okay so now I'm going to play the parent card. How many other players have kids? Do we think that is a factor at all -- her desire/need to spend (days off) with her daughter? Or is all this "alleged" difficult personality on-the-court behavior? Unlike a star guard who gets Technical fouls right and left? Would love to know all the facts but sounds like we may never know them and the bottom line is that it is ridiculous to omit her talent.

To put those claims to rest, there have also been teammates that have come forward and said they love being her teammate, so that doesn't fly.
Oh really? So you discount what her US National teammates had to say about her? Ok. About what I'd expect from a Tenn fan. All I'm saying is that there are numerous reports coming out that point to Candace's actions as the reason she was left off the team. It's time for people to stop blaming Geno and start looking at the real source of the problem.

Actually, the bottom line is that we are not privy to exactly what factors went into the committee's decision. Some are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt (the Ben Franklin quote on human infallibility comes to mind) and some are not.

It's certainly a puzzling decision.

I can't access the article and don't what to misinterpret something I can't read because I don't have context, but if by "personality conflict" Bone means a player is oppositional then so be it. The tension that creates is certainly going to have an impact on the coaching staff and the rest of the team. That would certainly be a valid reason for keeping any player off the team, no matter how great. Having said that, once again an individual (Bone) is placing the blame on Geno when in fact Parker has not laid the blame squarely on his shoulders although it might be implied. People need to get over themselves. we all face disappointments in life and there are never any guarantees. There is no privilege; sometimes the things we want the most have to be earned. Sometimes that means putting your ego aside and accepting authority.
Exactly what I was about to write.

I still haven't seen these reports or are the teammates calling you up to tell you?

The only information that should matter is CP basketball ability now-TODAY!, anything else (including team chemistry) is highly speculative and should be ignored. We are not talking about a newbie to the national team here-CP has been on or around the national team since 2006 and USA basketball since 2004. That is a full decade of being mostly a starter on the National team.
Actually Parker has played in 25 games as a member of the NT and has started a total of three games. The three games she started were in the 2012 Olympics, where three players Catchings, Bird and Taurasi were the only ones to start all games, Moore started five, Charles started six, and Jones started two and Parker the other three. And since her introduction to the NT team she has only played in 25 of the 40 games played in the WC or Olympics.

I'm easy to get along with. Just agree with me.
I've noticed that a long time ago. However, I ask: When are you going to take issue with these Tenn visitors who think Geno is the second coming of Satan (maybe the 40th coming)?????

Agreed. And with all the this has stirred up, they must have known that would be coming, they still chose to take the hits and keep her off the team. Might be time for Parker to do a self examination.
Doubt that's gonna happen.

Anyway, for 2-3 days I was feeling very sympathetic. But, whatever her reason for posting the vid, it has helped me get over that. Now I don't have to waste any more energy feeling sorry for her. Now it's just, "Glad you shared your, "I'll always have this moment" memory, thanks for the reminder, and enjoy your time off this summer."

What is really funny to me is that Bone has absolutely no clue what she is talking about or the recent history of USA basketball -
Geno didn't enjoy the last WC because of Parker?!!! That would be the Parker who wasn't playing on that team or traveling with that team, but nursing herself back to health in Southern California - Talk about a big personality - she could ruin Geno's day from 5,000 miles away!
As for 'personalities' - I would say DT and Angel and probably BG have the biggest personalities on the USA team and sort of dwarf Candace's. Now what she probably meant to say was 'attitude' and on that score I leave my comments to myself.

And yeah, Mike - Bone better build on her first good year as a pro to make CT fan's forget her dissing CT heroes. Goes with the territory of being a public figure as 'New York values' Mr. Cruz found out a few weeks ago.

Parker is a great player, and I am sure a worthy selection for the team....Yet, she was not chosen..... Two things come to mind....

One is the example of this happening before (being seemingly slighted)..... Coaches in international competitions are eager to staff their teams with those who are going to be a most comfortable fit.... Perhaps this is the thing with Candace I do not know..... It is said that Geno does not have heavy influence on the selection of roster, and maybe that is or is not believable. But I do remember the past and on the mens side, both Bobby Knight and Dean Smith having Indiana and UNC players on their international teams where other seemingly more deserving players were left on the sidelines....

