As far as the money, false, sean. UConn had to return 12,000 tickets at a multi million dollar loss. But, before you go off an that money loss tangent, when bowl revenues were divided up UConn & Oklahoma made millions. The big difference is Okla. made more money because the B-12 reimbursed them for their losses. The cheap, Providence based BE, didn't reimburse UConn. BTW, the BE was the only major conference not to reimburse their schools.
As far as getting clobbered by Okla. yes, but they are light years ahead of a school like UConn who has only been playing D-1 ball for 8 years (at that time.) BTW Cincinati, the previous year, was undefeated and ranked in the top 5 at seasons end. The score in their BCS game was even more lopsided than the UC-OK game in favor of Cincy's opponent. Other than WV, few BE schools are equipped to go up against the Alabama's, Texas', Ohio State's, or Oklahoma's of the world. Few major conference programs are. That doesn't mean UConn, and others of our playing calibre, can't compete in this arena.
UConn won at Notre Dame 3 short years ago. UConn has 4 mid level bowl victories. Plus, UConn beat South Carolina by a large margin in a bowl game 3 short years ago in SEC territory.
So, true we got clobbered by Okla., but with wins over S. Car., ND, and several over Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse and a win over WV, means we ain't chopped liver, either.
