Sorry but you lost me on this one with this statement...how has the AAC held us back from being dominant? We had a top 5 recruiting class last year so it doesn't seem like it's hurting recruiting.

Geography for one... our closest AAC member is Temple way down in Philly and beyond that our next members are around 4 or 5 hundred miles away to 1500 miles away, and it's not even a P5 conference, it's a mid major at best in basketball. Doesn't hurt football as much which as a sport travels better for away games and for recruiting, but for all other sports it is a killer. It's very difficult competitively speaking, for UConn to consistently recruit in the basketball talent rich northeast like it used to. Ollie and his staff can still recruit in our backyard based on UCONN'S brand but the longer we remain in the AAC, the harder it's going to be.

Obviously you have an agenda which is to argue UConn should move back to the new Big East. The problem is the arguments you're using aren't supported by facts.

UConn's men's basketball recruiting has never been better by objective evaluation. Our team may not be winning the way we want then to but it's not because UConn isn't getting sought after recruits. UConn's recruiting has been objectively ranked by neutral services as top 10. Arguing the AAC is killing our recruiting is not supported by the facts.

In general, a successful poster on the BY 1. researches 2. thinks 3. writes 4. post in that order. Apparently you prefer just to skip to step 3 and, as a result, we are all less intelligent for having read your posts.

Please just stop it with your personal attacks. I was responding to UCFB's post to BrassB, which was not an attack by either poster but an honest debate about this.

I'm not personally attacking you. I am simply pointing out UConn's recruiting has not suffered under KO compared to UConn's historical average in recruiting. Based on the objective recruiting numbers, KO is recruiting at a higher level than Calhoun. UConn men's basketball may be struggling but it is not because our membership in the AAC is preventing sought after basketball recruits from coming to UConn.

Oh and here is the link which places last year's class top three...facts speak for themselves.

A look at the UConn Men’s Basketball Recruiting Class: 2016-17

Listen, I have no doubt you are a passionate fan and a fellow Husky. But telling someone their facts are wrong is not a personal insult. You can't provide false information and then get upset when someone calls you on it.

Just remember if you pass off "false facts" long enough then eventually others will start to believe it and then they are less intelligent.

Anyways, UConn has enough adversity without its fans arguing with each other. Lets leave it that...

This times 1000. People create stuff out of whole cloth and then whine when they are corrected. Newsflash: it's a fan forum, if you don't want people to discuss what you post, don't post it.

I disagree with this and it's already been proven with other posts in this thread.

My overall point is that a P5 invite will not hinge on basketball. That has been shown very clearly through the additions of some schools over us. It's football that drives the bus and if we wanna show we belong then we must remain in the best G5 league and that's the AAC. Basketball doesn't seem to be hurting other then the fact that fans don't get to relive their glorious BE years. However, joining the BE won't bring that back as the majority of the teams we looked forward to playing in the BE no longer are there.

If we want basketball to enjoy a better life then it is football that must bring it there. I don't think being in the AAC is going to kill the program like every basketball first fan wants to keep believing

Sorry but this is the realty:

UConn: Hey Big East. We would like to join your league for all sports but football. AAC basketball stinks. We would like to use your league to prop up out B-Ball team until we get an ACC or BiG invite. Then we go.

Big East: Uh...No thanks.

Hey UCFBfan... please identify what year you believe this phantom P5 invite will arrive?
I have no idea but I can tell you that the moment we basically abandon football by leaving it in some random conference to rejoin the BE is the year we permanently seal our fate of never getting into a P5 conference. You folks can then let me know how that feels the day the P5 realizes they can hold their own March Madness and leave conferences like the Big East behind along with all of the the G5 conferences.

The Big XII really screwed the pooch by not expanding this past year. They would like nothing more right now than to kick Baylor out but they can't do that as that would take them down to 9 teams. If you don't know why they want to kick Baylor out of the conference read this article.

New Baylor lawsuit alleges 52 rapes by football players in 4 years, 'show 'em a good time' culture | Baylor | Dallas News

If the league would have added two teams this past year they could give Rape U the boot and be down to 11.