The other thought is that.... having seen this over a lifetime of corporate life .... is that when applying for a job (which this ease ntially is).... the most quailfied person very often misses out on the position for whatever reason..... the hiring manager feels that the person they eventually hired would be a better fit for the organization..... maybe this is the case here....

Don't know, and I don't want to speculate.....

i can't help thinking about a post about other people with personality/bad behaviors. Think of Griner's personal issues. They matter less than any "chemistry" with CP? The fish stew smells rotten. And no, I am not a Tennessee fan. I am a WBB fan who wants our best team out there, and I, like many others, feel that CP was well ahead of many others. Furthermore, if the goal is to add youth, their top priority should have been to add it in the guard position.
You will find that Boneyarder have no issue with Parkers ability to play--or for most even having her on the USA team is not an issue.
She has talent--superb talent.
But the implication that Geno (alone) was responsible for her not playing on the Olympic team does not sit well with us.
An aside comment: Personality in interpersonel relationshiips is a must, more so on teams--most can get along with anyone who is talented who is less abrasive and coached as easily as the rest of the team--disruptions because of personality just dont work well when you are trying, with very limited time, to create a team that is expected to win a lot.

As someone not atuned to the current short cuts in writing in blogs or posting on instagram--please spell out fully what you intended to convey with F-Candace or F-Uconn. Does that mean the both got a grade of F or Fine Candace , Fine Uconn? or Fundamentally great Canda ce or Uconn?, I can think of a hundred other F words that may apply but most don't make sense--so please spell it out!!!
For your future reference

Has Parker asked why she isn't on the team?

Actually Parker has played in 25 games as a member of the NT and has started a total of three games. Just an additional thought on this - players like Parker, Whalen, McCoughtry, and Augustus who have generally not been starters on the NT tend to put up better numbers than they might if they were starting and playing against the other team's fresh starters. This is true for college teams, and professional teams of both genders, but is especially true with the USA national team because one of it's greatest strengths is the depth of talent the USA can place on the team compared to every other National team it faces.

Nicely put - and I'll elaborate on one thing having interviewed and hired a lot of people during my working life - a resume is very much like a stat sheet - it gives you some benchmark facts about an applicant, but it doesn't begin to encompass the whole person and hiring someone based solely on the resume is about as dumb as you could get.

Word out in twitter world the vote was 3-2 to keep Parker off the team. I'm presuming that's what Thompson is saying when one person kept Parker off team.

Who is saying this? Where is this information coming from? That's just as speculative as all the reasons being bandied about for why Parker was cut.

I've noticed that a long time ago. However, I ask: When are you going to take issue with these Tenn visitors who think Geno is the second coming of Satan (maybe the 40th coming)?????

I've always thought Geno is the Antichrist, and the root of all evil. He commands the Evil Empire, so why wouldn't he be the Antichrist? I think we should check his head for the backwards 6's. That's why he's always so obsessed with keeping his hair nicely combed back. He has to keep the 6's hidden.

Could not disagree more. If the best 5 players in the WNBA are all centers, are they your starters? What if they are all guards?

Nope, you put together the best team. For whatever reason that did not include Parker this go round. Maybe it will in four years.

Excuse me, but one thing I haven't read about this entire business is that USA Basketball picked Geno to coach the team, twice now. It was obviously a success the first time. It would be difficult for anyone to mount a plausible argument that he's not the absolute best person on the planet for this job.

So maybe he does influence the selection of the players on the team. I'm sure he probably does. And that's why they hired him to do the job in the first place. They're going to listen to what he has to say on that topic. They've chosen him for his ability as a coach and to analyze what he thinks the best possible team would be to win the gold. End of story.

If that means that personalities, attitudes, commitment, hairs on the back of his neck, or angels dancing on the head of pins enter into his recommendations, so be it. Whether he arrives at his conclusions objectively, subjectively, or some combination of both, they trust him to make those calls. He's the coach, period.

Bone: "I don't mean to be disrespectful to USA Basketball. I'm talking about a problem in our game. If I'm a better basketball player than X, Y or Z, that's all that should matter."

"If I am a better basketball player..."

