Furman Postgame Thread

I am so happy we are not tipping at 12:15 on Sunday. I'd rather have as much time to get Silas healthy as possible.

The best play by Furman was when Solo waved his hand 5” from House and they called a three-point shooting foul. That was the worst phantom foul call I’ve seen all year.
I thought we’d get a friendlier whistle in the tourney…nope. We basically lived in the paint posting them up, o rebounds, put backs…none of their players were in foul trouble and we still got outshot at the line.

The officiating was terrible tonight. Saw a few clean blocks by UConn, the phantom foul on Solo on the 3 point shot. The screw up with the goaltending call. Meanwhile Tarris was being held, and nothing.

Mullins had an overall terrible game but made up for it with those back to back steals in the 2H. Our lead had been slipping and that turned the tide
Great D. Proof that defense may be an even bigger issue and asset than knocking down 3's. Let's face it, UConn gave up 71 points to a 15 seed? Crazy. Outside of Ross, I really want to see our defense get better, especially off the bench. Hopefully Dan Hurley gets Reibe and others on the bench, to focus on defense and rebounds. Concentrate on that, and the offense comes with time.

Furman hit a lot of tough shots, and got bailed out a lot by the officials. UConn can player better D, but I thought they were fine there.

I like him, but i still don't think he's cut out for high major play. We shut him down hard in the 2nd half.

He would be better then Millender or Malachi though, that's for sure.

Something tells me he doesn't want to come here and be Silas's backup. He wants to be the focal point for a team.
Maybe he'd be better than Silas. Why assume projected growth?

I nodded when Hurley chided that Furman were a '15 seed'. I mean, they were, but that team can play some ball.

Want Wilkins if he goes in the portal.
Hurley does like to take PGs out of the portal that he played against. Newton, Smith and Mahaney (yeah I know he wasn’t really a PG). Demary is an exception it seems.

At least now we know that bad refereeing is not BE only thing.
I don’t have much to say about the refs but there is one thing I’d like a clarification on. When the Furman player lost his shoe the refs stopped the game so he could put it back on. Do refs do that? I didn’t think they’re supposed to. As a matter of fact Reed lost his shoe earlier in the game and they didn’t stop the game. Or did Furman call a timeout? I was confused about that.

If he can't go, Malachi got a game starting under his belt, played well, and Alec also got some important minutes. Would expect them both to be more comfortable.

At times I was wondering what’s coming first; a stroke or running to vomit.

1.). It’s obvi that Silas is a must. Could still survive Sunday w/o him - but a must play anything after that. Smith needs to be better.

2.) Mullins was sleeping on D so many times. His shot is such a struggle this month. He has to wake up … fast. No way is he NBA ready. Sucks that “experts” are going to put him near lottery pick. He’s 2nd round pick at this point in time.

3.). So surprised with Reibe regression. He handled Zona well and just seemed so lost for the last month.

4.) Need another 30% efficiency improvement from Ball.
Smith had 7 assists and 1 TO. He played decent D and really pressured their PG. If you are expecting him to score anything ot hit FTs I don't know what to tell you. He isn't Tarris.

I know with injuries it’s up to the refs’ discretion when or if to stop play. I’m guessing it’s the same for shoes/other court interferences.

He was playing with pure joy. He smiled the whole game. I love that kid. I dont want to hear that we don't have one guy who can win us games. We've had one all season. He's just not a guard (though he still want to be)
Kemba smiled constantly in that Big East/NCAA tourn. runs. Mojo.

Will people please stop saying Braylon isn’t ready for the NBA…people say this every year about our top recruits when they have a stretch of bad games. This isn’t 2002. staying in college to “develop” is not a thing anymore so let’s get over that.
