Is University of New Haven Going To Go FCS?

Who does that make sense for? America East doesn't need any of the NEC currently and will never need all of the NEC. NEC and MEAC merger could maybe happen if it needs to.
May happen. There are rumors that half of the NEC is potentially moving down to D3 and NCCU and SCSU are considering dropping down to D2.

North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.

Kind of a funky setup there with the two fields together. Think UVM was considered the best public school in the NE at the time. Their Qb named Bateman was an All-American, finished up at Brown and played a few years in the NFL. He was good, may be their best ever,
I believe Bateman was from Darien

My bad, I missed the MEAC part. I was thinking CT schools.

The NEC survives because it has an ungodly number of affiliate members. There's something like 15 affiliated schools with Howard having a full 7 teams in the NEC while it's primarily associated with the MEAC.

They should just embrace that. Let SH and Merrimack back as football affiliates.

CCSU, FDU, LIU, Wagner, they should all jump to the MAAC and leave any affiliate teams behind that they need to.

Let those other new teams figure it out.

I don't think the MAAC will want any of CCSU, FDU, LIU, or Wagner unless someone leaves. I do wonder if the MAAC is hoping Canisius and Niagara bolt to save on travel costs - they're far out there in west NY. Wonder if the Horizon League would take them on.

They were on the schedule years ago (1992). Didn't end well for us.
Three point three decades ago to be precise. An election year in which what's his name won. Was that game in Memorial Stadium? We used to park our cars right by Memorial and carry our kayaks into the pool for gate training in that era. Geez the years are flying by.

Thanks for the reminder brother. 1992 was a good year on campus (but the the '89-'90 year was probably the best)

See how quick + easy it's to move up to a bigger, more high profile conference. Yet UC has spent a lifetime trying to do that. Maybe UNH administration + athletic dept can give us a few tips on how that's done.

There are D2 conferences better than the NEC... Calling this a move up to a bigger and more high profile conference should be debated.

Lol the NEC is desperate for member and UNH was one of only two realistic candidates.

Really surprised in this day and age of money, money, money that any small school would think about, and actually move up to D1.
Aside from New Haven’s criminal justice and some grad programs, and many international students paying full fare, it’s similarly financially challenging to understand the school’s attraction absent sizable financial aid (particularly for CT residents who might otherwise go to CT State directionals). Maybe low D1 sports add something in the face of enrollment cliff challenges.

Former coach believes transition to Division I allows New Haven to 'control their destiny'

The Peterson Performance Center, a three-floor $10 million, 36,000-foot athletic facility with a state-of-the-art training center complete with locker rooms, a nutrition center and conference rooms has become the centerpiece of New Haven’s 15-year process of embracing a move from Division II to Division <-

-> “When you look at higher education, it is really trying to find its way right now,” said Palmer, who now works for the NFL office in New York. “Universities are closing left and right. The NIL that major colleges are dealing with, it is like the wild, wild west out there. Kids are taking gap years. Every university is looking for as many students as they can get. People that never advertise their universities are advertising all over the place.

“The universities like New Haven that are being proactive trying to find their place in this new environment are doing the right thing. Being aggressive, you can chart your own course. Being passive, they will chart the course for you. I commend the president and board of governors at New Haven. What they are doing is outstanding, because it will allow them more opportunities, and they control their destiny.” <-

-> “Geographically adding New Haven is a great move for us,” Pincince said. “The last few schools we have added in the conference have added some significant travel for some of our teams. So, to have a team in our back yard that we can play against on a regular basis is great. It doesn’t really take away from class time. It is an easier back-and-forth for us. <-

-> Mr. Crosby additionally shared that Michigan, UConn, and Penn State are all in the works to appear on their basketball schedule, so stay tuned for more information as New Haven transitions to Division I. <-

Mr. Crosby stated they are opening a branch in Saudi Arabia. They could probably schedule some football games at the Yale Bowl less than 2 miles away.

Plenty of seating at the Yale Bowl... Good idea I think... makes a lot of sense...
