Was with him for the Georgetown game at XL. He posts on the Friars board a lot these days. The BY is like reading an emotional high school girl’s diary mixed with advanced analytics.
Agree with the descriptor of the BY but it was always this way. I could tell he was beginning to reach a limit over this forum's incessant desire to destroy anything and everything KO. I felt it was a precipitating reason for 8893's reason to end his relationship here. The final straw for ADub was when a significant minority of individuals in this forum expressed a preference to leave the BE. He's happier with a fanbase whose only allegiance is to the BE and who aren't nearly as spoiled, arrogant and obnoxious as we frequently demonstrate.

Did you ask him about the conclusion of his sister in law's wedding. He led us to believe it was the worst part of that situation but left us hanging?

So is he their version of FriarJ? Or has he gone fully native and become a PC fan?

I suspect its someone who is doing this for the first time and is working through being new in the process, but I thought given those expectations they did a really good job. I hope they continue to get better and follow through with the other 10 schools. I also hope they improve the sound engineering.

The voice narration was excellent.

I thought it was pretty compelling but it went about 20 min too long when it got into the infidelity stuff..which I thought was kind of BS too. You can crush the guy for a lot in the doc but having some 19 year old stufent and some chain wearing greaseball comment on Colleys marriage? Come on now.

Lol. "This dude is like a scum bag. He is a scum bag, he is a scum bag. I've called him Hitler and I don't think it's inappropriate. He's basketball Hitler."

Surprised you haven’t deleted this yet

Unfortunately the last 20 minutes cheapened the whole thing IMO

It sounds like it's the reason he left. This was basically a 30 for 30 on Ed Cooley with bad production values. The reason for him leaving has to be a part of the story.

I was hoping it would be more about the program and their history instead of an Ed Cooley doc. Spend more time on Bad News Barnes and Ernie, talk more about how Jason White Chocolate Williams and Tim Duncan should've been playing together. Talk about the Croshere, Derrick Brown, Shammgod, Garces team.

Didn’t even catch this part. Kind of weird how they decided to focus so much energy into slandering Cooley and ignoring other parts of Providence’s history. It’s not a good start.

Like I wouldn’t want them focusing almost an hour of our doc on the end of the Ollie era or Calhoun NCAA investigations. That just doesn’t seem right.

I have no idea if it's true, but to allow people to comment on it like it's a fact while admitting they actually don't know, is pretty poor form.

And how about Gomes? Maybe they'll cover that in the UConn episode :)

Interesting. I was wondering "what happened to that August West guy that always posted here?".

Very true about the Boneyard, but yet I still keep coming back here because I can get UConn centric coverage and links to articles other people have found.

Only way we’d know is if he admitted it (not going to happen) or if someone else involved breaks an NDA (also not going to happen) there have been lots of confirmations to this. Too many to believe they’ve all been uninformed. Some by insiders behind paywalls

It's common knowledge. It's all unseemly but I don't know how you tell the Ed Cooley story and why he left without giving the reason why he left.

That's one of the reasons why I think the Big East Films story on the Providence basketball program shouldn't be all about Ed Cooley.

What even is this Big East Films thing on each program? I highly doubt the Big East is producing this.

I actually haven’t finished it yet, so that’s disappointing to hear.

If you're going to put rumors like that in the doc, you have to do some journalism or have an actual journalist interviewed willing to state something definitive. You can't just flash some random tweets by random people and then have a random guy saying "oh yeah it's all over town."

Why? This is some rinky dink production. This isn't the Washington Post and Deep Throat.

a) I can't we don't have unlimited editing on this board.
b) I find this guy's over the top commentary on Cooley funny. If it is anyway offensive to you to see this guy's quotes on this board, I won't be offended if you avert your eyes.

"Common knowledge" that's a pretty bold claim and nobody as far as I know has gone on record and officially said that. I mean the doc featured Twitter screen shots and the guy being interviewed was "it was on SCOUT message board!".

After watching it, I wouldn't be surprised if the Big East issues a cease and desist to have them remove the name and logo from their page and giving Fanta a spanking for allowing himself to be a part of it.

Would definitely be interested in your opinion after finishing. Post back if you can.

The notion of reporters actually verifying the things they put into print seems to be an anachronism these days. That said, It surprised me as well, I initially thought they were a part of the big east and I was surprised that they would essentially kneecap Cooley, given that he is still a coach in the league. That said, the sections that I watched seemed to be careful to distinguish between fact and rumor. No one came right out and said that the Cooley affair was a fact but they all said that they had heard the rumor. That's a thin and dangerous line to tread, I would think, but it felt to me like somebody was deliberately treading it.

