How do we know Donovan Williams is as good as some claim? Should Diaco find a backup?

The practice of waiting for a college quarterback to develop is quickly going extinct, an antiquated custom akin to the wishbone offense and recruits who aren’t on Snapchat. Top quarterbacks show up in the fall of their freshman season, or even the spring before, already equipped with enough know-how to saunter into the starting huddle. The position that supposedly takes longest to master has been overrun by collegiate neophytes.

Why freshman quarterbacks are taking over college football

I think this article from the Washington Post applies more to the big national programs than it does to UConn. The recruits we are able to bring in usually aren't going to be talented enough to come in and be a star right away. Probably a combination of (lacking) national reputation and academoc standards. Hopefully they can grab a couple guys like that in the next year or two!

That article makes no distinction between starting a redshirt freshman or a true freshman.

How many of these phemons are there right now?

How many play outside the P5, Texas, or Florida?

How many were unknowns in HS?

We have been able to legitimately offer QB recruits the opportunity to win the starting job from day 1 for years now.

We've also been able to offer QB's that other schools want at other positions the chance to come here and win the job from Day 1.

They have yet to take us up on the offer.

I might wish to sleep with Jennifer Aniston. She has an open invitation and my wife might actually allow it were she to show up. And if you search the boneyard or it's predecessors you will find that this is a very old joke around here.

The reason is that we all want a transformstional QB to run the team for 4 years before being drafted by an NFL team. But, that's not likely to happen not when we were BCS and less likely as a G5. We can both appreciate what BS brings to the table, wish for improvement, and complain when it doesn't happen, but there hasn't been a better QB on this campus since Edsall left and possibly since Dan O left.

So, come join us in reality for a while. If we get into the B12, then I will whole heartedly demand that we scour the Texas HS's until we find a difference maker at the position.

My BP is fantastic, thank you for caring. If I was out of breath, it was from laughing at the genius(s) who connected the B12 invite into bringing in another QB. You missed just about the entire context of my post. Well done. Given that you can't be bothered to read the thread for context, you aren't worth the time it would take to respond and explain.
Your BP is good, nice. Your posts are consistent; never address the points made that you claim you're responding to and never offer anything that might be confused with a well thought out argument. Oh, and again with the name calling. You are an impressive character, NOT!

Laughable. These guys could rent you for a day to shine their shoes . . .
You are one funny Bastard. I've seen these guys in action pre game. Biggest struggle was keeping their pants pulled up.

.-.
You came here with an itty bitty fishing pole and you've gotten the reaction you desired.

You can stop polluting the board with your stupid now.
I'll let you know when I'm done pal. Still having fun. As far as "stupid" pollution , the damn EPA would have a lifetime project cleaning up the mess from some posters here.

We need a guy who also has the mental make-up and poise for QB. Unfortunately, BS just doesn't have that. A guy who sees the field, gets the play off in time and so on. I want someone who gives the defense fits in game prep because he can check off receivers - move in the pocket in subtle ways to avoid a rush - thus helping not hurting the blocks of the linemen.
Additionally, you a QB needs to be able to throw the ball deep, with accuracy and at a decent velocity or touch depending on what a play calls for. BS unfortunately doesn't have that ability.

So, Tom Brady?

We need a guy who didn't come from a P5 where they evaluated him and basically said you don't have the skills to play QB and then UConn somehow thinks it has better resources to prove them wrong. If you take transfers for QB at least take ones where the player was a QB on the roster.

Can you name the last freshman recruit that started more than half the games at QB in his senior season?

Yes, we should recruit as many QB as we can. We have yet to find a good one out of HS that panned out.
Dan O

.-.
Amazing to this day what the hell the guy ever saw in the McEntee to put him on the field without a couple of QB's being injured. Was the beginning of a long draught at the QB position which lives on. Up to Diaco to find the next one who can make an impact. Love the toughness of Shireffs and thought we'd see improvement, but he's not the answer either. Watch all the games, you know you need a slinger or an athlete who can sling enough. We'll see!

Pasqualoni apparently watched a continuous loop of that video Johnny Mac made of trick passes, including throwing footballs into garbage cans.
