I would argue that the youth didn't know who Tina Thompson was. She approached HS recruiting as if she didn't have to sell herself. It worked in Texas (where she mostly played and the AAU coaches knew who she was) but didn't work in the DMV.

Also, Mox is a poor HS recruiter herself. She didn't recruit well at Missouri State (used Kellie Harper's leftovers) or UVA outside of the Kymora Johnson-Olivia McGhee class.

Don't know much about Griffith's HS recruiting, but I will say this. Meg Griffith is the coach that you hire before you hire a Tina Thompson. I just don't think they can afford to go down that path anyore.

Are you saying Columbia doesn't accept any students as transfers? Or they don't accept grad transfers?
Griffith has taken undergrad transfers, such as Jada Patrick (from Duke). But is the "grad transfer" stipulation based on the "four years" and no more? What if a player has graduated from his/her school in three, which is pretty commonplace?

Dillon, I thought you said or implied that Griffith has taken graduate transfers. It's my understanding that the general rule in all Ivy schools is that their sports teams are only for undergraduates, and hence they don't take graduate student transfers even if they have remaining athletic eligibility.

Griffith certainly has concocted and developed an effective mix of U.S. high school recruits, international recruits, and some undergraduate transfers.

Courtney Banghart went from Princeton to UNC. With the right staff, she has been able to recruit top ranked players.

Banghart had the good fortune to get offered by a blue blood men's basketball school that also has a strong history of success in women's basketball. Lots of rabid basketball fans and involved alums with money.

Northwestern is on the other end of the scale, and I'm afraid it could be a graveyard for Berube.

Virginia is not North Carolina historically, but a lot better than Northwestern.

As I understand and have observed, the Ivy League thinks an athlete gets four years on campus. Injuries, covid don't matter: four and one.

However, what I'm asking is if a player graduates in three years, like Olivia Miles. would she be eligible for that fourth year at an Ivy? After all, they have a fourth year left? Or is the graduation a no-no?

It really doesn't matter. If I implied or wrote that, mea culpa: I meant undergrad transfers. (I was in three places over spring break and writing half of these while packing or unpacking from a fun but hectic road trip!). Back home now for the first official day of the portal and free agency.
