Can we talk about how terrible of a punch it was?

When you have a clear path and a defenseless opponent, throwing a superman punch is idiotic. It takes away 75% of ypur power.

The people saying "that punch could have killed someone!!" have no idea what they're looking at. Dude is 230lbs
and throws a softer punch than I threw as a 140lb 14 year old competing in golden gloves. I've heaten punches harder than that hundreds of times in my life.

Sometimes I forget how terrible untrained folks are at fighting.

As a Draymond loyalist, I want to believe that this isn’t what it looks like. I want to believe he was provoked by something Poole said, and that grown men are capable of occasionally policing themselves with mild violence when the moment calls for it.

But the more these incidents pile up, he just comes off as someone with a temper problem - a problem that’s gone unchecked for too long and been mistaken for competitive fire or whatever else.

He should take this moment as an opportunity to seek help before he finds himself in even hotter water. This type of unprovoked assault is not normal and would not have been, in any time or any place (when Stephen Jackson is saying it, you should listen). This is a Draymond problem that will become a Warriors problem - if it isn’t already - if clear boundaries are not drawn moving forward.

Both are wrong. Draymond is more wrong. The days of being able to hit anyone for anything than protecting yourself from real harm are over. There’s no debating it. Doesn’t matter is it’s sports or office of construction site.

Well, Draymond was protecting himself. Poole pushed him first.

As bad as the punch was, Draymond immediately running to fellow Klutch repped media member Chris Haynes and having him spin that Poole was behaving poorly(which was vehemently shot down by Kerr/Meyers/Steph/Iggy) during camp might even be worse. I honestly don't know how Poole could play with a dude like this. Still can't believe Haynes has left the tweet up when everyone can see how see-thru it is.

Ah so you're a goofy troll, no need for this to go further

You haven't brought up any part of the altercation supporting your point. So, you are right in writing there is no need to go further. You either haven't seen the video or are intentionally trying to misrepresent what was on it so it fits your preconceived viewpoint.

Poole got smacked and dropped like a rag doll. Yes, a shorter more controlled punch with properly positioned feet generates more power. However, the average thug in the street playing the knockout game is throwing these kind of punches and hurting people badly. Poole wasn’t expecting it and got drilled. Not sure if he was knocked out, there is some conflicting info on that. Regardless, lack of efficiency is no excuse for Draymond.

If Poole was knocked out by that, he has the softest chin in America.

No. It's the exact way it happened. Have you not seen the video of the altercation?
No, pursuing someone and then punching them isn’t self-defense. I really don’t give a crap one way or the other about the whole thing, but “victimizing” the aggressor to justify the aggression is just intellectually dishonest.

The amount of bad takes in this thread is incredible. The BY produces some of the most galaxy brain takes on fairly straight forward situation.

Comparing pro athletes to normal office jobs, hilarious. Saying that it was a sucker punch, hilarious. Asking if what would happen if the coach punched the equipment manager, hilarious. Saying ignoring the fact that talking crazy escalates to pushing a punch is eventually going to be thrown, hilarious.

But as I said somewhere else none of these takes are unexpected. However someone people here did get it right. Draymond used excessive force? Probably but Poole should have expected to get punched as soon as he pushed draymond…you consider people’s prior history when you deal with them if you’re a smart person…

Your take is wrong, as usual. It was reasonable for Poole to push him when he got in his face. The punch was bull shitt. He doesn’t get a pass bc he’s a bball player. He was wrong and he’s lucky not to get arrested fined benched and sued.

Lol @ this, why should Poole expect to get falcon punched by his own teammate in practice after that light shove? Draymond doesn't even go around punching opposing players when he gets involved in shoving and pushing matches on the regular in games, and he certainly didn't respond with a punch when Tristan Thompson slapped him in public. Boneyarders who live in these wonderbread towns suddenly pretending they know how how fighting works are comedy. Why are you guys acting like y'all are going around your neighborhood Whole Foods and Trader Joes knocking people out and taking their shoes and socks?

I don't know. Maybe if you're on the streets of NYC you should expect a punch. But from a teammate during practice just because you tried to shove someone away from your face? I don't think anyone expects to receive a punch like that from a teammate during practice. Way out of line.

There are so many stupid takes in this thread. Just shut this thread down.

You conveniently left out details of Poole initiating the contact with push and in the same sentence use the phrase "intellectually dishonest". Really. You did that. Thanks for defining the word self-own.

Did you not watch the video embedded in this thread describing the MJ and Steve Kerr fight? Maybe even go the extra step and watch the Last Dance episode where Kerr is on record talking about him and MJ throwing punches in practice?

How dishonest to yourself do you have to be to believe that one person yelling at another may lead to a push and a push may lead to a punch?

I hear ya Chin but from what I see the initiation was Green by actually getting right in his face, more than likely spitting on him. Just can’t expect anyone not to get pushed away when they come at you like that. This is all on the punk Green.

So because it's happened before, like 30 years ago no less, makes it something a player should expect? And acceptable? I'm sure there are skirmishes in practice a lot. But 99.9999% of the time it doesn't lead to something like that. I'm not even sure where you're coming from with this.
