That is all true, but Louisville's metro population is much smaller than most of those places. I think Milwaukee and New Orleans are about the same size. And the metro size is usually more of an indicator of the city's influence on the country and the world. You can't tell me that Louisville has as much going for it as Boston and Atlanta, which are both top 10 media markets in the country. Louisville has bourbon and horse racing. I'll give them that.
Plus another thing to think about with a city's population as compared to its metro area population is the land area of the city. Boston and Louisville population might be around the same size but Boston's area is 90 square miles and Louisville's is 341. And Boston's metro population is 4 times Louisville's. So your point is moot.
