That is all true, but Louisville's metro population is much smaller than most of those places. I think Milwaukee and New Orleans are about the same size. And the metro size is usually more of an indicator of the city's influence on the country and the world. You can't tell me that Louisville has as much going for it as Boston and Atlanta, which are both top 10 media markets in the country. Louisville has bourbon and horse racing. I'll give them that.

Plus another thing to think about with a city's population as compared to its metro area population is the land area of the city. Boston and Louisville population might be around the same size but Boston's area is 90 square miles and Louisville's is 341. And Boston's metro population is 4 times Louisville's. So your point is moot.

And most of this has nothing to do with the original subject. So it's probably time to drop the discussion. So about that Flagg visit.... :)
Of course it doesn't have the influence Boston and Atlanta have, my point was about how I don't believe most people around the country know much about Louisville despite it's size. They don't have any pro teams like similarly sized cities and cities it's larger than. You don't have to be a sports fan to know and associate cities with their sports teams. I do think a lot of people know about the city off of it's city owned and city named University and sports (basketball) is a major reason for that.

It's amazing that people think college basketball or sports in general are a popular as they are - I've seen the internal research reports from some large sports networks, there's not as many sports fans as you think, but people that are sports fans are more avid which leads to the perception that sports fan are every where. The general population doesn't think about Louisville because of U of L and certainly nor because of U of L basketball, but believe what you want.

Louisville is one of the worst cities I have ever visited. Up there with Des Moines and Reno.

Anyways back to the topic at hand...
Really, I think Louisville is pretty underrated. I could possibly see it have a boom like Nashville in the future. Reno is a total dump.

Love this board - Louisville 790K Population

Did you mean to respond to me? I couldn't care less about the population of Louisville. I was commenting on this board's ability to seamlessly pivot from one inane disagreement to another. It's great.

Never been to Joplin, Missouri I guess? It's one giant, super-flat truckstop with every possible fast food restaurant and hotel/motel chain as far as the eye can see. Oh, and it's in tornado alley.

I just did not feel safe at all walking around and it seemed pretty dumpy with not much going on. Also not a big bourbon person so sure took a tour of Evan Williams but in between that and what I assume is Louisville basketball for a local its a sad place.

I will also add Houston on average is a pretty awful city as litigated plenty during the Final Four but its so damn big that it as least has some redeemable qualities.

I travel a lot for work so I drop in and out of cities quickly so a lot of my experiences around the country are based on only a couple days so I could very easily miss something that could improve my view of a place.

A lot of that is because we have posters on here who have to comment on everything and always think they're right and need to show it. I'm guilty of contributing to the latter! Lol

I've only been to Louisville a few times but I did not enjoy it at all. No traffic though which is nice

Ah, you need to travel more. There are much, much worse cities than Louisville. (I'm with you on Reno though.)
Is Stockton still just barely better than summering on Mars?

I've never had the pleasure but, based on reputation, it's a place I'm not dying to visit. I once spent a week in San Bernardino trying a case - I think that gets my vote for worst city in CA that I've visited.

Yeah, I mean I dont think Louisville is world class or anything, but Ive had a good time there a couple times including having the top 3 Mexican meal I ever ate. It's not horrible, Im not looking to move there but there is some cool stuff on the river and elsewhere. It aint Gary Indiana.

You're worried about me when you couldn't even accurately quote a three-word post?

You said you wouldn't call it a college town. I replied "Cool story bro" because I didn't call it a college town either.

You haven't once addressed my reasoning for my opinion, only my self-awareness and the incorrect assertion that i called it a college town.

So yeah, cool story bro.
I'm sorry, I screwed up. I'm not as conversant with the cool kid lingo these days.

I'll be more accurate: you wrote, "Cool story, Bro."

There was nothing else in your response. It was just "Cool story Bro."

Nothing else there.

You want me to respond to that?

Every time we go to Louisville we stay downtown at the Seelbach. The university actually sends buses to pick people up because the school is 2 or 3 miles away. At night, people head to suburban strip malls roads for entertainment. At no point in my stays there did I feel the university was at the center of anything. It always felt as though the school was out of the way from both the entertainment strips and downtown.

I'll start a thread in the travel section to clean this one back up.

About that Cooper Flagg visit, will his mom come?

Let's hope both parents. Hurley seems to do well with parents of recruits.
Was thinking that she played college ball at Maine, so may have some favorable views of Geno and the WBB team.

I might've gone to the same restaurant.
