Josh Carlton Transferring

The difference as I see it is that rashad hit the ones that counted. That was his plus. Ice water. Polley had that look at the end of the creighton game that rash probably buries.

Point being stat wise think of it this way, if you would take rashad on next years team, and wouldn’t we all? We should take Polley if he wants to return. He will shoot 40 plus percent on 5-6 threes a game next year. We need a shooter.
Besides this weird trolling thing you're doing with Rashad/Polley, the only thing I really disagree with is that you are just assuming he will shoot 40+% next year. Outside of 3 games this year he was a bad 3 point shooter, and not because he wasn't getting good looks.

He's coming back from a severe injury, so maybe he will bounce back just like Rashad did after the year he almost died. But he HAS to bounce back, because if he shoots like he did this year and doesn't improve other aspects of his game, playing him doesn't improve our chances of winning.

I NEVER said he was as good. I said their stats were similar and we need a shooter! I even said that I see the difference as Rash making shots that count, kid had onions.

I was making a case on we (well I guess, I ) dont want Polley to enter the transfer portal if he decides (like Carlton) on another year of college ball. Used a comparison stat point to support why I give that opinion.

But everyone here automatically jumps to "oooh August said Polley is better than Jesus Anderson"

This place needs a collective Adderall enema.

and maybe a remedial reading course.
It’s all good and I know it’s a Carlton thread love Polleys stroke when he’s on - but he really kills me. Maybe he comes back and absolutely lights it up next year - hope he does- but I don’t see it.

Nobody said you said Polley was better, so maybe no need to criticize others' reading ability.

You suggested that Rashad and Polley were comparable players. Frankly, they aren't.

Now, you were responding to someone essentially waving goodbye to Polley. I'm not on that train either. I don't think Polley is as good as you think he is, but I think his shooting will be closer to his junior year than his senior one and I'm okay with him coming back if he'd like to.

Then just say that, instead you chose to bring Rashad into the conversation. If you just said you want Polley back because he's a good 3 point shooter people would discuss why they want him back or maybe why they don't want him back. Bringing a much better player into the conversation to try to prove some sort of weird point opens yourself up to blowback.

I want him back because he just about as good a career 3 point shooter as Rashad Anderson.

I think if his plan was for a bench role, he probably would;ve just stayed here

There's a difference between playing 20 mpg off the bench and playing a handful of minutes every few games. He wasn't going to see any PT here next season. There are plenty of P5 schools that need frontcourt depth.

Depth is depth. There could be injuries, who knows? So there is no harm in having him back, unless we actually play him regular minutes. His problems haven't changed in the time he has been here. He can shoot well off a catch. He is a poor ball handler, so can't be a guard. He doesn't rebound or block out, so hurts you as a forward. He is generally a negative on D, as he is too slow to guard smalls and too soft to guard bigs.

As a depth piece, sure. As a regular in the rotation, no thanks. Give those minutes to the freshmen and whatever transfer we hopefully land.

You'll continue to get blowback when you post stuff like this.

I notice you fancy yourself as the arbiter these days about whats a good post and what isn't. It's cute.

4 year career stats dont bear that out just from a 3 point shooting percentage though.

If you’re just looking at a stat sheet and making the call, you’re doing it all wrong.

Tyler Polley needs a lot of stuff to go right to get off a three point shot...Rashad just needed the ball which is why he had about twice the attempts that Polley does. Lord knows what his final stats would have looked like if he didn’t have that hospital stint during his junior year.

Polley’s a good three point shooter and I’d like him back, but Rashad was a plus-plus shooter.

I bet Pitt gets in contact. Coulibaly just entered the xfer portal and if there's one thing Pitt needs at this point it's a big man who can pop a trey and a character guy. OK, that's two things.

Not suggesting it's his best move, but hey, I can be president of his fan club here.

I'm trying to think of a 3-pointer that was more important than the one Rashad hit against Duke with us down by 8.

Haha, as I'm typing this, I see @8893's post.

Good for Josh. I can see several big time programs looking at a 6'11 Center with three years of starting experience. Watch the USC tape and nothing more. He dominated a future top 3 NBA pick.

And as I have said before, Rashad was born to take those foul shots down the stretch.

I wonder how many times Bill Raftery said "dagger" after a Rashad make?

Every few years I watch the 2004 Alabama game to watch a team firing on all cylinders. Shoot that end-of-half walk-off 3 into my veins.

or the 2006 game against Washington with the hand off from Marcus Williams to put the game in OT. Rashad had so many enormous 3 point shots.

Shavlik Randolph and Nick Horvath. Yikes. Duke was so bad down the stretch of that game. Just some epically bad shots by Luol Deng and Daniel Ewing.

Those were the good old days when Calhoun could just pluck a top 5 kid like Charlie V out of nowhere and have him come off the bench.

What a game for Josh Brown.
