Do you think any of the 8 Big East football schools in 2004 would be in major conferences today if they just gave up and blamed it on the league they were in? The NBE of 2004 worked out just fine for everyone but USF and UConn. Some of the reasons it didn't work out for UConn was bad timing, some of that was bad luck. If would have been 16 of 16 teams screwed if all of those schools fans and Administrations just bitched and moaned non-stop about how unfair life was and waited around for the invitation from a bigger league to come in.

There are a lot of times that I feel like a big chunk of the UConn fanbase just reeks of quitter and victimhood, and I can't be the only one that feels this way.

UConn didn't "give up," we took a gamble by leaving the AAC and joining the Big East. This gamble payed off big time and we have just had some of the best years in our history with a bright future ahead of us. UConn has obviously been in talks with the B12 so the P4 want isn't "wishful thinking". I don't think our B12 bid died and lots of B12 figures on social media don't think so either

It's not wrong to admit the Big East isn't UConn's home. We aren't getting financially compensated the way we should as a large state school vs our conference peers. I think UConn is ultimately worthy of the P4 and I'm excited to see what's in store for us. These talks take time

Saying the fanbase reeks of "quitter" is crazy when you're the one calling for us to essentially sideline our Athletic Dept. future just to ride the Big East wave that is coming to a massive halt sooner than you think. If you want us to be Seton Hall/Providence/St Johns etc so bad why don't you just be fans of those teams? That is not our destiny

Football, also, wont Finish in last place. It just wont.

Mora has a team to 9 wins in his third year with no conference. He seems to like it here, isn't hung up on football nostalgia and committmenr/portal and knows how to build a roster year over year as an nfl coach.

I think great recruiters of high school kids will be emphasized and development and preparing your players for future success (nfl or portal) is the goal.

No future seasons are what I'm talkin' about and where the pro model of college sports is going...#facts. $$$... And I like the BE too, just don't see it being able to keep up in any way with the P-4, who will literally be buying players/talent the BE can't.

The future of any athletic department is primarily dictated through their football program. We can like it or we can hate it, but we have to accept it. UConn football isn't going away. In fact, in Dave Benedict's own words, it's time to "double down".

The Big East is a short-term home. We know it. They know it. Schools like Georgetown and Villanova will never invest in big time football (one could argue they are struggling to invest in basketball too).

The very moment that either the Big12 or ACC realize the immense value we bring, we're gone...

Just to add on to this, North Carolina, a program undoubtedly larger than ours but with a similar athletic stature, said that they hired Bill Belichick not because they wanted to, but because they had to in the current athletics landscape

At least the AAC supports women’s college sports to a respectable degree. I’m just waiting for the day when St John’s announces they will no longer support women’s college athletics. Only way they continue supporting women’s programs is if Pitino donates half his salary to the athletic dept.:rolleyes:

I respect the fact that at least you have the balls to say you want us back in the AAC, unlike the passive aggressive nonsense most of the other Big East Haters do.
 
My dream for UConn is to join the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as the Yukon Huskies and become bitter rivals with Alaska. We can then airlift the entirety of Storrs to Whitehorse

Some do but it's certainly not a struggle for Uconn and Benedict with 2 hoops coaches already at about $8.3 mil and $3.74 mil against a $6-7 mil Big East TV deal. ;)

It’s been on a downward slide for a while now, with the gradient steepening by the month. Have you been to a Seton Hall - Providence or St John’s game lately? There’s empty seats all over the place. Student participation is laughable.

And in fact my idea had been to merge the NBE and WCC basketball only leagues as a way to bring Gonzaga into the fold and extend the reach of the conference for media purposes with an East and West division. Now Gonzaga is out so that plan probably doesn’t make sense any longer unless someone else emerges from that league.
So tell me which of the recent mergers you have seen that were basketball onlies into football leagues. You imply they have occurred. Other than Gonzaga to the P12 I haven’t seen any.