Hey Beakum. I'm sure many folks in BXII schools and fans want Baylor to get the boot, but I'm not sure the presidents actually have any interest in doing so. Look at the supposed punishment they announced this week, witholding 25% of payouts - it's being withheld by the conference, but can be paid out whenever the presidents decide to. Which could be after Baylor makes a change to some policy, meaningful or otherwise, or it could just be after the media cycle has died down. If the BXII was serious about it, they'd redistribute that 25% to battered women's shelters and education programs or something, not keep the money in a bank account somewhere.

Relatedly, I'm not the only one who thinks that having the Baylor situation coinciding with the 2016 expansion decision soured the BXII on BYU who were also in the news for bad reasons.

^^ Yeah, it's a pretty pithy punishment. I mean, how in the flying fork does an institution have not one, not two, not ten, but 52 rape allegations against football players and not get the freaking death penalty. Apparently they didn't cross the imaginary line in the sand that the conference drew. Now if it was 53 allegations we would be talking some serious punishment!

The only reason Baylor is in the conference to begin with is because when the conference was formed the Governor of Tejas, who is a Baylor grad and big time Baylor supporter, demanded that Baylor get included. If you make a laundry list of Baylor screwups since being in the conference you would have more than enough ammo to kick them to the curb. But the conference leadership lacks the guts to do that.

What's dangerous is leaving our football team "in some random conference" whose geographic center is 1500 miles from Storrs. That being said, I think it would work for a few years anyway or we could go the independent route but that hinges on our success on the field. Maybe HCRE and his staff can hopefully improve the team enough during this period to get people to sit up and take notice.
As far as the P5 conferences trying to monopolize big money college sports, holding their own championships at the expense of smaller schools and conferences, I don't think Congress or the other two branches would allow a monopilistic money making venture like that across state lines. The anti-trust implications are pretty cut and dried. I could be wrong but hey it's JMO.

If you are implying that the AAC is a bad football conference you are dead wrong. The competition on the field is every bit as good as the old Big East, rivalries are slowly developing, and Randy Edsall just recruited a class of athletes that is on par with the classes he recruited in the old Big East (in 3 weeks no less) and league travel for football is not a problem when you are talking just 4 road games. Independence or a weaker league like the MAC would be a huge downgrade for football.

Women's basketball should go independent (because the AAC would allow it), but Men's basketball and Football need to stay in the AAC.

No, I'm not implying that at all, quite the contrary. The AAC is a solid football conference, and a much better conference than AAC men's basketball is, relative to other conferences. Which is why I think even though the geographic challenge is there, I think UCONN football could do well there until we hopefully get a P5 invite. UConn men's basketball though and our other sports need to get out of that conference soon, IMHO. Football travels better than other college sports like basketball, soccer and baseball.

What is creating the sense of urgency for Men's basketball? Our record this year is the result of Daniel Hamilton leaving early, very bad early season coaching from KO, and injuries. Which of these things would have been different in the C7 league?

The only thing giving this basketball season any life right now is the fact that we have a post season tournament coming up in Hartford that will give us a chance to punch an NCAA tournament ticket. You want to take that away.

No, of course not, if we move to the NBE we play in a much tougher conference, and the conference tournament would be at MSG. What's so bad about that? Soccer and baseball also get a shot in the arm.

You should be smart enough to know we have a much better shot of winning the AAC tournament in Hartford.

Soccer and baseball should explore other options to save money. Lesser leagues would be acceptable here.

Well I sort of see your point but you are aware that UCFB, the guy I responded to was referring to March Madness, and the NBE being locked out by the P5 in his opinion?

Right - he said watch what happens when the "P5 realizes they can hold their own March Madness and leave conferences like the Big East behind along with all of the the G5 conferences."

You said "As far as the P5 conferences trying to monopolize big money college sports, holding their own championships at the expense of smaller schools and conferences, I don't think Congress or the other two branches would allow a monopilistic money making venture like that across state lines"

I was just pointing out they already did that w/ CFP and if they (P5) think they can do better financially under their own "March Madness" model - they will find a way to do it.

... this can happen whether we are in the AAC or NBE.
