is very comfortable with where we are,” Swofford said. “One thing I’ve learned in this business and on this subject is you never say never in terms of would there ever be discussion about that. But it is not a point of discussion in any way, shape or form right now.”

Obviously Swofford said "gentlemen, I am proud to say that we have reached an agreement for the University of Connecticut to join the ACC."

[APPLAUSE!!!!!]

Followed by a mic drop.

So, Swofford had nothing on a network. Not a surprise here. Back to the Big 12, where regents can't see past their arm.

In between counting all his money, Delaney must be sitting back, enjoying a cold beer and laughing his arse off watching the acc and Big 12 self destruct. Again, he is playing high level chess while these other clowns are barely playing checkers.

Translation: They discussed it, and ESPN said they weren't going to pay for expansion. ACC is learning to be comfortable in the dunce's seat.

The frightening thing for UConn is that ESPN and FOX may decide that neither conference is worth anything and the only schools that hold value are the 4-5 on top.

Puts odds of UConn getting in the B12 at 15-1. Behind Cincy (2-1), BYU(3-1), Houston(5-1) Memphis(10-1)...

Damn comfortable...

ACC may be the best sports conference going....that dunce's hat feels pretty good...more like a Mitre.

Major sports:

National titles in Football (2013), basketball (2015, baseball (2015) recently...played in the last finals of all three major sports.

Basketball...NC's in 2009, 2010, 2015.....runner up this year....Set the record in tournament credits this year as well as a two year credit record....

Minor Sports

Men's soccer...NC's in 2009, 2011, 13, 14...runner up in 2015......currently ACC teams ranked #1, 3, 5, 6, 11, 13, 24

Women's soccer....NC's in 2009, 2011, 2014....runner up in 2015.....now ranked #2, 6, 10, 11, 13, 15

Men's Lacrosse...NC's in 2010. 2011, 2013, 2014..this year four teams in the 16 team bracket.

Women's Lacrosse.....NC in 2014.....currently six teams in Top 20

If you like successful sports programs...the ACC is a great conference...

So this decade, UConn has 9 national titles (2 field hockey, 2 men's hoops, 5 women's hoops) while the entire ACC has 14.

If you were seeking to create a successful conference network drafting from the B12, ACC, and G5, then Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Florida State, Miami, Clemson, Ga Tech, UNC, Duke, UVa, VaTech, and UConn would probably be the first 11, with NC State, WVU, Iowa State, Pitt and Texas schools available to get to 12, 14, or 16. I doubt Louisville, Cincy, Wake, BC, Cuse, K State, Okla State bring much to a network that already has Kansas and Oklahoma.

Boom.

The best sports' conference is UConn.

Without football, baseball, soccer, or lacrosse NC's....it is a basketball conference.

If you are going to mention Women's Field Hockey, I should also mention such minor NC's as the ACC's in golf, mens tennis, women's tennis, women's rowing.

I do think that the ACC is quite remarkable and has a very well deserved reputation. Just in the last few years you've had Syracuse's decade long triple scandal of drugs, illegal payments to players and academic fraud; Louisville's providing hookers for players and prospects; UNC's 2 decade long academic fraud and current academic probation form their accrediting agency.

That's just the most recent ones. I suspect you know about quite a few more.

Does any member of your super-duper, wins-all-the-championships conference have as many championships as UConn since 2010?

This is not accurate.

The ACC has a lot more NCs than 14 since 2010.

Three in women's field hockey (UMd 2010, UMd 2011, Syracuse 2016)

One in men's cross country (Syracuse 2016).

One in women's golf (Duke 2014).

Two in men's tennis (UVa 2013, 2015).

Two in rowing (UVa 2010, 2012).

Might have missed some others, but add at least 9 to the total you came up with.
