Program name is nice.
History is nice.
Conference is nice.
And other schools have us beat on all 3.
But, ability to develop a marginal guy and give him a shot at the NBA or solidify him as a top notch international pro - that's very nice.

With the top grad transfers, I think the biggest thing is PT. They want PT at a quality basketball school, for good reason.

Remember - less than 1 year in, and Dan Hurley can already say, "I produced the most improved player in the AAC this year," in addition to guys he developed at previous stops.

This is actually a bigger thing than we generally give credit to. I've mentioned before they can use Carlton's improvement to sell future bigs. But having it paper, written in stone as AAC MIP, that's meaningful. It's easy to say, we made this guy better, but when everybody else says the same thing? Gold.

Do you think UConn fans are, as a group, more neurotically miserable than other fan bases?

Two things. 1. New Englanders are a dour lot to begin with 2. We've gone from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. Everybody has PTSD.

I do think there's something different between grad transfers and recruits. You can sell top recruits a long-term vision, and they also want to be developed and hop to the league.

Grad transfers aren't NBA players, and they aren't as interested in developing or contributing to the revival of a blue-blood. The most attractive of them are leaving where they are to win, and to win regularly, and maybe win a title. We were that spot for Kromah, Miller, and Gibbs. Our rosters looked like they could win or compete for a title.

Our current roster isn't necessarily there yet. Next year? We'll be in discussions for better grad transfers, and we'll be in the market in two or three years ready to compete with pretty much anyone.

All true, but probably the biggest thing is PT. These kids aren't going somewhere to sit on the bench. The coach has to basically promise them minutes, which usually isn't that hard given that you take GTs because of holes in your roster.

Wish we could get a redo with this coaching staff and a freshman Kentan Facey

Yeah and Jim Calhoun too on a freshman Deandre Daniels. He didnt get better until he got the new staff either.

Head bang

I know the point you’re trying to make, but Kentan Facey wasn’t even serviceable till the second half of his junior year...and yeah, big men take a little longer, but at least with Carlton you can see consistent improvements.

Think about how much better bazz would be with 4 years of Calhoun.....(am I doing it right?)

The grad transfer dilemma for coaches:
-Who do I go for now;
-Who will be available next week;
-Should I wait to see if so and so actually decides to transfer;
-If he didn't do as well as expected there, can we make him better;
-Maybe I should go back to being a Guidance Counsellor.

I believe we were in his top 5 with the old staff

their entire roster will be some of the most coveted recruits in america and they had a coach with NBA finals experience how the hell were they not better lol

Butler's Joey Brunk is a decent looking graduate center with 2 years of eligibility left. Wouldn't mind him backing up Carlton the next couple of years. Good size and seems like a decent skill set.

If UConn decides to fill the vacant backup center position with a grad transfer, it's important to note that whoever signs here will know that playing time will be limited. For that reason, I'm not holding my breath for Carvacho, Sestina or Andree.

To me, Alabama's Daniel Giddens seems like a great fit. He reminds me a bit of Yakwe where he's known more for his D and had his best season as a freshman in OSU. However, unlike Yakwe, Giddens has real 5 size at 6'11 247.

Playing time here is the furthest thing from limited, there is more playing time available here than pretty much any frontcourt in America.

Not one player on this team has ever finished above .500 and you don't think there is immediate playing time available?

I realize this thread is about grad transfers, but when you consider coaching changes, there are tons of players that may be reconsidering their future. If you count Wade, there are 5 coaching changes in the SEC alone.
