Lexington is a much nicer and cleaner city than any of the Ct cities. Malone's Steak House is as good as any steakhouse I've been to. I go out there 5-6 times a year and there is never a lack of things to do. It does have its shady areas but for the most part the 2 racetracks (Keeneland and The Red Mile), along with the huge horse farms just add to the beauty of the city.

Maybe this is a Fairfield County bias but I don't think of any of those places when I think city. I thought they were all towns. When I think city I think BPT, New Haven, Hartford , Stamford and Waterbury and those are certifiable sh!tholes, Stamford only kind of.

It's interesting the mcdonalds aa's consistently go to dook and uk, yet we have won 4 out of 15. I'd like to see what KO can do with 4 aa's. I don't think our situation improves by getting a bunch of McDonald's all Americans. What has made Uconn successful was its upperclassmen leadership (I.e. juniors and seniors) not phenominal one-and-diners.

Lexington may be an attractive city, in the sense of having suburban cleanliness and uprightness with the business and cultural opportunities of a city; but it's still a small city - metro population 472,000, compared to 1.2 million for Hartford. Tulsa and Omaha are good comparisons.

But, I don't think "intimate" had much to do with the town or city. Players spend all the time working on basketball. They care about the team environment. Kentucky takes after Calipari, it's a group of ambitious go-getters who care about the Benjamins and being in the spotlight. UConn takes after Ollie, it's about love, hard work, excellence, brotherhood, teamwork, and fellowship, and coming out of nowhere in March to shock the world.

I think he meant the greater Hartford metro region, which is around 1.2M but is basically irrelevant if you're talking about Hartford as an urban area. Connecticut has "real cities." New Haven is a "real city," it's just not the safest, most attractive city around. Doesn't make it not real.

As far as Boston and Lexington, I think you're either being way too charitable to Lexington or entirely too dismissive of Boston.

MSA population is a good measure of cultural amenities - e.g. symphony, theater, restaurants, museums, etc.

Lexington itself has 305,000 people in 285.5 square miles -- it is one of the larger cities by land area in the country -- but then the next largest town in its MSA has only 30,000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexington–Fayette_Metropolitan_Statistical_Area.

Hartford by contrast is only 14 square miles and its population density is 8-fold higher than Lexington's. It is ringed by towns with over 50,000 people.

Ern, I wasn't talking quality. Just population. And I like New Haven better than you do. New Haven still has life and night life. But our cities are tiny.

Boston is deceptive. Technically, people who live in Somerville, Cambridge, and Brookline don't live in Boston, but they tell people they live in Boston.