I have no idea what Big East Films is. This was a cr@ppy production that looked like something we could've made back in AV class. I have trouble believing The Big East Conference or Fox Sports has anything to do with this.

0.00% chance it's affiliated with the BE.

And yet they have yet to publicly disavow it. Makes me wonder if it's hit the radar yet.

Possibly they are unaware or hoping it just flies under the radar. 10k views thus far on YouTube.

I'm not sure whether I'm more impressed or amazed that anybody here thinks that this is anything other than a combination of a sustained put-on and a jilted lover's poison pen.

People more often than not aren't at their most emotionally mature best when they get dumped. And few people harness their hurt & fury to sustain telling their story. Here the style is so familiar that many here are criticizing it as though it's real while at the same time saying (more or less), "I can't believe this is real," and, "Can they really do that?," and , "Wow, I'll bet a bunch of people aren't happy with this."

It's not "Spinal Tap," but it's a good job.

Sophomoric? Bitter? Sometimes tasteless? Imperfect in production values and uneven in casting? Sure.
And so what?

Who here really thinks that there are 10 more that are going to be made?

This one got completed & released days before Cooley's return to Providence this weekend. That in itself is impressive.

Those who think Ed was perfectly okay for chasing the 'better opportunity' might consider this hit job as part of the price he paid. In other words, why should he have it both ways?

Does going that hard about the situation affect how the rest of the docs come out and if they do?

If it does, it’s pretty selfish. Especially when again, they could’ve spent some of that time talking about some of the better parts of Providence history.

Giving very much so bitter ex. I hope the docs make it to ours because it does have a lot of potential if they focus on the right things.

Let me try to rephrase your question:

Because Ed Cooley switched jobs as a basketball coach, the trade off should be that people (who by their own admission don't know for certain) are allowed to make accusations about his personal life and marriage?

That doesn't seem a bit demented to you?

If someone went on video and had the balls to say I 100% know for a fact x happened which is why he left, I could at least respect it.

Citing message boards, twitter, a friend of a friend, is chicken ish.

You want to talk? Put your name on it.

Is the right thing Kevin Ollie? Because based on this first one, color me concerned.

They all did put their name and face out there.

Georgetown was allowed to hire Ed Cooley.

Ed Cooley was allowed to accept the job.

Many Providence fans were allowed to be angry about that.

Some of those partisans would appear to have made a bitter-edged mockumentary about Providence basketball that frames its story around Ed Cooley, and includes speculation & innuendo regarding Cooley's departure that to those fans felt abrupt, painful, and deceitful.

Those who watch the film are allowed to like or dislike, trust or distrust, approve or disapprove of any or all of the production quality, the story, the story's editorial slant & emphasis, the narrative's sourcing, and so on.

ESPN's ownership, management, and legal team are allowed to pursue any grievances they have with the product, its presentation, its distribution, its authenticity, its veracity, etc., and seek available remedies and damages if they believe it's in their shareholders' interests to do so.

In the alternative, on the off chance that this is genuine ESPN product, the same list can defend RSPN's interests.

Ed Cooley, Georgetown University, The Big East Conference, or any other party with any similar objections could act to protect itself from damage.

You're allowed to have your opinions on aspects that you've found bothersome, and others are allowed to agree or disagree with them, or have their own opinions.

The entire Cooley-to-Georgetown story only peripherally involves me (Conference rival drama) and barely affects me (not my team), so I don't need to give the matter much more than cursory attention. From what I saw & heard last spring, Cooley seems to have behaved with compromised integrity; it might titilate me or others to hear or say that what he did was "scummy;" and, as a general matter, rumors of marital infidelity are eternally the stuff of tabloid gossip, which almost always has appeal when attached to public figures.

I'm not lobbying for others to adopt my lower level depth of feeling or more blase point of view, and Içm disinclined to give much energy toward weighing whether or not things are demented, unworthy of respect, or chicken ish. You seem to feel differently. I'm ok with that

Right. Please don’t spend an hour talking about the rise and fall of the Ollie era with random boneyarders speaking on how his drinking habits caused his tenure to end.

The entire source of PC fans' anger is this, that he demonstrated clearly and definitively that PC is only a stepping stone.
Wrong, you are the Energizer Bunny of Wrong. Congrats!