So what does this rather large label include? Might it include being able to be coached? Might it include having a TEAM orientation, on and off the court? Might it include being someone who the coaches and teammates can be reasonably certain won't turn diva at the most crucial moment?

You can't be a "better basketball player" if there is any doubt about these criteria.

We get why Tennessee fans are upset. We get it. I just don't know what people expect the Boneyard to do about it.

It is done...won't be changed...Usa will win gold and life will move on...so should we

I think everyone can agree that talent wise, Candace Parker should have made the team. She's an outstanding player. Therefore, it must be something else (attitude, teamwork, cooperation, willingness to be a role player, etc) that kept her off the team. Is this a subjective reason? Yes it is. But that is why there is the coaching staff and the selection committee. I do think Geno has a weighed opinion during the selection. But to think Geno can go in and say "I don't like Candace, she shouldn't be on the team" and then have the selection committee say, "okay, Geno. No Candace." is in my opinion, absurd. The committee knew this was going to be bad publicly. After all it is CP. However, whatever the reason for keeping her off, it had to be a valid enough reason that 3-5 adults on the selection committee chose to keep her off. Multiple people must have witnessed the reason.

To say that the only thing that matters is talent when putting together the USA Team, is crazy, especially coming from UCONN fans. Do we not love Kelly Faris? How many times have we heard Geno say, players need to be willing to play their role in order for us to win? Too many to count.

USA Basketball probably should have addressed the question more directly, but they are trying to "keep the peace." So now it's turned to speculation. Well don't worry, after CP posted that video, we all know Geno will open his mouth about it now. It may not be for years to come, but eventually the truth will come out.

Just the opposite. Just announce the team and move on. You'll never placate everyone, don't even give the appearance of trying to do so.
You're absolutely right. They made the decision and they're confident in it. There is not point to go player by player on why or why not. Great point!

The '3-2' vote idea is a little misleading - the committee didn't go through the list of pool players and vote on each one independently - that kind of procedure could create a mess of a team.

The selection came down to Candace and some other player and the vote was 2 for Candace and 3 for that other player - no idea which player was the other player but suspect it was one of:
Tina, EDD, or Catchings because they are the players that most closely 'compare; to what Candace brings to the team - Fowles and Griner are locked into the post position, Stewart is the designated rookie, and the other 6 are all wing/guards not Candace's strength. I suspect the vote on those three head to head was probably
5-0 for Catchings - heart and soul of the team for the past 10 years
4-1 for Charles - yeah, Australia!
3-2 for EDD - perimeter shooting.

This will be debated forever I am sure..... but it is normal with the naming of these international competition rosters to have some unsettling happenings..... Barkley left off the 84 Olympic team.... and the the 92 Dream Team.... who was the last guy on? Christian Laettner newly minted Duke grad.....

I am always OK with debate .... and others who think person x, y or z should be on team..... What I turn away from is how certain UConn players are NOT worthy of being named.... I saw Devereaux Peters put in her 2 cents.... saying Breanna is not worthy..... more so than Candace or Nneka..... now I love both Nneka and CP, and love their games .... but please do not tell me that the most transformational player in the history of WCBB..... is not deserving.....

In an age when WCBB is at its most competitive..... and the players are the greatest...... (is the game better and does it have better players now, or did it fare better when Delta State, Old Dominion, La Tech, and Immaculata were at the top of the heap??)...... how are you going to say that the person who led her team to 4 straight national championships is not worthy of selection.....

Nneka and Candace are brilliant players, and may they have continued success.....

Some of these tweets, posts etc are really coming from anger. Very stupid and idiotic. Genos boss is the committee. The committee makes the decision and . I will continue to say its most likely personal and out of respect for CP those in charge haven't gone public with it yet. So lets change things around. What did CP do or didn't do that has caused her to get kicked off the team????? Lets start there and start picking that apart. We all agree she should be on the team. Bottom line CP knows what happened and isn't coming forward yet either. The Tenn fans are upset and once again its Genos fault. I think when everybody finds out what happened they will see it was CPs fault. JMO.

not sure if i read that right but if you said Barkley was lefty off the '92 dream that is incorrect...in fact he may have play the best of his career on that team...Laettner was chosen over Shaq...Isiah Thomas is the one left off because Jordan and Pippen did not want him on the team
