Furman Postgame Thread

Granted it was against Furman but honestly kinda encouraging that they were able to put up 40 & 42 each half missing the starting PG and with Solo and Braylon missing about a dozen wide open 3s combined. This discouraging part is I have no hope that Solo and Braylon are actually going to start making wide open 3s. Braylon has to keep shooting the wide open ones but he's also needs to force the issue and put the ball on the deck and get into his midrange pull ups and floaters, he's damn near automatic from there but the volume is so low.
This is my overarching feeling.

The offense ran exactly like it was supposed to. They created a ton of wide open looks, they just didn’t go down.

If we shoot our normal percentage we put up 95 points, win by 25+ and no one is batting an eye.

The shots will fall. The fact Tarris didn’t get his first foul till the last minute of the game and our guards are moving without impediments off ball is really all we need.

And no Silas. I’m really not worried about Sunday.

At times I was wondering what’s coming first; a stroke or running to vomit.

1.). It’s obvi that Silas is a must. Could still survive Sunday w/o him - but a must play anything after that. Smith needs to be better.

2.) Mullins was sleeping on D so many times. His shot is such a struggle this month. He has to wake up … fast. No way is he NBA ready. Sucks that “experts” are going to put him near lottery pick. He’s 2nd round pick at this point in time.

3.). So surprised with Reibe regression. He handled Zona well and just seemed so lost for the last month.

4.) Need another 30% efficiency improvement from Ball.
Zona, Illinois and Kansas, three teams with big and/or physical frontcourts. Now it seems like he crumbles vs any physicality and his body language has looked bad for awhile

Want Wilkins if he goes in the portal.
I like him, but i still don't think he's cut out for high major play. We shut him down hard in the 2nd half.

He would be better then Millender or Malachi though, that's for sure.

Something tells me he doesn't want to come here and be Silas's backup. He wants to be the focal point for a team.

That was the dumbest play of the game. Coming out of a timeout up 7. Shot clock turned off. Braylon couldn't hit the broad side of a barn all first half. Reed couldn't be stopped. So what do they draw up? A Mullins three with 10 seconds left that leaves enough time for Furman to hit a three on the other end? I screamed so loud for 30 seconds I think I woke up the entire neighborhood. Just so stupid!

Someone needs to ask Hurley what the plan was there. Because it couldn't have been that.
Dumbest play of the game?? I can’t ever remember a dumber shot. And I’m sure that is not what was drawn up.

This was really good to see, especially as Reibe has struggled.

I have a hard time seeing Stewart hitting the floor again this season outside of garbage time. He's been out too long and Ross has been playing well.

The best play by Furman was when Solo waved his hand 5” from House and they called a three-point shooting foul. That was the worst phantom foul call I’ve seen all year.
I thought we’d get a friendlier whistle in the tourney…nope. We basically lived in the paint posting them up, o rebounds, put backs…none of their players were in foul trouble and we still got outshot at the line.

The officiating was terrible tonight. Saw a few clean blocks by UConn, the phantom foul on Solo on the 3 point shot. The screw up with the goaltending call. Meanwhile Tarris was being held, and nothing.

Mullins had an overall terrible game but made up for it with those back to back steals in the 2H. Our lead had been slipping and that turned the tide
Great D. Proof that defense may be an even bigger issue and asset than knocking down 3's. Let's face it, UConn gave up 71 points to a 15 seed? Crazy. Outside of Ross, I really want to see our defense get better, especially off the bench. Hopefully Dan Hurley gets Reibe and others on the bench, to focus on defense and rebounds. Concentrate on that, and the offense comes with time.

Furman hit a lot of tough shots, and got bailed out a lot by the officials. UConn can player better D, but I thought they were fine there.

Maybe he'd be better than Silas. Why assume projected growth?

I nodded when Hurley chided that Furman were a '15 seed'. I mean, they were, but that team can play some ball.

Hurley does like to take PGs out of the portal that he played against. Newton, Smith and Mahaney (yeah I know he wasn’t really a PG). Demary is an exception it seems.

Or why can't he play with Silas. I still think Ball is much better as a 6th man and not a starter.
I thought you were talking about poaching Wilkins (or a player like him).

At least now we know that bad refereeing is not BE only thing.
I don’t have much to say about the refs but there is one thing I’d like a clarification on. When the Furman player lost his shoe the refs stopped the game so he could put it back on. Do refs do that? I didn’t think they’re supposed to. As a matter of fact Reed lost his shoe earlier in the game and they didn’t stop the game. Or did Furman call a timeout? I was confused about that.
