Early Coaching Hotseat Edition

I don’t think she is on the hot seat. But what about Kate Paye?

Surely, next season needs to be an improvement?
It's been TWO years. Whatever happened to giving someone a chance to figure it out?

I just gave her next year in my hypothetical. That’s three years. Missing the tournament three years in a row at Stanford is acceptable? Seriously? I know if this happened at UConn with Geno’s replacement, I would want the coach out.

We've now had a bit of a lull. Thought we'd have more changes.

Comments on a few:
Season Done:
- Florida State: 10-21 was a pretty horrendous sesason for Brook Wyckoff. Allie Kubek has to be wondering what she was drinking when she agreed to transfer there. She spent much of her time on the bench at the end of the season. Emma Risch played similar minutes to her stint at ND. They were 24-9 the year before which may buy Wyckoff, an FSU grad, a year to right the ship.
But that wasn't the FSU I was used to seeing out there this year.
- Penn State. It's beyond me that this discussion is even being held.

Waiting:
- Nebraska. Huh? Made the NCAA tourney last two seasons and, according to Creme, are one of the last 4 teams to get in this year.
Have I missed something? 18-12 is a bit of a drop-off but this strikes me as a transition year. Plus, Williams is a Cornhusker and remarkably has been there 10 years.
- Texas A&M: My thought on this one has always been reverse engineering. I thought Coach Taylor was in a great place in Georgia and following a unique one-two punch of Gary Blair/Vic Schaefer (as right hand man) wasn't easy. Money isn't everything.

Cnf Tourney:
- Kansas State lost some of its best players ever going into this year and are now sitting at 16-16, following a three-pt. destruction of Cincy.
Given that K State just fired their men's coach, I can't see them firing both coaches this year, particularly since Jeff Mittie was over .600 at KSU going into this season and seems to have a solid rep during his 12+ years in Manhattan.

I don't think Paye's seat is anywhere near warm at Stanford right now. Given all the factors--the Stanford way, Paye's history at Stanford, what was/wasn't in the cupboard when VanDerVeer retired, the change to the ACC, the NIL landscape at Stanford, transfer portal, etc.--I see Stanford having patience with Paye and the rebuild.

Tara left her little and it’s almost impossible to get transfers into Stanford.

Not a surprise. It doesn't behoove coaches at schools like Fairfield -- who have had success -- to go to a place like Rutgers at this time. You can probably say the same for the upper echelon of Ivy League teams: Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Harvard.

But it does show you how far Rutgers has fallen. Coaches control most things -- recruiting, culture, teaching of players -- but they can't control institutional support. If you're not taking an interview then it means you think institutional support is so bad that not even John Wooden could succeed there.

Purdue to make it 4 in the BIG? 2–10 to finish the year might make it more likely. Few signs of hope.
