Anyone ever have Michael Johns in Bloomfield? Was out there on business and grabbed a slice and I was pleasantly surprised.
Haven’t tried that yet but it’s just another example of how remarkably good pizza is in this state. I moved back 4 years ago and am amazed by how many good spots there are. Maybe not all New Haven standard, but literally hundreds of solid pizza places.Anyone ever have Michael Johns in Bloomfield? Are you stoned?Geez ya think with all the square stone they could have fit them better.some joints are 2in thick some ,3/4in.thats why we have chip hammers.blue stone is not mortared in,no matching joints.sorry but, looks like a pile of rubble

So we finally tried this place this past weekend. I had high hopes because all the hallmarks were there: Foxon Park sodas, good reviews, really friendly owner. Unfortunately the pizza did not deliver on this promise--it scored a unanimous "meh" from our family.Anyone been to Farina on Route 80 in Guilford? Someone was raving to me about it yesterday, claiming very it has very good New Haven style apizza, as well as good pasta and other entrees. I've never heard anything else about it before, despite driving by it often.

The good news is that our pizza order was an afterthought because the entrees over-delivered: eggplant parm tasted classic and very homemade, and linguini with white clam sauce was chock-full of fresh, tasty clams (in the shell) with just the right amount of garlic. Will definitely go back for the entrees, but will skip the pizza in the future.
I love the Buffalo Chicken. Nice kick to it. It's only a town over and yet I never make my way there. If anyone is ever looking for great pizza in Middletown, the Illiano’s location on Washington St does an excellent job. It’s NY style in that it offers over 10 varieties of slices, for a complete pie, the buffalo chicken is outstanding. Also, the Sicilian is great as well.

light mozz, well done

Hard to believe you're posting this.Fox Business News just reported that the Debra Messinger 'Black List' includes Pepe. Hard to believe that idiot's list included something like Pepe, or that it made national news.
I would imagine that it would not be a good idea for protesters to mess around there.
Feel free to attach this to Pizza thread, but sounds serious.
Did a pizza crawl today.
Zuppardi’s - White clam and bacon 9.4
Modern - Pepperoni and mushroom 7.4
BAR - Mashed potato and bacon 9.1
Roseland - Broccoli rabe and sausage 9.2
Really off day at Modern. Crust was soft and doughy. No abeetz at all.
Bar surprised me the most. I am not a fan of potato pizzas and theirs is next level. Very very light.
Zuppardi’s clam pie? I’m still tasting garlic. In a delicious way. A+ pie.
This shows the limitations of the "one bite" metric. You would never get a cheese pizza at Bar, and more importantly you would never, ever get it to go. The key to their pie is the impossible thinness of the crust, but it has to be eaten there. The second it hits a to go box it degrades like 30%. So if you went by Portnoy's ratings alone you probably would have skipped Bar, but as you saw it's definitely worth the stop.Bar surprised me the most. Next time try the mashed potato with bacon, and make it a red pie. I started out getting it as a white pie but a trusted waiter told me to try it red. That was probably more than 20 years ago and I've had it that way ever since.
The Bar salad also rocks.
I wonder if Zupp's frozen pizzas hold up?
Mark Iacono seems to really like Zuppardi's clam pie. I wonder if Zupp's frozen pizzas hold up?

It’s really good their clam pie. It’s also crazy expensiveI'm telling you. That may have been the best pizza I've ever had. I can't stop thinking how good it was.
