FIU Post Game Thread

This was a nice win, period. They could’ve folded after losing at Delaware, but 4-2 is what we are.

Having said that, there’s likely not 1 nfl guy playing D for FIU. I want to see Joe play at a high level in Boston.
Joe is not likely an NFL guy so that made it even! I don’t get why people feel obligated to denigrate him after a great performance. He is clearly the best quarterback we have had in many years. He isn’t Tom Brady. He is a solid college quarterback. Jeezz

I can’t help but think there has been dramatic improvement on defense. We were almost always where we needed to be.

The offense is so much better with Joe willing to run. Wasted plays are now 5 yard gains. If Joe had run a few times in our losses we’d be 6-0.
It helped playing a team whose offense was really one dimensional.

Of all 3 coaches today, I’ve been impressed on how Sammie continues to to put our players in position to succeed, even rewarding certain players with play calls and opportunities to make memories on offense
Sammis was a great hire for O Line coach. Now Mora looks like a freaking genius promoting him to OC. The guy has consistently the entire season out the offense in positions to succeed.

WTH. I have never suggested JF will suit up on sundays, I was responding to a note saying he looked like an nfl qb.

When did Saying play at a high level in Boston become denigrating?

He continues to improve as an OC. He seems to really work at his craft.

It was pretty cool to see Fagnano move into second place for UConn D1 for TDs...and then my 13yo son exclaimed, "Dan Orlovsky threw 84 touchdowns". I tried to explain how special he was, especially at that transition time. No one else has even come close.

Joe Fagnano is one of the best QBs we have ever had (wasn't a tall ask, but he's done well)
this is probably true.
that title makes him sound objectively better than he is when you zoom out to CFB overall, but he has done well for us, with the opportunities.

Surely better than any starter ive seen, since joining UConn football fandom (krajewski, zergiotis, phommachanh, ZTurner, shireffs, pindell, Beaudry, etc.) --- again, NOT a tall ask lol

But then again.... I wonder how much of this is the fact we have an actual running game. In my few years of following UConn, i cannot remember a single instance prior to the last couple years, where our run game was an actual threat, thus opening up the pass. IMO Kevin Mensah wasn't scaring opposing DC's the way Cam Edwards might, even though I see he did have respectable seasons. The guys i mentioned above, probably found themselves in tough predictable passing situations more often than Joe has, the last couple years.

regardless, JF is best option we've had.

Just wanted to throw this out there (didn't see it mentioned in the 6 pages but possibly I missed it)...

#3 (at the time) Penn State 34, FIU 0
UConn 51, FIU 10

I get that PSU just lost to unranked UCLA, but they lost by 6 to #6 Oregon, and while I'm not sure if PSU is a top 25 team, nor am I saying UConn is better, it's cool to see similar beatdowns of a common opponent...

If you are rating UConn qb's in the FBS era, 1) Dan O, - who put up numbers with a 50/50 pass run mix, 2) Shireffs who put up numbers with worse talent and tougher competition, 3) Joe F, 4) Tyler Lorenzen who ran more than threw but was a winner, 5) Cody Endres and then ............

But he was ready to flip Sammis this past offseason. Mora tried to hire last Saturday’s UCLA hero, Jerry Neuheisel, as our OC last offseason
“Neuheisel was carried off the field Saturday by a band of grateful Bruins, creating a remarkably familiar scene to 11 years ago, when the then-backup UCLA quarterback led his team to a 20-17 victory over Texas and was similarly hoisted off the AT&T Stadium turf. It was Jim Mora who gave Neuheisel that crucial, upward boost back in 2014, and while the veteran coach spent his Saturday afternoon across the country, leading UConn’s homecoming romp over FIU, the pair were nearly reunited.

Neuheisel had the opportunity to become the UConn offensive coordinator under Mora this past offseason. Ultimately, Neuheisel elected to remain loyal to his alma mater, and the Huskies stayed with 2024 Broyles Award nominee Gordon Sammis as offensive coordinator.”
