All college hoop staffs try to maximize their possible options in case of all the possible scenario's.
Guaranteed our staff has multiple options identified at any position and eyes open for new options.
The obvious hope is to identify and land the most talented prospect that fits our greatest need.

Last year Whaley showed some flashes with his length and defensive effort. For whatever reason, he hasn't been able to break through this year. Other than a cameo appearance, I wouldn't expect that he would substantially contribute in the remaining few weeks.

Saw him come in late vs. Houston to foul and only played a few seconds. When he was taken out he walked down the line sharing taps on the hand but with a smile, one of which is form someone not into what he's doing quite honestly. Looked like one foot out, just saying.

True, but recruits can talk all they want. And they do talk to family, friends, and recruiting services. Sometimes the information gets out from those and other sources. Sometimes coaches can confirm with a nod or wink. (Without saying a word). Or coaches are seen following certain recruits at camps or tournaments.

Whaley is a great natural shot blocker and rebounder. He was ugly at the free throw line, but he's not the Mandeldovian specimen he's made out to be.

One of the worst rebounders at his position in the country, if not the worst.
Thanks for bringing some reality to the board. Joober is far from the only one who has talked about Whaley's great defense, rebounding, and shotblocking. The way people talk about Polley and even Whaley and Kwintin makes it seem like these posters have never watched basketball before, it's really strange.

Mybe the worst rebounder at any position UConn has ever had especially as a starter. The fact that all our guards including a 5’10 AG grab more boards than Tyler is troubling.

The metrics don’t lie.

Untrained eyes do.

Do I again have to point out that looking at limited stats in limited minutes doesn't indicate potential. How many on the board were ready to bail on Polley's shooting ability earlier this year? He has, and has always had, a very solid stroke, the guys on the team referred to him as their shooter, and now we're seeing what they were talking about. Not every player arrives on campus ready to perform at their ceiling. Furthermore, not everyone improves at the same pace.

Whaley has length, jumping ability, timing, and good hands. Those are things you can work with and develop. He needs strength, some reliable inside moves, and (eventually) a 10-15 ft. jump shot. That's trainable. He would also need playing time. He can earn it in practice. If he doesn't work in practice that's the bigger problem.

To summarize the previous 5 pages of this thread....

It appears that [redacted] and [redacted] will likely transfer at the end of this season since [redacted] does not think they are part of the future. Meaning we will likely have 3 scholarships still available.
