We lost to SJU at home. Actually we got bitchslapped by them at home. Do you watch games? You want to penalize providence for losing a road game against a team that punk’d us at home?

Sigh, you missed the point.

My point was road games, and especially close road games against the top teams in the BE are pretty much impossible and even against teams 6-10 it's hard, which is partially because refs do swallow their whistle against the road team in a close game. That is exactly where I am hanging my hat.

My god you all are fantastic on moving the line. SJU blowing out UConn has little to do with it, it wasn't a close game as you said. It doesn't fall into the discussion being had about close road games.

If it was closer I imagine UConn would have gotten a favorable whistle at home to end the game.

You convinced me, Providence does not depend on friendly home officiating at all, which is why they have so many high quality road and neutral wins. What are Providence's high quality road/neutral wins? #85 Villanova? #62 Seton Hall?
Scoreboard loser. Just own your miss. August would but he’s a man. You? Who knows what gender you choose this week.

So UConn losing to St. Johns makes Providence better? Walk me through this logic.

I didn’t say anyone was better. What we are talking about is you picking PC for 8th or 9th place and instead of having the knads to say I missed, you spend EVERY single “Other BE games” thread on this board doing everything you can to say PC is gifted wins.

In short you are the biggest message board loser the Interwebs ever created. It’s not just basketball either. Scoreboard!

Damn August I am trying to erase that game from memory. It was humbling watching Creighton blow out St John's by 30 in Omaha and watching Nova and Seton Hall sweep them as well

I'll say it. I am 100% convinced there is bias against UConn. Some teams wanted us because it was good for the conference. Some didn't because it was bad for them. They know UConn is not in for the long haul. I love being in the conference but I'll shed no tears when we move on.

Soriano is a good, old school center. Doesn't get the ball enough.

Edit: SJU/Depaul game is a fun finish to the night.

1) @X was more of a Hurley tech
2) this was lost in the first half
3) @ Marquette
4) @SHU (and the one I think we should have won. It was poor coaching, bad rebounding) This is the one I agree with to an extent.
5) @ Creighton
6) @ PC

All those @s (aside from SHU) are undefeated at home in BE play.

#2 we disagree. I am of the opinion it was lost in the first half, you disagree. Fine, I don't think we will come to an agreement here.

SHU we agree to an extent, I do agree it was poor coaching but it was also the game UConn played without Hurley and Young, so can't put this on his head.
Should have won @marquette. We were up what 11 or 15 in the first half and then Hurley sat the guys responsible for giving us the lead.

I think a lot of this is spot on. But neither they, nor UConn, has any idea what long-term means. I don’t think the conference realignment has finished, but the opportunity for upward mobility is probably lower than ever. Even the ACC will be ravaged soon. It will be 20 team SEC and B1G, and the rest will make do as minor leagues for them. Being independent in fb might be as good as we get.

Perhaps but:

For this I will make two caveats, top four - highlighted. 1) BE play 2) I am defining three possession wins as close games (if someone wants to argue something else, give the criteria and data for all the games for each of the teams below).

X has played 10 close games. 3-2 away (UConn, SJU, Nova / Depaul, Butler) 5-0 at home (Creighton, Marquette, PC, SHU, Georgetown)

Marquette has played seven close games. 1-2 away (Nova / PC, X), 4-0 (UConn, PC, Nova, Butler) at home

PC has played nine close games. 2-4 away (SHU, Nova / Creighton, Marquette, X, SJU). 3-0 home (Marquette, Creighton, SJU)

Creighton has played six close games. 0-3 away (UConn, X, PC). 3-0 Home (PC, UConn, Nova)

Do I think refs have a hand in those away records? Yes. I do feel the home whistle does exist.

Or are the coaches of those teams suddenly worse on the road in close games than at home?

The players worse?

Point being, UConn has it's issues (X and SJU losses being high on the list) but close road wins are tough to get in the BE.

You aren't very good at predicting things.
Did I miss an update of your original 5-15 Big East prediction for the Friars, or are you just counting on few remembering?

