Who can't forget the boneyard animal stories...

Turkey Vultures
Deepster running over the baby rabbit with his lawnmower...

I figure GOUCONN had a heart attack after Brittany Spears went crazy figuring she was one step away from a porno.

Ran into JeffK on a political website a few years back. He said he reached the point where he only had so much internet time, and his career revolved more around politics, so he segued away from sports messageboards.

I came over from the Courant board and followed McD's as well. I had become an out-of-stater in 1998, so I needed the internet for my husky fix. When conference realignment hit summer of 2003, my work productivity dropped to a new low. My favorite memory was the Maryland Mole, who I believe had Cuse heading to the ACC with UM and BC until Virginia gov intervened.

I want to send thanks out to JeffK. In the late 90's I was trying to engage in reasonable discourse on an AOL UConn bulletin board that was getting overrun with idiotic SJU fans when he suggested I check out The Boneyard. One try and I never went back to the AOL board. I think I was supermaup or cmaup back then and used to post a lot more. I played in the first BYC with Dogdeacon who is still around and JeffG, not sure what happened to him. It was indeed an entertaining bunch.

I remember JeffG being a big time computer geek. I think he got a job where Nuzzi works/worked.

I always remember your Shea Ralph should start threads.

I started posting when it was clear Miami, VTech and BCU were set to leave, mostly just to vent. I basically don't watch pro sports and hand the remote control over to my wife when the buzzer sounds at the end of the national title game, and don't get it back until college football starts. It's just UConn and college sports for me. CR has sucked a lot of life out of what should be a great distraction from the real world.

I think the Boneyard has become more civil to be honest. The debates raging on the board today are like blowing kisses compared to the venom in threads about Taliek Brown or fights between the Edsall Critics and Apologists. I also think a season like the one the basketball team is having is unifying for the fanbase. It is hard not to love this team.

I feel like this board, or at least my participation, is at a crossroads, much like UConn's athletic program. It is fun, but the future is more uncertain than it has ever been before, and the potential outcomes much more dire than just another ill-timed Taliek turnover to lose a game. It makes me sad whenever I think about the fact that something we all, and so many others, love so much could be in the situation in which Uconn finds itself. A distraction is not supposed to be depressing.

I've been lurking hard since at least 2001.....fan since 1989....my senior year in high school...staples high school...always like following the recruiting stuff (now conference realignment seems just as important)....ones that stick out the most for some reason were the Rashad and Ike Diougu (sp?) recruitments...although Rudy Gay's was pretty big too and sticks....anyone remember Michael LeBlanc and Anrtic Klaiber....rolling down memory lane now....before the internent thare was only the USA Today and Magazines for us sports junkies to get much of this info...peace out....nice thread.

Back in the day JeffK and I went to a few different hoops events. From New London summer league, to I want to say Southern Connecticut to St. Thomas More. He was a good guy and knew his stuff. Back then I posted under Big Bill

I don't remember the poster but I believe "fort the ead!" was in response to a huge Ben Gordon 3 pointer. Don't remember the game either.
It was Okafor (Okafor for the lead - Somehow it came out on my keyboard as Okafor - fort the ead) - I believe that my daughter had spilled a soda on my keyboard earlier that week and several keys kept sticking.

Didn't someone have an issue with rodents chewing through a dishwasher hose and flooding their kitchen during a game? I seem to remember that in a chat room at one point.

Yes, that would be me. It was a shame I had to watch the game. The kitchen would have ended up in better shape otherwise. Those mice led us to victory that day, so it was all worth it in the end.

I understand completely and, somehow, we'll muddle through without you.

ah, c'mon that's the first I've heard about a sticky keyboard...and blaming it on your daughter? Shameful, sir, just shameful.

We actually had a decent Dukie visitor back in the day too - I think his name was BluBones with a dancing skeleton for an avatar. He did his best to make Dook more tolerable - it was a tough battle for the guy, though. He was like Sisyphus. He'd make progress, and then Duhon or Redick would join the program, and the rock would roll back down the hill again.

Dogfather was on the Dog Team. So were Dogbreath I think, Dogmother, Chuck whose dog name I don't recall, Doghouse maybe?. Team Nuzzi was Nuz, Me, Cuz, and Pat (Before CTO lured her away with fancy colored coordinated golf shirts) and later McD.

I was a Dog who was on the Gold Bond Ball Baggers team, with GOUCONN21, trest, and bOOG. In a later manifestation, this team had gars44 and cwh sitting in after the other GBBB's wimped out.

I won't forget the time, as an April Fool's joke, someone put a post up that Charlie V had committed to play for us. A great many posters fell for that one.

Until ..... I think a few months later, it came true!

How about handles for which you'll open a thread with an uninteresting subject line?

For me:
  1. Fishy--sorry everyone else, but if Fishy left the board, I probably would stop coming by. I see some talk of his decline on this thread...if true, he's playing down to the competition
  2. Deepster--the master of the mojo, Deepster stirs the pot. Frequently wrong but never in doubt, Deepster's like the inverse-canary in the mine shaft--when you see his name, you know the thread is going to be good.
  3. Lark--sometimes pedantic, but I always agreed with Lark. Lark goes to the Boneyard HoF as the poster with best perspective.
  4. Memory is a bit fuzzier, but I think I remember always enjoying x and BadDog posts.
This is long - if anyone clicks "Quote" to reply to it, I will punch you in the throat.

LOL I totally glossed over that before quoting Fishy's post earlier in the thread. Had no idea why he promised me a throat punch.

One more comment and then I'll STFU.
For me it is particularly gratifying and tribute to all the Boneyarders kept the flame alive back in 1996. As mentioned, The Courant, one of the oldest publishers in the US, wanted to dictate and control how this new found digital reader base UCONN Fans would engage with their publication. We didn't like it, we told them to take their bulletin board and shove it. We went out and created our own meeting place. In retrospect, given the pride and "can-do" attitude of UONN husky fans everywhere, this shouldn't have surprise me. But back then, to turn our backs on a major publishers and tell them "no thanks" we don't need you is rather remarkable. Thanks to the passion and invovement of Temery, Fishy et al, on this board who put in a lot of long hours we have a great history to call our own. We were "scoial media" before anyone uttereed those words. Just sayin'...continue...I love the memories....

One memory from back at the time.: I went to the UCONN vs Miss.State NCAA game in Kentucky. That was a very painful loss. I left Rupp thinking our chances for NCAA Championship would not be coming around any time soon. Just devastated, ....I ran into Big Red outside Rupp. I told him I was convinced it will be a looong time we find ourseleves that close again. He looked at me, and just as assurred and calm as can be told me not to worry we would be back soon...very soon. Sure enough here we are today with one of the most successful programs in the country over the last 20 years...I will always remember Big Red's words that day....."we'll be back".....thanks for memories people....we're a little rough around the edges at times, but no one has a better, more loyal and knowledgeable fan base in the country....no one!

That was USF. Mrs Deep and I started the heckling. We got him to look at us. Poor bastard. The USF fans to our right kinda laughed, too.
One of the few football games I ever attended before moving away. After the Boneyard tailgate I will never forget how loud and merciless Mrs Deep was. It didn't let up until we all froze.

Sacred Rolling Rocks
Wing Sacrifices
Swami's chair
The one and only "original boneyard trial" of Dogfather for his treachery (they never had the same comedic value after that)
all great stuff. So many classic posts and great chat room activity from back then

Hmm. And now she's the former Mrs Deep.... ;)

Too bad the board's ultimate "moron" of the board went totally soft on us. Doggydaddy was classic with his hairtrigger temper...especially when he had his balls busted. How many of you were called morons? And how many times?
