Javonte Brown-Ferguson Reclass?

Had to like this for the correct usage of "intents and purposes".
I appreciate that. Especially because I had just cringed over "stepped foot" a post or two farther up the thread.

I just watched this game of his. I hate to say it but this kid is a major project.

I know he is a year young so I am sure there is still good upside but from this footage he plays slow which leads to many fouls, doesn't play good post defense, isn't assertive on offense, and a pretty non-factor with rebounding even though he was at least 3 inches taller than the next player on the court.

I tried asking in another post what people saw in him because from the footage I’ve seen I wasn’t that impressed and I got shut down for judging kids based on highlight films. My question is how can we feel good about a prospect if you can’t even feel encouraged from a highlight film. How the hell else are we supposed to gain insight on a player? Invite them over for dinner?

I agree, usually I don't try to look just at highlight films to judge a player but even this kids highlights let a lot to be desired. I thought my Juwan Durham comparison was pretty accurate, but juwan had more skills

By looking at the list of schools who have offered

That’s great and all, but who knows why other teams are offering. Maybe they want a serviceable 4 year backup big. And maybe that’s what Hurley and Co. see in him as well if we can’t land a Cliff type. But eventually once josh is gone we need an impact big and he’s not it

I would say 91% of the yard said the same damn thing about Carlton too.

And people on here STILL hate on Brimah.

Javonte Brown Ferguson has everything you look for in a dominant C in 3 years. Carlton has 2 years left plus what we get from Akok, Springs and a TALL Tyler Polley. I’m sitting with my feet up regardless of which big we snag...Danny’s hitting close to 1.000 so far, and I am more than impressed.

Cardwell looks better in every way plus it’s not like he’s a finished product and can’t get better. He’s young too lol.

But this is based off very limited amount of film/highlight videos. But that’s all we have so I really don’t see a problem using it to make some BY judgements as long as we acknowledge that we could be wrong.

Carlton had a good foundation of footwork to build off of. This kid just has height. As one boneyarder wrote he looks like Bambi on ice. He can barely get off the ground, just too much work IMO to be a starter 3 seasons from now. I’d be fine with a back up role but that means we still need to find a big to take the reigns from josh

Staff going 4 deep to Canada for Ferguson means Hurley really wants him and he thinks he can be special.
I hope I’m wrong. They clearly see potential in him. Or they just want to lock in a big that badly so that Kofi doesn’t happen again. If they can get a commitment from him or Cardwell, they could go HARD at a top big next year and not worry as much if we miss.

I wonder why he thinks it was 91%. Couldn’t be more than 89%.

Carlton knew the game, had good hands and knew how to keep the basket ball above his head in addition to good footwork. He just needed to get stronger.

Brimah was a savant blocker. He struggled to learn the footwork necessary on offense. He struggled to learn the reflexive reactions of when to block and when to rebound. He never learned how to hold his arms in a manner to avoid fouls when boxing out.

With that said he was obviously a perfect complementary player for that championship team.

Recruitment is not always a science. The brainiacs in The Boneyard make comments sometimes that all the coaches have to do is wave their magic wands and they get the next Bill Russell.

It is rare even among five star players to have a player who is good if not great in every facet of his position. Furthermore if a coach recruits two players whom he believes will complement one another but only gets one frequently the alternative player does not offer a complementary set of skills.

Sure he could end up not working out. But no coach is going around recruiting players hoping they turn into mediocre backups, and I don't think that applies here at all

Kansas and Arizona don't recruit kids to be back ups for 4 years.

Don't forget that Dan Hurley was a HS coach for 9 years. He might have different view as to how kids develop...especially big men.
And a basketball assist from a good staff. Who is the lead coach in this recruitment?

Forgive me mojo gods..

I don't get the negativity about this recruit. I don't see him as any less talented than Cardwell(I understand I'm not the best talent scout in the world). The footage posted previously in this thread is from Dec. 4th 2018 almost a year ago. Isn't this 7ft kid only 17 years old now? Give him some time, trust in Hurley and Co.

The footage below was posted on 247 seven days ago. Cardwell is the physically more agressive player right now but Javonte Brown Ferguson's upside under the guidance of Dan Hurley and Kenya Hunter seems tantalizing. Confident that the 2020 class will be in a success with commitments from any off Omoruyi, Cardwell, Javonte Brown Ferguson.

We just have to trust the staff, they are very good and know way more about this stuff than any of us do.

No negativity really. People are only commenting on the video that is available. It is understood if not stated that there is not enough footage to know much about this recruit.

I like the fire and the bit of toughness and 'edge' that Cardwell projects, vs the lukewarm descriptions of Javonte which I think are accurate from the limited clips. On the other hand, Javonte clearly wasn't 240lbs in the video I watched and could easily be maturing into an impactful player. The interest of UConn, Arizona, Kansas, and Texas A&M is testimony to the fact that the clips we have seen aren't likely the current story. I think we could use a front court player with an attitude (Cardwell), but 7' 240lbs, maturing, with a soft baseline shot, also sounds good. Give me either one and I'll sell myself that we did real good.

Javonte would be extremely young as a Freshman, and if our staff along with other high majors see a lot of potential I will definitely be on board. I prefer Cardwell because he seems like he'd fit into our transition style offense more, running up and down the court getting put backs, lobs and offensive rebounds. First to commit works for me, then turn 100% attention to Cam