I'm not even bringing it up as a gotcha. It's just that the comment above comes as a surprise unless there is an update, and I'd want to read it if there is one. If you recall, I liked initial post and the responses it generated.

You get a like for pointing out this overlooked but critical fact about the Seton Hall game.

Hurley wasn't even there.

Don’t look for a reply anytime soon. Nelson can’t handle his cage getting rattled a bit. If you refute one of his posts with a legit argument or data, he withers like a dying plant.

Those posters complaining about the refs just missed an incredible college basketball game. The kids on both teams went at it for 2 OTs without any let up. The spread never got more than 4 points for the entire 2nd half until the end of the 2nd OT. The 2 coaches hardly used their benches but the kids were still giving it everything they had right down to the wire. Great game by Creighton on the road after a 1200 mile flight to get there. Great effort by the Providence players fight and scrap to the bitter end,

Some posters watch the refs and miss what the players are doing. Too bad. That game last night was classic Big East basketball. As good as it gets. I’m sorry that some people here missed it.

The only point of my complaints was that if WE were playing it would have been called much differently, at least to us. It was an extremely physical game, and not many fouls. We would have lost at least 3 to fouls. The refs also missed an easy goaltending call.

This kind of complaining his pointless. The refs are what they are and we have to accept that. With all of their imperfections, they’re simply part of the game. Where you go off the rails is when you claim “. . . if WE were playing, it would have been called much differently, at least to us.”

Have you ever come on and posted that the refs favored us and were unfair to the other team?

Anyway, who goes to a basketball game for the purpose of critiquing the refs? I sure don’t.

UConn has the highest ceiling in the Big East. PC has the highest floor. Marquette, Xavier and Creighton are somewhere in the middle. I'd argue Marquette with the next highest floor, and Xavier with the next highest ceiling (with Freemantle).

I think we see how this manifests. UConn can blow out the #1 team in the country, PC can't do that. UConn loses home games to St. Johns, PC isn't going to do that.

That trap was brilliant. So unexpected in that situation.
The trap was great, but unexpected? What should the D do when there are 2 defenders right next to an offensive player who gets the inbounds pass essentially in one of the coffin corners? It would have been more surprising if they didn’t trap him…

Friar J. Always liked you as a poster and you are usually even keeled and intelligent. Don’t stoop to this level. I don’t like PC but you guys have had better seasons than us the last couple of years.

Probably true statement last december. Imho PC is better than Uconn this year. They know how to win tight games which uconn is sadly allergic to for many years now.

With 11 seconds left I would not say that is standard. If they broke that trap quickly it’s all of a sudden 4 or against 3 with the game on the line.

McDermott hasn't exactly impressed me with some of the decisions he's made this year. I believe it was at the end of regulation when there were about 10 seconds in a tied game and he had two timeouts, he didn't use one to draw up a play and Creighton got a questionable shot. Then the trap happened and he didn't call timeout or have his guys ready to do the same in that spot. I also thought he didn't do a good job making adjustments in the first game we played them were Sanogo kept posting up down low and he had no answer for it.

we hack more than a patient in a pneumonia ward.

nice chant...not.

watching all this hacking this season makes me want to hock up a lougey, and fire it at the tube.

I solicited an update, specifically because I was uncertain, knew I could be off, and wanted to know more. I even addressed my intent, offering awareness that it might be a look alike for a gotcha.

Please assist me in locating this 'bump." If not, I'm left regarding your incomplete response as overly dramatic. This would boost @CheshireCat's, which I found otherwise too conclusive to endorse.

This one' s actually pretty easy to clarify. I'm just asking for the benefit of your sharing the head start you seem to be saying you have.

Truly, thanks in advance, no less than my acknowledging in advance that I sought to avoid apologies for potentially jumping the gun by fixing on something out-of-date and amended.

Successful closure on the specifics would honor my respectful request and place Cheshire Cat's comment in fuller context. Who would object to that?

I didnt mind the no timeout under 10. Some coaches think that aids the Defense too, it wasn't a bad play by Nembhard he is quick, obviously looking for a foul attacking the rim, he got there, just better defense by carter.
