Those are what Italians prefer. Not tourists. I promise you it is a common pizza in Italy.

Maybe I'm getting the name of it wrong. All I know is that I've seen with my own eyes all over Italy. I lived in Padova for over a year and I have seen literally ALL of Italy, every single corner of it, I've seen much more than the vast majority of Italians. The Italians I traveled with every weekend took the opportunity to see their country with me. It was always the same guy who ordered the hot dog and french fries pizza and he did it all over Italy.

Heh, reminds me of one summer my family I went to Italy to spend a month travelling up and down the Western coast visiting relatives. We brought lobsters (can't do that now) and HFS, my cousin in Roma sucked all the meat out of every nook and cranny out of that lobster like a man possessed. But yeah, the seafood we had in Calabria was just heaven.

There's this place right by the train station. It's hard to pronounce the name, but sort of reminds me of a car company. 🙄

My son and I shared a pizza for dinner at John's Pizzeria, just west of Times Square after a day at the USS Intrepid. It was very good.

In my experience, pizza is a quick casual lunch food at a trattoria in Italy. I prefer ristorantes for dinner.

We'd bring back loads of cheese, olives, and jarred fish from the markets of Amantea...putting that fish on fresh homemade bread along with the cheese and olive...I'm freaking drooling over here.

Regarding other stupid stuff, this isn't just limited to us. Japanese TV had a program, that stopped airing over the last year or so, where they showed the beagle army at Narita International airport. Usually they would find people from China and to a lesser extent other southeast Asian countries bringing in whole (dead of course) chickens, pig hocks, and other banned meats. Mind you, this wasn't from like 10-30 years ago, but shidiots doing this as recently as 1-2 years ago. It was so entertaining watching the beagles sniff out the culprits and watch them squirm as they try to explain why they should keep their ill-gotten goods.
 
Has anybody tried Chrissy's Pizza in Brooklyn? I somehow found it on Instagram and the pizzas look amazing but I have not been to the city.
 
A family friend who was born and raised in Bari, (he's in his mid '70's now for context) came to the US in his early 20's and owned restaurants at different times in the Bronx, Westchester & Fairfield Counties. Every July he would go with his family to Italy for basically the entire month, and for years would return with items that were difficult to get here.

In 2002 (the first trip post 9/11) while returning, he had a full thigh of prosciutto in a carry-on bag (prior to that trip, he had often brought vack a wheel of cheese, a leg of prosciutto, something large). When the bag went through the x-ray scanner, they thought it was a human body part, the guards at the airport grabbed him, pinned him against a wall and held him at gunpoint as they opened the bag. They confiscated his prosciutto (it had to have been worth ~$1,000 at that time) and sent him on his way.

He wasn't very pleased when I cracked up listening to the story.

Chrissy's or Krispy's? The videos for Krispy are derivative at this point, but they are still oddly captivating.

I looked at that list 3x and while I saw all the Sally's locations, I did not see Pepe's.

It's been 25 years, but I used to live within walking distance of Letizia's, and while it was a fine pie for Norwalk in 1998, I wouldn't mention it in the same breath as Pepe's.

Thanks for posting that!!! We were in Fort Lauderdale last December for a cruise and just took in local seafood. Being fully calabrese, I gotta put this spot on our itinerary for later this year when we go back to Fort Lauderdale for another cruise.
