Yes - fast forward to 19:40

You have to wonder how much this helps us, if at all given that Castle will probably be gone by the time he joins us.

I don't think any of this in new information but.....

COOPER FLAGG, F, MONTVERDE (FLA.) ACADEMY

Currently ranked: No. 1

Who is in the mix: Duke, Kansas, UConn and others.

Latest intel: Cooper Flagg made big headlines when he reclassified from 2025 and was ranked as the No. 1 player in the class of 2024. Shortly before that, he made headlines when he took an unofficial to Duke.

The general school of thought is that Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils have an early lead for the 6-foot-8 forward from Maine, and there’s not any behind-the-scenes chatter to contradict that. However, the Blue Devils are not a stone cold lock for Flagg and Kansas and UConn have emerged as very viable competitors. In fact, Flagg is going to visit each of them along with Duke during the fall. While Flagg hasn't announced the visit dates just yet, sources have indicated that the visit to Storrs is likely to happen in late September with Kansas and Duke visits happening during the month of October. This one is going to be a lot of fun to watch.

I like the fact that he’s visiting UConn first, in late September. Not too cold yet leaves are just starting to turn, can meet both the men’s and the women’s team. Actually all the athletic teams. Not that it would cut any mustard but it can’t hurt either.

Sure but I hope we don’t expect a commit. He’s making all three of these visits.

Maybe he's a dog lover and they can arrange some time with Jonathan. Jonathan's a lot more lovable than a Jayhawk or a Blue Devil.

Doesnt matter how much a kid wants to go to his dream school if he really connects with a coach and it just feels right he will go to that school 9/10 times. I think HUrley can charm the heck out of him and the program, well Uconn sells itself.

I mean, he’s right. We don’t normally compete for players of this caliber.
Guys like this are Duke, Kentucky, Kansas usually. Money talks! He may never play college hoops but you never know.

I can’t officially comment but I always wondered how people who are seriously religious feel about playing for a school who uses the devil as a mascot.

I will say that despite being agnostic, I am still somehow able to see satans hand in Dukes basketball success.

Imagine going to or rooting for a Methodist university and rooting for a devil

Why do you think Providence has as good a chance as anyone with any recruit they want? Friars, umm hello?

The worst is the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. I mascot that's a demonic minister in the bible thumping South??? The mascot is beyond creepy too.

Both Wake and Duke were initially religious schools (Duke was Methodist, Wake was Baptist) who have been somewhat aligned since each was formed a couple decades before the Civil War. The story I was told was that Duke took the Blue Devils nickname from a WWI military unit. Wake then created theirs as a slight takeoff of Blue Devils (Demon vs Devil).

It could all be BS but for the most part I trust the source (a Wake grad I worked with nearly four decades ago).

Per a KU Insider:

Cooper Flagg | PF | #1 Overall Recruit for 2024
32.png

  • Kansas is in this recruitment for real. Flagg is generally considered a Duke lean, but KU isn’t backing off. He’s the Jayhawks’ top target for 2024, and I’m Hearing genuine belief that they’re in this thing.
  • Flagg is a legitimate star and will bring extraordinary hype wherever he goes.
  • There’s thought that KU is a better fit from a basketball perspective for the PF. Bill Self is commanding serious respect here.
  • I view this recruitment as KU vs. Duke, and I think it’s a toss-up right now, which I wouldn’t have said two weeks ago. I’ll have more to come.
