They no longer have the power to tarnish anyone let alone Geno. What they have is the ability to be bullies. This is the reason they are falling apart in front of everyone's eyes.It may be a laughing stock, but they have the power to tarnish Coach Auriemma and his WCBB program, not to mention take away scholarships and ban the team from post-season play. I refuse to laugh at an organization that can pretty much do whatever they want when it comes to enforcement. This very well could be payback for Shabazz spouting off and embarrassing Emmert on national TV.
Oh geez.It would be awesome if the school could, you know stop cheating, just for a few years. I mean the men just got off probation for God's sake so you'd think *someone* in the Athletic Department could say "yo Geno we don't have a great track record with the NCAA so maybe on these borderline cases we should just err on the side of caution." Sorry, I know most on here just care about the streaks and Ws, but I do actually give a damn about the athletic programs keeping it clean, and a secondary violation is still a violation.
Can I nominate this for the most inane post of the decade? Maybe the century but there is a lot of time left.It would be awesome if the school could, you know stop cheating, just for a few years. I doubt any of those. Coquese has great respect for Geno. This has to be a new record response time by the NCAA. One has to wonder what they have against UConn.
"It shows you what is wrong not only for things that go on but also with some of the people that I coach against," he (Geno) said.
My money's on Kentucky, Rutgers or Penn State.
There were issues of illegal contact by assistant coaches at one point weren't there? The men didn't have a recruting violation. It was having to low an APR.
What was unfair is they went back to prior years before the guidelines were set.
The NCAA, through their inability to consistently apply even their own convoluted rules, has lost the moral high ground. The key to moral behavior is ethical principles consistently applied...They can make lives miserable for people in an attempt to prove their power but they have lost all ability to project anything moral or good with a right to be taken seriously.
Have they ever met in person ? I don't think so.I would like to have a copy.
Maybe, but I don't remember that. There were issues of illegal contact by assistant coaches at one point weren't there?
UConn needs to stop cheating because the NCAA is just waiting to drop the hammer on us. We need to do it better and cleaner than anyone else or eventually it will be a death by a thousand paper cuts.
If you're referring to Nate Miles in 2010, then yes. I don't think Miles ever even made it to campus, but UConn and Calhoun were sanctioned for the infractions nonetheless. I think the rules changed shortly thereafter. There were issues of illegal contact by assistant coaches at one point weren't there?
I am not sure if it was mis reported or not but on the news this morning they said "a school from the AAC has reported UConn Coach Geno Auriemma".
No scholarships were lost. The number of allowable off-campus recruiting days was cut from 130 to 90 for the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 recruiting periods. If you're referring to Nate Miles in 2010, then yes. They lost scholarships for 3 academic years (one per year for 2 years self-imposed with the NCAA tacking on the third year). And Calhoun was suspended for 3 games. And the team was on probation until February of this year.No scholarships were lost. The number of allowable off-campus recruiting days was cut from 130 to 90 for the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 recruiting periods.
Will the NCAA reverse course? This is getting quite a lot of bad press.Mike & Mike just went off on the "sniveling weasel", who reported the call as a violation.
If I have my guesses I'm leaning any of 3 ways! Muffet McGraw, ND / Brenda Frese, MD / Holly Warlick, TN. The first 2 because of obvious nasty/ jealous comments previously, or TN through the SEC!
I think it really sucks that anyone can accuse someone of violations and the NCAA won't release those people or the school! It can't happen in a court of law but the NCAA has no clue!
And even if it is a minor violation you have to be pretty petty to go after something like this!
