Timing…

Nice to see the Sistsers posted here. Saw this a few days ago. They really get around. Easily of the better foodie accounts in the northeast. They’re from CT, three sisters live in NY, and one moved to Boston about a year ago, so they have some serious content from NJ up through Maine

They dip their pizza in ranch dressing. That's a disgrace to CT. That's what people in the Midwest do with their Pizza Hut.

Finally got to Roseland. Did mozzarella with light garlic and the clams casino pizza.

The mozz was excellent, and I say that as a guy who doesn’t get fired up for a plain pizza. This was worth the trip, and got my mom remembering Paul’s Pizza from Bridgeport back in the 50s and 60s. She said Roseland is the closest thing she’s tasted to it in 50 years, and she’ll be bringing her sister and cousin to next week so they can walk down memory lane together.

The clams casino was so overloaded they clearly changed the thickness and integrity of the crust. I’m glad we tried it (and I’m gonna happily eat the leftovers tonight) but next time we come back we’ll probably try the white clam instead of clams casino.

In comparison to the big 3 in New Haven, I think it was better than Sally’s and on par with Modern, tho Pepe’s is still the king.

Roseland rocks. The light garlic is the best plain mozz I've had and I hit all the big names pretty often. Glad you loved it.

Backdoor

My wife went there last year because she was in Stuart visiting a friend who lives on Hutchinson Island. She says it was really good. And she grew up on New Haven pizza with frequent trips to Pepe's and Sally's. So I guess it's legit.

Anyone ever had pizza from this place in Glendale, CA? Legit? Aggressive move opening one in New Haven.

Ozzy's Apizza, which opened Friday at East Rock Market on Nicoll Street, is the second location for founder Chris Wallace, who initially started the business out of his home kitchen in Los Angeles in 2021. Wallace now owns and operates Ozzy's in Glendale, California, and was inspired to open an East Coast location so he could see his Connecticut-based family more often, he said.

Alternate access:

Apizza by way of Los Angeles: Ozzy's Apizza, opened by CT natives, opens in New Haven

Ozzy’s and others mentioned here: Slices of Home

Went to Sally’s in Wethersfield this afternoon. I’ve got to say their pizza is amazing! Had a stinger, 1/2 cheese 1/2 pepperoni, and potato rosemary. Each one was fantastic. Might be my favorite now.

Was it really crowded? Hard to get in?

How about those prices? I don't know why they think they need to charge 20% more than Pepe's. Can you order large pizzas there? You can't online for take out. Strange. I had a large at the Sally's in Woburn, MA recently.

We did get a reservation for 4 but there were walk ins. We got large pizzas. They are more expensive but I think it’s worth it great pies. You can call in takeout. They are in my top 3 along with Zupps and Pepe’s. Trying Fouco Tuesday.

Sally's Norwalk (not that it matters to me, its easily my least favorite of the Big 3) delayed again until 2025 Norwalk Sally's Apizza Restaurant Opening Delayed To 2025 Pretty sure it was the first expansion location announced way back in 2019. I've got not clue how SoNo Collection is even staying open, but know they've filed suit to reduce their 2023 revaluation assessment by half...

Try Stretches on Main St. in Newington. Been written up numerous times in Courant and even NY Times. Compared to Pepe's in one article I read.
Stretches has been closed for years. The chef owner needed knee surgery and I don’t think he had medical insurance. It was unfortunate because the guy did make a very good pie. I think he learned his craft at First & Last Tavern in Hartford.
