2025 Recruiting: Eric Reibe Official Visit

Ball was starting as our 3rd G when castle was out to begin last season so he has to be the favorite to start over Ross as a junior for now. But part of the reason i like the threesome of Lewis/Mullins/Reibe (or Adams/Greer instead of Mullins) is that they arent OADs so we wouldnt be recruiting over any returning upperclassmen. We also clearly need depth at those 3 positions (PG/SG/C).

Nowell/Lewis
Mahaney/Mullins
Ball/Ross
Stew/Abe
Reed/Reibe

Lewis and Mullins are both possible OAD. My gut says 2-year players though unless Mullins goes bananas from 3 in college.

Was with some Creighton people yesterday and they acted pretty confident in getting Reibe

I think should still take Creighton seriously, especially if they have access to big funding. begging donors(heiders) is easier if there's a reibe at the end of the rainbow

I also think Nico Bundalo has tremendous upside. Some clips I saw, he moved very well with the ball, nice post moves, versatile game.

My only real concern with Bundalo's game is that he is a 4/5 tweener. He's going to be slower than AK guarding 4s, but is a little undersized to be playing the 5. Our staff must have a plan to bring him into the fold, but it will require a shift.

the locked on UConn guest today from stockrisers basically said Kansas isn't as serious as Creighton and UConn has a good chance. basically my assessment. he did disclose that kalkbrenner is paid like a two way contract guy so that money should go to reibe if he does go there.

the other angle is that reibe wants to go to business school and Omaha has decent business school with some buffett universe connections they could pitch.

Somehow reminds me of Kalkbrenner, and I don’t like his game, and doesn’t remind me of SANOGO, whom I love. I’m a little biased towards old school centers, and I still can’t wrap my head around 7’4 guys shooting 3’s.

Totally irrational evaluation process I’ll be the first to admit. That being said, if Reibe committed tomorrow, es war bin SEHR GUT! His skills are really impressive, and, well he is 7’ tall.
Well we are a fast dying group of dinosaurs. No longer is the college game populated with those "so called " aircraft carriers, as the late Al McGuire used to call the big men in the middle. We don't see a Patrick Ewing, Hakeem, Kent Benson, or any other of the large big men from the 80s 90s and early 21st century. We all know how the game has changed dramatically. Even Donovan was a sort of throwback to those big men of those days. Was he real throwback?
No, he had the attributes of the new generation of big men. My thoughts are that we try to get a big man with the Clingan abilities, and expand on them.

I’m talking about the coaches going to visit the kid every other week

Ok, if I'm a coach and I want a player I would go into certified stalker mode. When every program in the country wants a player, the vibe with a coach can be the turning point (positively or negatively.) I mean, we saw with KO, that he just apparently stopped communicating with prospective recruits. If our staff rolls three deep to see a player as often as possible, that's a serious flex.

Some or even a lot of players like that. I know secondhand through very reliable sources a major recruit that was turned off by “stalker mode” and took a school off his list because of it. Coaches really have to get to know the individual kid to see if that approach works or not. I’d say the majority like to be courted and heavily sought after. But some don’t want constant visits, calls, and texts.

Oh, I get that. And part of being a good recruiter is getting that vibe. Obviously the multiple in-home's and pop-ins we're doing illustrate that some of these kids really dig that attention and "love."

I think the fairly well-known Ray Allen story is that he was put off that Pitino, on their visit, didn't make him a big deal at a dinner with the players and he was put-off by that. I think Pitino basically said he would red carpet night one and then the let the recruit vibe with players night two. Ray didn't like that.

gotta look at the content of the meetings. stalkers don't tend to add a lot even if they are allowed to talk for months.

For sure, I was using hyperbole when using the stalker term. Would've been best just to say frequent, meaningful attention.

As I remember that story, we was "put off" because he was eating dinner at Pitino's restaurant, and Pitino was at a table eating and didn't even come over and say hello. Ray joked to another recruit "if Coach Calhoun was here, he'd be bringing over our food to the table!" The fact that he was at Kentucky and talking to another recruit about Jim Calhoun makes me smile to this day.

I want this kid. Can we cross the Reibe-conn?
